When we pray and give alms to the poor, we allow God's mercy to be poured into their hearts. Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you also can give God's mercy to your neighbor who is hungry, hopeless, alone and frightened.

Have you ever wondered what the role of the deacon is in the Catholic Church? Have you ever felt the "pull" to investigate the life of a deacon? If you have had any of these experiences or just wanted to talk to someone about the life of a deacon, call Deacon Jim at St. Bridget's Rectory and he will be glad to answer your ques-tions. We have had several diaconate ("deacon") vocations from our collaborative. Maybe you are being called to be the next one. Deacon Jim's number is 781-878-0900 ex 247

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative, Jesus tells the parable of the proud Pharisee who prayed from his self-importance and the tax collector who prayed humbly. Jesus teaches his disciples to pray in humility before God. If anyone would be a model for prayer, one would think it would be the Pharisee who knows the law and follows it. He was living an upright life, he was doing everything he claimed to be doing. But he was not praying; he was giving God an inventory of his good deeds. Jesus turns things upside-down in this parable. Jesus gives us the tax collector as a model for prayer. Tax collectors were collaborators with the Roman authorities. The system allowed tax collectors to line their own pockets by charging more than the actual taxes. But, in this parable, Jesus offers the humility of the tax collector as a model for the prayer of a disciple. The parable reminds us that when we pray, we must remember our need for God in our lives. Remember what we say at Mass??? “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” If we are too full of ourselves, like the Pharisee, there is little room for God's grace to work in us. Congratulations to Deacon Paul Breadmore, a parishioner of St. Bridget’s, who was Ordained to the Permanent Diaconate last weekend. Two Buses with almost 80 people from our two parishes traveled to the Cathedral of the Holy Cross to be part of Paul’s Ordination. What a GREAT turnout! Deacon Paul served as Deacon for the first time last Sunday at the 12 Noon Mass at St. Bridget’s. A wonderful reception took place in the Parish Hall after the Mass. Deacon Paul wishes to THANK all for the support, the prayers. and well-wishes he has received. It was a beautiful spiritual experience for Deacon Paul and he offers gratitude to you and the Lord who has called him to this ministry. Please continue to support and encourage him as he serves us as Deacon in our Collaborative. Welcome Deacon Paul. Ad Multos Annos.

Deacon Paul with his wife Anne and their children Austin and Kylie after the Ordination at the Cathedral. Parish Nursing: A New Ministry! Our Parish Nurses are looking forward to pioneering a health and wellness ministry for our Collaborative. The nurses will work to assess the health and wellness needs of the parishioners and have plans to offer educational and health promotion programs based on these needs. If you haven’t done so yet, please fill out the Survey Sheet found in your bulletin and return it as soon as possible. Please participate in the survey as everyone’s input is very important in the planning. Let us pray for each other. God bless, Father Mahoney
