Welcome Back Welcome Back to Term 3. Mrs Niccol is currently on leave and being replaced by Mrs Bray. Welcome back to Annangrove Mrs Bray. It is to be another busy term with excursions, fundraising events and sporting activities already booked. The whole school has been invited to Galston High Schools’ musical ‘GREASE’, next Wednesday 26th July. Please return your note and money as soon as possible. Our Year 6 students are organising a Pyjama day on Thursday 3rd August and Mrs Sorokin has organised zone athletics teams, NRL backyard league, tennis coaching and basketball coaching, just to name a few. It is vital that you read this newsletter and keep a copy of the calendar on your fridge so you don’t miss anything. Canteen Makeover Over the holiday period our school canteen has been given a makeover. It has been painted, new signs and boards installed as well as lots of little friends visiting. A huge thank you to the Levien and Maher families for their hard work during the holidays. It looks amazing and I’m certain our students will gain much pleasure from the makeover. Athletics Carnival During the last week of term 2, we held our annual small schools athletics carnival with Middle Dural Public School and Hillside Public School. The morning was beautiful and the events ran smoothly until around lunchtime, when it started to rain. We were lucky enough to get all our main events completed before the rain. Our students participated with enthusiasm and tried their hardest. Congratulations to all students who participated and cheered other students as they raced. Thank you to Mrs Sorokin for planning this event and organising the day. Mrs Sorokin is preparing the zone team and notes were sent home yesterday. Thank you to Ms Grundy for organising and running the canteen, along with her band of helpers. We really appreciate your hard work and organisation for this day. School Disco We finished off Term 2 with our school disco. It was a great afternoon with some new dance moves being created. We had a few parents joining in as well. Thank you to Mrs Sorokin for organising this event. Student Success Last week I received confirmation that Achyuth (Year 6) has been successful in gaining entry into a Selective High School for Year 7. This is a huge achievement and we send congratulations to Achyuth and his family. Yesterday I received the following letter:

We are very happy that we decided to send our son Achyuth to

Annangrove Public School last year. Being a small school it fosters

every student’s passion and you can always find a teacher willing to

help you in every field. The school is academically challenging and

develops students as all-rounders who value education. We have

observed that our son has grown in confidence in many fields, such as

Public Speaking, Leadership and taking responsibility because of the

nurturing environment in the school. The school provides wonderful

opportunities in sport. Unlike big schools, kids are not lost in the

crowd. The individual attention and care provided to the children in

this school is commendable. We are particularly thankful to Mr Rich

and Mrs McHugh for their wonderful efforts in helping Achyuth get

selected to attend his dream selective school.

University Competition Congratulations to all students who sat the University Competitions for Digital Technologies and Science. Our results for Digital Technologies were: Participation- Tess and Jude Merit – Josh Credit – Jack and Charlie Distinction – Rory, Liam, Achyuth and Calum.

Our results for Science were: Participation – Jack, Emily, Charlie, and Tess Merit – Achyuth, Koby Credit – Avesta, Liam and Josh Distinction – Daniel and Calum High Distinction – Rory

Staff Development Day On Monday, our teachers worked tirelessly to produce more documentation leading to our external validation date of 21st September. This is a huge task and staff will be working hard to complete it over the next couple of months.

New Additions During the holidays, Mr Tyszyk arrived at school with six new residents for our chook yard. They are young, but will start laying soon. The students are very excited to be able to collect eggs again.

Interrelate – Family Education We have had several inquiries indicating an interest in a family education evening, held by Interrelate. We have made a tentative booking for Thursday the 19th of October for two education programs. The first session “Where Did I Come From?” is aimed for students from years 3 to 6, and the second session, “Preparing for Puberty” is aimed at students in years 5 to 6. Please find the note attached to the newsletter. We have held these sessions in the past and I strongly recommend them for all primary aged children and their parents. Timbertown Pie Drive Thank you to the families that ordered pies in the pie drive. The pies will be delivered to the school tomorrow. Please collect your pie orders from the office in the afternoon when picking up your children. Woolworths Earn and Learn We are participating in the Woolworths Earn and Learn Program. Through this program we will be able to obtain new educational resources. To the families that do their shopping at Woolworths please consider collecting these stickers for the school. The promotion starts on Wednesday 26th July, anyone from our school community – parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends can collect the stickers.
