Term 4 - Week 3 Friday 1st November 2019 Principal’s Report We have had a super exciting and productive few weeks
here at Gladstone with all of us being busy and productive in
the classroom and in the playground.
Since our last newsletter we have welcomed Tainui and
Ruby to our school, Tainui is in our Raptors class and Ruby
has joined the Owletes. It has been nice to welcome new
faces to our school! On behalf of our Gladstone School
community I would like to welcome Tainui, Ruby and their
family to our school. We have also welcomed our 2020
Kindergarten students to our school with our Orientation and
transition to school program beginning last week. We have
warmly welcomed Joel, Asher and Willow to Gladstone
Public School and are looking forward to getting to know
them and their family as they begin their school journey with
us here at Gladstone. Sadly we have said farewell Tyson and
his Mum, Lisa this week. We wish them all the very best and
hope that they will stay in touch and visit us often.
Thank you to our SRC and Mrs Scullion for all of their efforts
organizing the Halloween Disco. It was a great afternoon of
fun, dancing and a fantastic fundraising opportunity for our
SRC. Thank you to our parents for coming along and joining
in the fun and helping out with setting up and the cleaning
up! We are very lucky to have such dedicated parents at our
school supporting our students and teachers. Thank you all
very much.

Behaviour Award: William Westerman
Week three has come and gone already.
This week during literacy we have been continuing our
research on celebrations around the world. The kids have
been looking at holidays including Ramadan, Chinese
New Year, Winter Solstice and Holi just to name a few.
During numeracy we have been continuing our work on
subtraction along with meaning all about area and
volume.
We started swimming this week and it was great to see
that so many of the kids participated even though the pool
hasn’t completely warmed up yet!
We had a great time with our new 2020 Kindergarten
students last week and thank our Year 5 & 6 friends who
came to help out with our book walk. It was a great
morning, We are all looking forward to the Transition days
throughout the term as we welcome our new friends to
our classroom and to our school.

Primary Class
Student of the Week: Chace Senescall Academic Award: Brodie Mundey This term we are working on a unit called Light Shows. The Light shows unit is an ideal way to link science with literacy in the classroom. It provides opportunities for students to explore the properties of light and how it enables us to see. Students’ thinking about light and its role in our lives and our community will be developed using hands-on activities. Through investigations students explain how objects reflect, absorb and refract light, and how we can use light to meet our needs. This term we will be studying Growth and Development. Feelings of self-confidence and self-acceptance and the ability to act in the best interests of themselves and others are fostered by an understanding of the nature of life’s changes and the uniqueness of individual development. Growth and Development involves developing each student’s understanding of their own physical, social, cognitive and emotional development in the context of increasing awareness of changes that occur throughout the cycle of people’s lives. Students participate in activities that increase their confidence and competence to manage change. We will also be looking at Active Lifestyle. Physical activity habits developed in school years are often maintained in later life. Students need to understand the importance of a balanced lifestyle incorporating regular physical activity for health and fitness. Active Lifestyle is concerned with students adopting activity patterns that promote their wellbeing. In this strand, students will examine the components of a balanced lifestyle, explore options for recreation and develop the skills and attitudes necessary for an active lifestyle. Mrs Pugh

News from the Garden Our garden has been flourishing after some lovely rain and diligent help from our students who all seem to have green thumbs. Steam and Cedar have been displaying our produce and so far we have received some welcome donations from their customers who love our organic veges. These are also available to parents who might like to trade with a donation which might be help, money, seeds, manure, hay etc. I would also like the community to feel free to come and join us in the pleasurable and productive pastime of gardening. Our new chooks have also settled in to their new home. We are now collecting eggs each day. Thank you Chookies! Mrs Pugh
