The 5 Commandmentth
Part 5Exodus 20:12
To the child or young person, the Bible is clear. Prov 23:22 Listen to your father, who gaveyou life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. On the maintenance of parentalauthority, see Ex 21:15,17; Deut 21:18-21. Ex 21:15 Anyone who attacks his father or hismother must be put to death. Ex 21:17 Anyone who curses his father or mother must be putto death. Deut 21:18 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey hisfather and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father andmother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. Theyshall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard." Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death.
Finding Nemo is the most popular animated feature of all time. What is the secret of its success?Much of its appeal is in the amazing technical and artistic features that helped produce awonderful underwater world. Others might point to the comical characters created by animatorsand voice actors. Behind it all is a great theme. There is a father who is a bit overprotective and ason who is a bit too careless. They both eventually learn to give in a little. The huge journey, forreunion motivated by love, gives us the greatest lesson of all. Parents and children need eachother and are worth sacrifice.

PATHWAYS PARENTS & KIDS
Hey Kids & Parents:
Pathways Kids have a lot to look forward to this
summer. By the time you are reading this, you
will have had an opportunity to hear some of our kids play
the chimes. They have been practicing on Wednesday nights for a
couple of months, and really wanted to show how much they have
learned in a very short time. Some of them did not read music, so
Connie Shawver has been assisting with their music education, as well
as preparing them to participate in our worship services. This should be
good training for some to eventually become Bell Choir members.
Our next Fun Night will be a SCHOOL IS OUT SUMMER
BASH, in the backyard at the Claassen home. Kelly, Warren, Keegan,
and Kaden have invited us to come play with them on Sunday, June 5,
from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. We’ll play games, grill hot dogs and just hang out
together to celebrate the beginning of our summer vacation. Parents can
expect more info in an email later this month. Some of the kids will have
spent the previous week at Tawakoni so we will expect to hear great
stories of fun and the things they learned at camp. Fellowship with good
friends while learning more about Jesus is one of the best experiences
ever!
Vacation Bible School planning is well under way. July 24 th
through July 29 is going to be wonderful. Krista Wasinger is planningth
crafts. Rev. Debbie and Lois Rahal are working on the Story Room. It
promises to be a great experience for kids, Youth help, and Adult
participants! Posters will appear shortly to show what is coming. Have a
great summer. See you in Sunday School Wykeemah & Rev. Debbie

KDear Hillside Family, I would like to offer my sincere thanks for the
prayers & visits during my recent hospitalization. Seeing the friendly
faces of staff, elders, & choir members made the time there more
bearable! I am so thankful that I belong to such a supportive church
family!. In Christ, Kelli Netson
K I would like to thank everyone who prayed for Jared Thomas over the
last 7 months. This young Marine is the son of a friend of mine. He has
been in Afghanistan on his 4 deployment to the war region. After someth
harrowing experiences, he has come home to his family in San Diego.
He gives credit for his safe return to all the prayers sent Heavenward by
so many people. Please continue to keep our son Geoff in your prayers.
Although he is in a much safer place than Jared was, he is still separated
from his family and needs our love and support.
Dick & Stacy Swisher
K I want to thank you for your generous contribution - especially
appreciated in this challenging economy. Thanks to caring donors like
you, Church World Service can provide food, water and other necessities
to families displaced by natural disasters. And, with your help, we can
also assist impoverished communities as they work to improve their
farming techniques, develop reliable water sources, and build a more
sustainable future. Rev. John L. McCullough, CWS
KThank You! When a congregation decides to take the major step of
continued, generous support of this vital ministry, I am reminded that our
work is not only important, but cherished. You have blessed us. If you
come to the General Assembly, please stop by the Thomas W. Phillips
Memorial Archives for a tour.
Glen Thomas Carson, DOC Historical Society

STEWARDSHIP CORNER
Extravagant Generosity
“So Joseph took the body...and laid it in his
own tomb.” Matthew 27:59-60
In the week beginning with Palm Sunday, the stories we read are full
of people giving extravagantly. Think about it and you see giving
everywhere. Someone gives Jesus a donkey to ride into Jerusalem,
a valuable beast in that time. A woman buys expensive ointment to
massage Jesus’ tired body. Someone shares their house for Jesus
and his disciples to celebrate Passover. His followers buy and
prepare food for the feast. Jesus gives them bread and tells them he
will soon give his body, his blood, his life for them. From the cross,
Jesus gives the promise of forgiveness and eternal life to a thief.
Then this lovely story in Matthew of a Pharisee named Joseph risking
his reputation by giving his personal tomb for Jesus’ burial. Then, in
the resurrection, God not only gave Jesus life, but in so doing gave
us forgiveness and a promise not to desert us, even when we desert
God. Can there be a more extravagant gift?
How do we respond to all this generosity? It needs to be more than
colored eggs and new clothes. It needs to be more than gardens of
flowers in church and Easter baskets. How do we respond to all this
generosity? With our own generous discipleship every day of our
lives. Molly Taiclet for the Hillside Stewardship Committee
PENTECOST OFFERING - JUNE 12Our Pentecost Offering this year is being dedicated to the Disciples
Home Missions for Transformation Ministries. This area of ministries is
changing struggling small congregations into active congregations.
Transformation Ministries is a fundamental change in the congregation’s
conception and implementation of ministry. A transforming
congregation will be oriented around mission to the
unchurched, nurturing them into the loving, caring
fellowship of Christ. It will be notably different from one
oriented primarily around ministering to members alone.
The needs of members will still be met. In the context of a
church in mission, everyone is important, churched, or yet-to-be
churched. Please support this ministry on June 12 when we take ath
collection for Pentecost. An envelope is enclosed for your convenience.
