(sanctuary) or return, please consider the appropriate times to return during the liturgy:

times of congregational singing (hymns) or speaking (the creed); or at the peace. Please

try to refrain from leaving or entering during times of prayer/confession and during the

sermon. Our ushers will be at the doors to the Nave to assist you.

Children:

Worship in our Episcopal Church Community should be characterized by a combination

of both tolerance and respect for others. Children are always welcome in worship, but if

your child should become 'inconsolable', please consider quietly moving into the Narthex

or Fotinos Hall until your little one 'settles down'. Remember that we have a fully staffed

nursery (infants – 2 yrs.) downstairs for your convenience.

Celebrant: Almighty and everlasting God, who in the Paschal mystery established the new

covenant of reconciliation: Grant that all who have been reborn into the

fellowship of Christ's Body may show forth in their lives what they profess by

THE FIRST READING: Acts 4:32-35 Reader: Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul,

and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but

everything they owned was held in common. With great power the

apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and

great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among

them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the

proceeds of what was sold. They laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was

distributed to each as any had need.

THE SECOND READING: 1 John 1:1-2:2 Reader: We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard,

was with the Father and was revealed to us-- we declare to you what we

are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that

God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have

fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not

do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light,

we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son

cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive

ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is

faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all

unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar,

and his word is not in us.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not

sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus

Christ the righteous; and he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not

for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

THE HOLY GOSPEL: John 20:19-31

Gospeller: When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors

of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the

Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you."

After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the

disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again,

"Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." When he

had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy

Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain

the sins of any, they are retained."

But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with

them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, "We have seen

the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his

hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his

side, I will not believe."

A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with

them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them

and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger

here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do

not doubt but believe." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!"

Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me?

Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe."

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which

are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come

to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through

believing you may have life in his name.

A Word From Deacon Judy

PEACE BE WITH YOU It is most likely that the disciples continued to meet in the upper room where the Last Supper had been held. But they met in something very like terror. They knew the bitterness of the Jews; they knew that Jesus had been killed; and they were afraid that their turn would come next. So they were meeting in terror, listening fearfully for every step on the stair and for every knock at the door, in fear that the emissaries of the Sanhedrin should come to arrest them too. As they sat there in the upper room, Jesus was suddenly in their midst. He gave them the normal everyday eastern greeting: "Peace be with you." It means far more than "May you be saved from trouble." It means: "May God give you every good thing." Then Jesus gave the disciples the commission which the Church must never forget. He said that as God had sent him forth, so he sent them forth. Jesus came with a message for all people and now he was going back to his Father. His message was now to be taken to all people by the Church. The Church was to be a mouth to speak for Jesus, feet to carry forth his errands, hands to do his work. Jesus then breathed on his disciples and gave them the Holy Spirit. As John wrote this portion of his Gospel, there is no doubt that he was thinking back to the old story of the creation of man. There the writer said: "And the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being (Genesis 2:7). The coming of the Holy Spirit is like the wakening of life from the dead. When the Holy Spirit comes upon the Church, the Church is recreated for her task. (William Barclay) Faithfully, Deacon Judy

UTO Spring Ingathering The Spring collection for the United

Thank Offering (UTO) will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2018. This

collection is used to fund domestic and international grants directly

to impact the lives of women and children by addressing compelling

human needs. This year there are UTO envelopes and “Blue Boxes”

in a basket in the Narthex. If you already have a “Blue Box” at home, you can either

bring it filled with your “Thanks Offering”, or you can write a check (made out to ECW)

for the amount and put in one of the envelopes. The focus of this project is to drop coins

in the “Blue Box” whenever you have something that you are thankful for. This is a good

project to include children in so that they can show their thanks. If you have any

† Brazilian Jazz Featuring The Ziad Jazz Quartet and Special Guests

Sunday, April 29, at 3:00 p.m.

The Ziad Jazz Quartet, a frequent performer for the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art’s

jazz program – and one of the ACCS most popular musical groups – will join us for a

third time to explore some of the best Brazilian-flavored jazz. Inspired by the 1964 album

Getz/Gilberto, which showcased two bossa nova innovators (a legendary saxophonist

and a seductive singer) in an album that became the centerpiece for Brazilian jazz, Ziad

will add an additional percussionist and flute/alto saxophonist to his quartet and feature

variations on the samba and other popular Latin genres. Don’t miss this captivating

afternoon that will have you bouncing with the beat and swooning in seventh heaven!

Reception to meet the musicians, with refreshments, follows the concert. Adults $15,

seniors and students $10, children under 12 free. For advance tickets or reservations,

EASTER COLLECTION "EASTER, 2018, COLLECTION WILL GO TO THOMPSON'S -

WATCH FOR SPECIAL ENVELOPES"

For over ten years, St. Peter by-the-Lake has been directly engaging and supporting Thompson (formerly Thompson Child & Family Focus). Annually, the Hawkins’ Puppet Ministry, with the Mission/Outreach Committee, has provided Saturday morning entertainment and lunch for the children. During the pre-Easter season, the congregation has contributed to purchasing uniforms for the children. And each Thanksgiving, our Diocese engages all its parishes to support a Special Offering in support of Thompson, which has its roots of origin and support in the three Episcopal Dioceses of North Carolina.
