GIVING TREES AT HOLY GHOST

TO HELP THE NEEDY FAMILIES OF OUR PARISH

Each year the St. Vincent de Paul Society places Giving Trees in the upper and lower churches with gift suggestions for those who are in need of our help, so that we can provide Christmas gifts for the needy. It’s easy to do-just take a tag from the tree after Mass, purchase a gift, and return it (unwrapped, please) the following week. The tags are labeled for boys or girls, and age levels, so choose the one you would like to help. If you’d like to provide a gift for youngsters in the 12-15 age group and don’t quite know what to get, you might want to purchase a gift card to Walmart, Target or other store of your choice. You can drop the gift card in the St. Vincent collection box at the rear of the church, and the cards will be added to our distribution list in time for Christmas. Thank you in advance for your unfailing generosity to our brothers and sisters in need.

Coffee and Donuts at St. Bridget There will be coffee and donuts after the 9AM Mass at St. Bridget on November 22nd in the school and 29th in the hall. Come and enjoy!

St. Bridget School News Community Service The 5th Grade and 1st Grade students are doing their part to save the environment by recycling printer cartridges. Last year proceeds from this community service project were donated to the Whitman Food Pantry. If you would like to donate printer cartridges you can drop them off at the Saint Bridget School or in the bin at the back of the church. Grade 7 To focus on writing during the Literacy Month, grade 7 students are writing an autobiographical essay about a challenge they have faced or an experience with a person that caused a change in their lives. Students also plan to read Thanksgiving stories to students in grade 3 on Wednesday, November 25. PBJ PBJ stands for Project-Based Journey. It’s a special class taken once a week in which students work together on eight-week projects set up by their teachers. Art work from the students in the Grades 6,7, and 8 PBJ group will be displayed at the Abington Library for the month of November. Stop by to see their work! Box Tops for Education™ program Saint Bridget's school participates in the Box Tops for Education™ program, a school earnings program, which has helped America's schools earn over $715 million since 1996. All year long we collect Box Tops to help us buy what our school needs most. Each Box Top is worth 10¢ for the school. When stu-dents, families, schools and communities work together to collect Box Tops and send them in, the money adds up fast. Last year, our school earned $1,500.00. We can earn even more cash this school year with your help. This year we have set a goal of $1000.00. A collection box is located at the back of the church or can be dropped off at the School Office. Please visit www.BTFE.com to learn more about the Box Tops for Education™ program, including a full list of participat-ing products. Thank you in advance for your support! Feel free to contact the school office: [email protected] if you have any questions about our school or program. OPEN ENROLLMENT Saint Bridget School is open for enrollment in all grades throughout the year. We welcome the opportuni-ty to meet you and your child/children, show you our school, and answer any questions you may have about our school. If you would like to visit please call (781) 878-8482 for an appointment.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative, This weekend we celebrate The Solemnity Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Today’s feast of Christ the King is a great gift to the Church from Pope Pius XI in 1925. This feast was given even greater importance by Pope St. John XXIII in 1960, when he transferred it to the final Sunday of the liturgical year. What could be more fitting than to close each liturgical year by celebrating the feast of Christ the King which, in a wonderful way, ties together the present time, and eternity. One day, Christ will return in glory, in the glory of his exalted kingship, and he will reign forever as our God, and as our King. What joy this truth should bring to us each year when we celebrate this great Solemnity. We might ask ourselves these questions today: Is Jesus my personal king? And do I live my life reflecting His kingship and His kingdom? We have concluded our First Collaborative Ministry Fair. It was a huge success! Many people came from both parishes wanting to learn what Ministries are being offered and how they can help. People were amazed at how many Ministries are present in our Collaborative. Someone mentioned to me the “Quilting Ministry” doubled its size from all the people who signed up for it over the last two weekends. That speaks volumes to us about our Collaborative: The Quilts are a combination of many fabrics to make a beautiful mosaic for all the world to see. We have so many parishioners who have signed up to make our “Collaborative Mosaic” even more beautiful than what it already was for all to see and give glory to God. If you were not able to come, please feel free to pick up a Ministry Directory at the front doors of either Church or at either Rectory. The Ministry Directory includes all the ministries available in our Collaborative with their descriptions and contact information to get involved. Jesus wants us to actively live our faith and not be just spectators. Thanksgiving is THIS WEEK. Beginning this Sunday, there will be four (4) different “Thanksgiving Services” offered during the week in Abington and Whitman. Two (2) of these Services are Ecumenical. The Christian Churches in each town are offering a Thanksgiving Service. Abington’s Ecumenical Service will be this Sunday evening (Nov. 22) at 6:30 p.m. at the Baptist Church on the corner of Routes 139 and 58. Whitman’s Ecumenical Service will be on Tuesday evening (Nov. 24) at 7:00 p.m. at the UCC Church across the street from Holy Ghost Rectory. Holy Ghost Parish will offer a Thanksgiving Mass on Wednesday evening (Nov. 25) at 7:00 p.m.

St. Bridget’s will offer a Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday morning (Nov. 26 – Thanksgiving Morning) at 9:00 a.m. I will be participating in all 4 of the Services. I encourage every parishioner to attend at least one of them, if not more. I am a firm believer that gratefulness is the heart of all prayer. Please come and offer your gratitude to the Lord at one or more of these Services. Next Sunday, November 29th at 3:00 p.m., the Bishop Cheverus Award medals will be conferred upon approximately 100 people at the Cathedral by Cardinal Seán. Bishop Cheverus was Boston’s first Bishop and led the diocese from 1808 until his return to France in 1824. He died in 1836 as the Archbishop of Bordeaux. The medal recipients -- who include laypeople, religious and deacons -- are chosen for their service to the Church and God’s people within the Archdiocese of Boston. The recipients are people who have served the parish well over an extended period of time and have done so in a quiet, unassuming and, perhaps, unrecognized fashion. Each year, one-third of the parishes of the archdiocese are asked to nominate a parishioner. You will remember that Jim Davidson from Holy Ghost Parish received this award last year. I am happy and proud to announce that Paul Hagerty, a parishioner of St. Bridget’s, has been chosen to be one of the recipients this year. Congratulations Paul, and thank you for your quiet service to our Communities. All are welcome to the ceremony. Please join us at the Cathedral next Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Let us pray for each other. God bless, Father Mahoney

St. Bridget’s - St. Vincent De Paul Christmas Giving Tree

The “Christmas Giving Tree” is going to be set up again this year with gift requests from local families. The tree will be up next weekend. If you would like to provide a gift please select and remove one of the paper ornaments from the tree. After purchasing your item please wrap it and securely attach the paper ornament to the gift (this ensures the gift is distributed to the proper family). Return the wrapped gift with the paper ornament to the church and place it under the giving tree. PLEASE RETURN ALL GIFTS ON OR BEFORE THE 9:00am MASS ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 20th. THE GIFTS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED THAT AFTERNOON. If you are interested in anonymously adopting a child or family please contact St. Vincent De Paul at: 781-878-1194. Thank you for generosity and support again this year.
