The Tee Times WINTER 2014 Can’t complain about the weather we had this season. We had plenty of warm days with very little rainouts. I know it made it difficult on Joc and his crew during the driest periods but the course was in great shape all season. With the course in such great shape this fall it makes it tough to close the doors. The maintenance crew is hard at work put- ting the course to bed so that the course can be in great shape again next season. Before we say goodbye to the season I thought I would share a few of my high- lights. On May 20th my wife and I were Director of Golf Operations The Dunes is everywhere social. blessed with a baby boy named Jack. He is doing great and growing like a weed bentgrass green. I know Joc does- n’t like to hear that word. With my new friend at home, the summer flew by. Another highlight has to come from the Couples Classic golf tournament where Tyson Beaupre made an ace on hole #8 to win a new truck. It’s a fortunate thing that he only had one hole to play after that. When he got off the course he was buzzing to say the least. It was fun to see the excitement level of him and the group he was playing with. This leads me to the fun and enjoyment of all of our Dunes Hosted Events. Jackie does such a great job with all of these events and it’s a pleasure to help out with. The events keep getting better every year and continue to grow. All of these events are a highlight for myself and hopefully for you as well. I personally can’t wait for the snow to fly so the ski season can begin. It’s been a great season and I look forward to the next one. Have a great winter and Happy Holidays. – Mike Bowen Director of Golf Operations thedunes.ca s h o p o n li n e 2015 Golf Passes Gift Cards Pro Shop Holiday Hours Dec 8 - Dec 24 Mon - Thu: 12 - 5pm Fri: 12 - 7pm Sat: 11-4pm All clothing in the Pro Shop is 50% OFF! As I write my review for 2014, my firstthought is whew; where did the time go?

Some of you may have noticed I spent alittle more time at the course this year. Myrole here expanded into Food & Beverageand may I say a new appreciation on howdemanding and rewarding this positioncan be. Which leads me to thank Lisa andher staff for a very successful year; and toour customers who not only stayed toenjoy a beverage and meal after golf butmade it a destination to bring family andfriends.

I’m proud to say our Dunes Hosted eventsseen another significant growth largelydue to great community support. I mustsay our sponsors are truly the best. Thisyear we were able to raise close to $4500for Jr. Golf through these events. Specialthanks to all of you who attended.

A few highlights: The Pure Home Ladies’Challenge 50’s theme was a huge suc-cess. Everyone including the staff weregreat sports and embraced the idea.

The McLean & Shaw Men’s Open hosteda 2 day event with the chance to win$100,000 hole in one at end of day onSunday.

The Boston Pizza Couples Classic wascompletely sold out and what excite-ment when my nephew Tyson Beauprewon the truck on #8 with a hole-in-one.

The Forward Jr. Open was won by ourown Sean Tomkins who also went on towin the Windsor Ford Peace Country Jun-ior Tour. Congratulations Sean!

Our Yogurty’s Seniors’ Classic sponsorowned and operated by Harley and Car-lee Cardwell the previous owners of Su-perlube brought a new franchise to townand we wish them much success. To up-date everyone, the Yogurty’s Seniors’Classic will be moving to Sunday, June28, 2015. Tell all you friends!

And finally, the Northern Metalic Iron-man was an actual Ironman the guysgolfed in bitter cold temperatures butpersevered and rose to the challenge.

If any of you have ever organized anevent it doesn’t happen without a lot ofhelp. Honorable mention goes to my

right-hand women Alex Dunn. Always asource of knowledge and youthful, ener-getic enthusiasm, keeps me current. Notoften you can find a confident youngwoman that comes prepared to work. Ilove that about her.

As well, Mike Bowen and his staff were al-ways willing to work or participate in ourevents. Oh did I say work. Just kidding, they were great from registration tocourse setup so thanks guys for all yourhard work that is very much appreciated.

I’d like to thank Joc and his staff for as-sisting in the preparation of all our spe-cial events, the course conditions havenever been better.

And to my match play partner Trina Ironswho can now whip my butt, the best col-laborator I have had the pleasure ofworking with, a huge thank you. Your tal-ent and skills in graphic design and so-cial media are truly unmatched. TheDunes and I are so fortunate to call youapart of our team.

The Dunes other successful collaborationthis year was with Reading University. Weare proud to announce $35,000 injectioninto our community for our youth. Whatan opportunity it is to work with Rhondaand Linda Side who are so passionateabout literacy for our Grade 3 students inGrande Prairie and the County.

So when the world gets crazy, whichhappens a lot these days, think of TheDunes and summer 2015. It’s only 4months away.

Merry Christmas and a Happy andHealthy New Year.

Well, it’s that time of year. The geeseare heading south along with thesnowbirds. Golfing snowbirds that is! Ihope everyone had a great golf sea-son and took advantage of the won-derful summer. Although it was achallenge to keep the course wet, Imuch prefer a hot summer. We arepretty happy with the conditionsover-all.

First off, I would like to thank my staff, that are instrumental in our success.David Ouellette, Myles Mcallister,Shelly Horneland and the rest of theturf crew all work with passion anddedication every day to provide thebest playing conditions possible. I alsowant to thank the rest of our manage-ment team at the Dunes for all theirdedication this season as well.

Apart from trying to keep enoughwater on the course, we have contin-ued to make many small improve-ments to the golf course. It’s veryimportant that we continue to upkeep and beautify the facility. We haveongoing plans to improve cart paths, bunkers and turf quality in manyareas. We have also completed im-provements to the driving rangewhich will enhance your experience atthe Dunes. We thank you for your pa-tience through this process.

So, although the golf season is ended,we do however have facilities to pro-vide Christmas parties, meetings, weddings and much more in the off-season, so stay tuned and we will seeyou in the spring!

Food & Beverage

As I sit back to write this newsletter, I amamazed on how fast it all seemed to goby, yet in the middle of it all it all seemedin slow motion. I certainly had no ideahow fun you golfers are! I want to firstoff thank the members all our ladiesfrom social and commercial leagues andmen’s night for making this an enjoyableseason for me, the amazing patrons whoI have enjoyed getting to know and haveenjoyed the golf stories.

To the managers and staff who withouta doubt got tired of my golf questions. Iam a little wiser in the golf terminologybut my swing still needs a lot of work!

A special mention to my Food and Bev-erage staff, for without my cart girls, kiosk, supervisors, servers, cooks, ban-quet chef and my team mate Jackie, itcertainly wouldn’t have been as success-ful.

I look forward to the Christmas season, and bring holiday cheer to all of ourguests, perhaps a Sunday brunch or two,and certainly a wine and cheese party,so keep your eyes on our website and onFacebook for some upcoming winterevents. So raise your glass and cheersand bon appetite.
