Term 3—Week 7
Dear Parents & Wider Community,
I am so pleased to see the excellent teaching and learning that takes place at our school each and every day. Last week the 3-6 class finalised and presented their individual projects to their peers. It was clear that each student learnt about their topic as well as from each other. I am so proud to see
the great learning that is shared at our weekly assemblies.
School Survey
A school survey was distributed to all families back in March. This was sent out a week before changes began to occur due to COVID-19. As a result of this we only had a few surveys returned. A new anonymous survey will be distributed this week for each family to complete. It is requested that any surveys be returned to the year 6 leaders by Friday, 11th September. Mr Manser will collate this data and share the results with each family before the end of term 3. This data will also guide school
planning for 2021.
SAS Staff Recognition Week
Last week we acknowledged the outstanding work of our SAS Staff as part of this state wide initiative. Thank you Mrs Luce, Rusty, Rose and Sam. We appreciate your hard work and
efforts that contribute to the success of our school.

COVID-19—Evidence of Test Results before returning to school
We have been advised by the NSW Department Of Education that all students displaying any flu like symptoms such as cough, runny nose etc will be required to have a COVID-19 test before returning to school. Once the results show
that it is a negative test you will need to forward this sms text to Mr Manser on 0401035291.
If results show a positive result proper protocol will take place.
If your child/ren comes to school with symptoms, parents or emergency contacts will be phoned and the student will remain in sick bay until a parent/carer arrives to take them home. A negative COVID-19 test will need to be cleared
before returning the student to school.
EXTERNAL VISTORS TO SCHOOL SITE FORM
Parents please be aware that if you enter the school for any reason e.g. drop off your child/ren, see a teacher or go
to the office. You will be required to fill out an External Visitors to School Site Form which is located in the foyer.
This is a NSW Department of Education requirement due to COVID-19.
ZOO MOBILE PROGRAM—Wednesday, 2 September
This Wednesday, Dorroughby Environmental Education Centre (DEEC) is bringing an exciting one hour Zoo
Mobile program to our school, combining animal viewing, learning about threatened species and biodiversity.
Australia is home to more than 500,000 animal and plant species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. Over the last 200 years, more than 100 animal and plant species have become extinct. In NSW alone there are close
to 1000 animal and plant species at risk of extinction.
Threatened Species Day is when we turn the spotlight on native plants, animals, and ecosystems that are under
threat and reflect on how we can protect them into the future.
Students get to meet the animals that need protection with the opportunity to work with Dorroughby EEC to
investigate how to protect wildlife and improve habitat in the school grounds.
The day also celebrates the amazing work that is being done to save them by passionate conservationists,
researchers, volunteers, and community experts.
The presentation will be brought to you by Cindy Picton and Tamlin Heathwood from Dorroughby EEC with the help
of a Macadamia Castle Education Officer.
3-6 Class Project—Significant Australian Places
Each student in the 3-4-5-6 class have researched a unique Significant Australian Place over the past 5 weeks. The students designed a
written project and made a spoken presentation last week to educate each other on what they learnt and now know about their topic.

Rose Smith—Writing
Each week the K/1 students attend intensive writing lessons with Rose Smith.
This week in writing we learnt about Sunday Chutney's extraordinary life and how she lives all over the world and her likes and dislikes of moving so much. Some things that Sunday Chutney did not like were creamed corn, sand in her swimmers, long dinner engagements or the first lunchtime at a new school. The children enjoyed learning the meaning
of new words such as 'long engagements and glamorous'. We hope you like our sentences and illustrations.
From Mrs Cantrell— K/1/2
In Maths we have been learning about Fractions and this week we are going to focus on Patterns and Algebra. We will start by going on a walk around our lovely school and identifying patterns in nature. We will then look for man-made patterns. Children love patterns, so please point out any you notice when you are with them. We discovered an amazing fact recently. If a student reads for an extra twenty minutes a day outside of school, they add two million words to their accumulated reading! When I told the K/1/2 that fact I could see some of them looking quite inspired! Please encourage your children to read. We may not be able to travel at the moment, but we can go anywhere by
book!
FATHERS DAY
To all of our wonderful dads and grandfathers, we wish you a very happy Fathers Day for this coming Sunday, 6th September, 2020.
