Term 3—Week 9

Dear Parents & Wider Community,

It has been another rewarding term for the students and staff. Over the past few weeks there has been some changes made to the Literacy program in the K/1/2 class which has already seen some pleasing results. This strategy will promote increased student engagement through the use of Visible Learning strategies and the differentiation of learning for each

individual student in the classroom.

The Tournament of Minds Team finalised their project last week and submitted it to the regional judges. We will find out the result by the end of the week. I would like to commend the efforts of the team as a whole, but recognise the outstanding guidance and leadership

that Joshua Salisbury showed throughout the whole process as a team leader!

Long Service Leave

I will be taking some Long Service Leave as of tomorrow for 6 days. I will be at school next Thursday 24th September as I have Professional Learning and meetings already scheduled on that day. I feel that this is an appropriate time, as a Teaching Principal, to take leave as there are not as many end of term requirements for me to coordinate. Rena and Dave will be

supporting me by working additional days and hours. All other staff will be onsite as normal.

Lismore Cup— 1/2 day Gazetted Public Holiday

The Gazetted Lismore Cup Race half day public holiday is on Thursday,24th September, 2020 (Week 10). Quinn’s buses will be collecting students on the Terania Bus run at 12 noon. Parents of the Tuntable Creek run and other parents who drive their children to and from school will need to collect their children between 12noon and 12:15pm. Please notify the school if you are getting another family member or friend to pick your child/ren up. Also notify

the school if you would like your child/ren to walk home to an awaiting supervising adult.

OCTOBER TERM 4

ENROLMENTS FOR 2021

It is that time of year that we start to promote enrolment procedures for the following year. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Kindergarten orientation visits are not permitted to take place at this stage, but we hope that restrictions are lifted in the coming months so that transition days can be held, especially in small schools where contact tracing

is quite minimal.

I am still able to hold orientation meetings and/or school tours are available upon request, though these would need

to take place outside of school hours between 3pm and 5pm, once again to reduce contact.

We wish to ‘spread the word’ about our great school throughout the district because we really do offer outstanding

learning opportunities at our school with the evidence to prove it!

If you know of a family looking for a welcoming, country school, or if you know of someone with a child who is ready

for kindergarten then please ask them to make contact with the school.

If you are already attending a district school, but you are zoned for The Channon and wanting to move to your local

school, please contact me, Stephen Manser (Principal) on 0401 035 291 or email [email protected]

SCHOOL PLANNING SURVEY

A survey was distributed to all parents via the week 7 newsletter. To date we have only had 8 surveys returned to the school. The survey is a one page questionnaire with responses as 1—5 scoring. The staff have attempted to keep the survey to one page at the same time as

being comprehensive.

It is vital that we get a strong response so I urge all families to

complete the survey and return it this ASAP.

The staff and the students have also completed surveys.

The student, parent and staff data will be analysed to determine how

we can ’Move Forward’ in response to:

What is working and what isn’t based on the 1-5 scoring,

What we need to adopt, adapt or stop,

Where we need to direct funding,

What are the priorities of the students, parents and staff,

Improving community engagement,

Enhancing teacher feedback to students & extending that

feedback to families using effective communication,

2021-2024 school planning and Strategic Direction of the School, and

How students, parents and staff feel about our school.

The surveys are completely anonymous as we request that students return them to a year 6 leader. The year 6 leader then leaves the survey at the office with Mrs Luce.

Another copy of the survey has been distributed today, this time on bright paper. Please return it ASAP as I would like to analyse the results and provide feedback from the data back to you.

Mrs Cantrell—K/1/2

The K/1/2 students are continuing to work well in our new Literacy timetable that sees an emphasis on writing, spelling and grammar. I think some students even surprised themselves

with how well they went in the spelling test!

In Maths we have been learning patterns. We have looked at patterns in shapes, colours,

sounds and numbers.

On Tuesday we took advantage of the lovely weather and went out into the playground to collect materials to create nature mandalas. We found out that mandala comes from a Sanskrit word meaning ‘circle’. We looked at patterns in mandalas, then we got into groups

and created our own.

The K/1/2 students put on a lovely performance of ‘The Rainbow Fish’. Everyone acted so well, with Rhett making an excellent ‘Wise Old Octopus’, while Layella excelled herself as ‘The Rainbow Fish.’ Frankie was a perfect ‘Little Blue Fish’, while Errol and Jett were fabu-lous Starfish. Thanks to Ana and Tarmati for being such great narrators., with everyone else

as the supporting cast. Well done K/1/2!

Finally, we would like to thank Rusty (General Assistant) for delivering a trailer load of new sand for our sandpit. The sandpit has been a very popular play space recently and the students from K through to 6 have been very creative with their sand sculptures, hills and

tunnels.

Congratulations to these award recipients from our week 7 school assembly

2020 SCHOOL PHOTOS

The School Photos will be taken on Tuesday, 13th October, 2020. This is the first Tuesday back next term.

All students will need to be dressed in full school uniform and wear covered footwear.

If you would like to order any photos please return your photo pack back to school by this date. You can pay online

or send money on the day in the envelope which will be given to the photographer on the day.

ZOOMOBILE

Last Tuesday, it was ‘Threatened Species Day’ and the spotlight was on native plants, animals, and ecosystems that are under threat by humans. Students met 4 endangered animals under threat, who need our help: a blue-tongue skink, a snake, a rufous bettong (rat-kangaroo) and a red-tailed black cockatoo. Students were asked to reflect on

how we can protect these animals into the future.

Dorroughby Environmental Education centre also highlighted the threat faced by the marine ecosystem. A collection of litter/rubbish from a local beach was investigated by the students and it contained a large amount of plastic -extremely harmful to our marine life. We must reduce the use of plastic and ensure it is disposed of correctly to stop it

entering our waterways.

GAZETTED HALF DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY THURSDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER, 2020

Next Thursday 24th September, 2020 has been gazetted a half day public holiday for the Lismore Cup.

The Terania bus will pick students up at 12noon.

All other students who travel on the Tuntable Creek bus or are collected by car will need to be picked up between 12 noon and 12:15pm on this day.

Errol—September 29th

Jeremy—September 30th

Joshua—October 1st

Hunter—October 6th

Billie—October 9th

SCHOOL LUNCHES

Parents please ensure that you send your child/ren to school with a piece of fruit for sip and crunch and enough food

for recess and lunch. Maybe put in some extra fruit if they are eating everything before their lunch break.

COVID-19—Evidence of Test Results before returning to school

We have been advised by the NSW Department Of Education that all students displaying any flu like symptoms such as cough, runny nose etc will be required to have a COVID-19 test before returning to school. Once the results show

that it is a negative test you will need to forward this sms text to Mr Manser on 0401035291.

If results show a positive result proper protocol will take place.

If your child/ren comes to school with symptoms, parents or emergency contacts will be phoned and the student will remain in sick bay until a parent/carer arrives to take them home. A negative COVID-19 test will need to be cleared

before returning the student to school.

EXTERNAL VISTORS TO SCHOOL SITE FORM

Parents please be aware that if you enter the school for any reason e.g. drop off your child/ren, see a teacher or go

to the office, you will be required to fill out an External Visitors to School Site Form which is located in the foyer.

This is a NSW Department of Education requirement due to COVID-19.

DAYLIGHT SAVING

Daylight Saving will begin at 2am on Sunday 4th October 2020.

Don’t forget to turn your clocks forward an hour.

END OF TERM

We would like to wish all of our students and their families a safe and restful Spring break!

The last day of term 3 is Friday 25th September, 2020.
