The Church of St. George ■ Long Lake, Minnesota 2 WELCOME to . . . THE CHURCH OF ST. GEORGE

Thank you to all our visitors, guests and extended family members for joining us this weekend. Call the office at (952) 473-1247 or email us at [email protected] if you would like more information about the parish or to register.

Please monitor our website and Flocknote messages regarding when small Masses will resume in June. Father Juettner and parish staff are currently meeting and planning regarding a safe return to Masses. If you would like to be an usher, distribute communion, or help with cleaning, please contact the parish office. LIMITED EUCHARISTIC ADORATION RETURNS Wednesday, 3pm-7pm Saturday, 12pm-4pm We are offering parishioners the opportunity to spend some time in quiet prayer or Eucharistic Adoration in the church twice per week. All parishioners are welcome, even those who are not current Adorers. We are providing for appropriate social distancing and cleaning protocols that meet CDC guidelines. A head Adorer will be available to give instructions and answer questions. As we cannot have more than 10 people in the church at one time, we hope that you understand that you may need to wait in your car for a time until someone leaves or when the next hour begins so that we do not exceed the 10 person capacity. The Archdiocese wants us to remind parishioners that those 65 years and older and those with chronic conditions are encouraged to stay home. Do not come to church if you are sick, have a fever, or have been exposed to Covid-19. We recommend wearing a mask and using your restroom at home before coming to church to limit your points of contact while you are here. Everyone entering the church for prayer is asked to sign a one-time waiver that acknowledges that they accept risks associated with potential exposure to Covid-19. This waiver has been distributed via Flocknote and is available on our website. Wait to enter the church until the door is propped open for you. Be sure to maintain a 6 foot distance from others who do not belong to your household. Use the hand sanitizer provided at the entrance to the church. The pews are cordoned off to provide for social distancing. You will disinfect your pew with an alcohol-based solution that we will provide before you sit down. Let the spray dry. You may sit with only other people from your household and must keep a six foot distance from all other people. You will disinfect your pew and kneeler again before you depart and use hand sanitizer as you leave as well. Please ask the head Adorer if you need assistance. Do not congregate or visit with others in the parking lot. These measures are for everyone’s protection and to stop the spread of Covid-19

Holy Communion at the Church of St. George Visit the Church Website for current dates and times and to sign up via Sign Up Genius: www.stgeorgelonglake.org May 30-31st Father Mark Juettner and Deacon Bruce Bowen will be distributing Communion in two locations, the church and the community center. They will be wearing masks and gloves, and when you arrive, they will provide instructions how to receive the Eucharist in a safe manner. For their protection and yours, please wear a mask. Each 10 minute appointment has only 1 sign up slot, either for an individual or for a family who lives in the same household. Please sign up for the next available slot so that there is not a gap in the sign up. Sign up only once during the Easter season to provide other individuals and families an opportunity to receive the Eucharist. You may, however, sign up again if there is a slot remaining 1 hour prior to the start of Communion. If you do not have access to our website via your computer or phone, call the parish office and leave a message that you would like to sign up. A staff member will call you back. Do not arrive early; please remain in your car until your scheduled time and until the person or family ahead of you has exited the building. Our foremost concern is for the safety of our parishioners and Father Juettner and Deacon Bowen.

PARKING LOT RECONCILIATION In keeping with directives from the Archbishop, Father Juettner will continue to hear confessions, though he will be making adjustments that comply with distancing and safety guidelines put in place by the Archdiocese. During the shut down, the times for the Sacrament of Penance will be Saturdays from noon until 1:00 pm and Wednesday nights from 6:00pm to 7:00 pm in the parking lot. Please stay in your car and maintain a 6 ft distance for safety. If there is more than one person in a car, you may walk up to Father’s window, keeping a 6 ft distance, to confess privately. Cars that are lined up to wait should leave an appropriate distance so that all confessions are private.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION What is Spiritual Communion? When a Catholic is unable to receive the Eucharist for one of several reasons —- breaking the one hour fast, being in a state of mortal sin, or homebound or unable to leave our home to attend Mass as in a time of pandemic —- the Church encourages us to make an act of “spiritual communion,” where we unite ourselves to God through prayer. It is a beautiful way to express to God our desire to be united with him when we are unable to complete that union in the reception of Holy Communion. Pray one of the following prayers as an Act of Spiritual Communion: My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWS ************************** For information about the Knights of Columbus, please contact Ed Rundle at 952-473-9565. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Even though we cannot worship at St. George at this time, our students are still learning and will be going to schools of higher learning this fall. As we have in the past, the KC's will be offering scholarships to colleges or trade schools. Due to the current uncertainties, we will determine the amount and number of scholarships by August 9th. Go to the St George website, download the form and follow the instructions provided. Good luck and God Bless! MASS INTENTIONS Father Juettner has been saying private Masses each day of the week. Since the Mass intentions from March need to be rescheduled, we have been rescheduling Masses so that all Mass requests are honored. Please note that the date of your Mass request may have been changed from its original date if it needed to be made up. We will continue reschedule all missed Masses until all Mass intentions are included in a Mass. They served 160 meals from food purchased from La Cocina Ana, a Plymouth establishment which prepares take and bake Mexican entrees. Thank you to these wonderful volunteers for this great service to our community!

May 31, 2020 Pentecost THE RICHNESS OF THE SPIRIT Students, and most adults recalling their school days, are familiar with the phrase “compare and contrast” that shows up from time to time on tests. Today we hear two different accounts of the giving of the Holy Spirit to the church. Let’s contrast, then compare. Luke’s account from Acts is filled with arresting details: the mighty wind from heaven, the tongues of flame, the miracle of different languages. John’s account seems timid: fearful disciples, the wounded Christ, the expelling of breath from his risen body, not from the sky. Our literal, modern minds wonder which way it happened; our noisy culture probably makes us prefer the former. But if we compare the two, we find that the dazzling richness of the Spirit fills both accounts, for it is the very breath of the risen Christ, ascended to the sky in Luke, that appears to his disciples in John and sends his followers forth to carry on his mission of forgiving sin and proclaiming the mighty acts of God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Filled with the Holy Spirit, the apostles begin to speak in tongues (Acts 2:1-11). Psalm — Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth (Psalm 104). Second Reading — In one Spirit we are baptized into one body and given to drink of one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13). Gospel — Jesus Christ appears to the disciples and sends them on their mission with the power to forgive or retain sins through the Holy Spirit (John 20:19-23).

REFLECTIONS

I used to pray that God would feed the hungry, or do this or that, but now I pray that he will guide me to do whatever I'm supposed to do, what I can do. I used to pray for answers, but now I'm praying for strength. I used to believe that prayer changes

things, but now I know that prayer changes us and we change things. ― Mother Teresa

CONTINUED FINANCIAL SUPPORT NEEDED Thank you to so much to everyone who has been able to support St. George’s operations and ministry during this difficult time. Perhaps this is the right time for those of you who have not as yet signed up for our very easy, electronic giving, to now start. Not only is this method much more reliable and easy for the parish to operate, it helps to keep our money counters from unnecessary exposure. In order to make it as easy as possible, here are three simple ways to continue/begin your giving during this period: 1. Give Electronically. You can set up automatic electronic payments in 2 easy steps. First, go to our secure parish website: http://stgeorgelonglake.org/stewardship/ . Second, select one of two choices ("Pay Now Offline" or “Pay Now Online”). You can elect to make a regular ongoing donation or a one-at-a-time donation. It’s as easy as that. 2. Give by U.S. Mail. Simply mail your donation to "Church of St George, 133 North Brown Road, Long Lake, MN 55356. 3. Contact Lynn Johnston, our parish bookkeeper, at: [email protected] or call and leave her a message at 952-473-1247 ext 103. Thank you for your ongoing prayers and support for the parish and for your generosity of donations to the parish. As stewards of our treasures, we shall meet these present day challenges together and as a community of faith let us look forward to a future day when we come home again to this: our vibrant parish of worship and fellowship.

Direct support grant funds are distributed directly to individuals and families to help with rent, food, medical bills, or other emergency expenses. If you have been greatly impacted by Covid-19, you may apply for assistance through this fund. Applicants must be active St. George parishioners. To apply, please contact: Melba Reyes Chavarria at 612-296-7584 or [email protected] OR Sara Dore at 952-473-1247 or [email protected] for a brief interview. If you get our voicemail, please leave a message with a callback number. All applications are confidential. These one-time grant amounts will be based on a variety of factors including the number of applicants, the number of people in a household, the type of need requested, individual circumstances or extenuating factors. Church staff may contact you for additional information if necessary. Please pray for all our families who are in need.
