PRAYERS FOR OUR RELATIVES & FRIENDS SERVING IN THE MILITARY
Pro-Life Procession January 22, 2017 is the 44th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision of Roe vs. Wade. As a result of this decision, there have been over 56,000,000 legalized abortions performed in the United States since 1973. The Respect Life Committee of our collaborative is planning a pro-life procession to be held at the 4:00PM Mass on January 21st at St. Bridget as well as the 10:30AM Mass on January 22nd at Holy Ghost. The procession will honor the memory of the unborn and remind us how precious is the gift of life. WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS (ALL DIFFERENT AGES) TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCESSION. If you or your child are interested, please call Colleen Booker at 781-878-0900 or email her at [email protected] and let her know which Mass you will be attending, Name, birth year and email address. We need 46 people for each Mass. Please consider volunteering.
Upcoming Cursillo for Men On the weekend of January 26, 2017, the Retreat House in Easton will be hosting a Cursillo for men, 25 and older. The weekend is not so much a retreat, as it is an experience. Through a series of presentations and group discussions led by both clergy and laymen, participants gain a profoundly moving perspective on faith, our relationship with Christ, and the role of a Christian man in today’s world. A large part of the weekend includes much laughter and fantastic meals. Note: this is the no-football weekend before the Superbowl and is a great way to gain a new perspective for 2017 and beyond. Limited registrations—fills quickly. For more information please contact Denis Concannon at St. Bridget’s at 339-788-7164.

Holy Hour for Life Our collaborative’s annual Holy Hour for Life will be held on Tuesday, January 24 at 7:00 PM in the Chapel in Holy Ghost Church. There will be many Holy Hours such as this one throughout the United States this month marking the forty-fourth anniversary of the Roe versus Wade decision. That decision legalized abortion in America. We will be praying for an end to abortion in our country, forgiveness for the millions of children who have been aborted and repentance and healing for those who have taken part in abortions. Please come to the Holy Hour. Your prayers are powerful. This Holy Hour will be held in conjunction with the Divine Mercy Hour. Please call any of the deacons at either rectory if you have questions.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative, Happy Christmas!!! The Christmas Season lasts through this weekend with the celebration of the Epiphany. Keep wishing people a Merry Christmas through this weekend. Let the message of Christmas and the Peace it brings guide our hearts and actions during this New Year. Today we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. The word Epiphany means “manifestation” or “showing forth.” This Feast commemorates the manifestation of the glory of Christ that was shown upon the Gentiles in the person of the Magi with the appearance of the star. They offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Gold was a gift that was fit for a King. The Magi did not perceive Jesus as their equal but rather as their King. Frankincense was a gift fit for a priest. The Magi perceived Jesus to be a priest, one who is an advocate between God and man. Myrrh was used to embalm the dead. While the Magi perceived that Jesus was their King and a priest, they also perceived that He would die for the salvation of mankind. Several moments in Christ's early life and ministry have been celebrated as “epiphanies.” These include the visit of the Magi, Jesus’ baptism by John (which is celebrated this Monday, January 9th this year), and Jesus’ first miracle at Cana. Those are the three “official” ones. There are countless others. In truth, anytime Christ is manifested or made known is an epiphany. Many people make New Year’s Resolutions. For your consideration, pray about ways YOU can be an epiphany of the Lord. How can you show forth or manifest Christ to those around you? Talk about it with your family and friends. Be creative! Invite someone to help you show forth and manifest Christ with you to a co-worker, classmate, or family member. Epiphany Proclamation 2017 While a day like Christmas is fixed in our minds and on the calendars on December 25th, many of the important feasts of the Church year move, based upon the date that Easter is set. Easter changes each year moving to the Sunday after the "Paschal Full Moon," and can fall between March 22 and April 25. In ancient times before calendars were common, most people did not know the dates for the upcoming Liturgical year. On Epiphany Sunday, the upcoming dates were "proclaimed". After the singing of the Gospel, a Deacon or cantor, in keeping with an ancient practice of Holy Church, announces from the ambo the moveable feasts of the current year according to this formula: “Know, dear brethren, (brothers and sisters,) that, as we have rejoiced at the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ, so by leave of God’s mercy we announce to you also the joy of his Resurrec-tion, who is our Savior. On the First day of March will fall Ash Wednesday, and the beginning of the fast of the most sacred Lenten season. On the Sixteenth day of April you will celebrate with Joy Easter Day, the Paschal feast of our Lord Jesus Christ. On the Twenty-Fifth day of
May will be the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. On the Fourth day of June the feast of Pentecost. On the Eighteenth day of June, the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. On the Third day of December, the First Sunday of Advent of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom is honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Let us pray for each other. God bless,
