ACCENTUATING THE POSITIVE

TERM 2 WEEK 2 - FRIDAY 24 APRIL 2020

KIA ORA E TE WHĀNAU. GREETINGS FAMILIES

I would like to acknowledge the incredible community we have here at Rutherford Primary. It has been such a joy this week connecting with some of the families and with our children. I tautoko the tremendous job you have all done, in what has been a very different start to the term. I would like to thank the many families who will continue to support your children at home over the next two weeks. Please know that we will be right there with you as we have been up until now.

To those of you that are heading back to work, I wish you well. A small number of us will be heading into school as well to support our families who need us. Thank you for trusting us to take care of your children while you are at work. While most of you have managed to keep your children with you, if your circumstances change and you need to head back to work or you are unable to arrange care for your child, please let us know, we can help.

Although some of us will be back at school, please do not come into the school and use the school grounds. It is important that we protect the integrity of our school bubbles and limit the people to those who are registered to come to school.

Looking forward to next week - Monday 27 April is ANZAC day observed and Tuesday 28 April is a nationwide teacher staff only day. There will be no distance learning delivered on either of those days. If you are looking for ideas, remember we have the Kete of Ideas. The links are at the bottom of this page.

ACCENTUATING THE POSITIVE

The board of trustees met via zoom on Tuesday evening,

We discussed the school's Covid-19 plans. Now that NZ is headed into level 3 we discussed what this meant for our school. Amanda

has been in touch with all families via email as to how the school will be operating in level 3. The plans in place are following up to

date Ministry of Education advice, where a balance needs to be struck between safety for all, and ensuring children of essential

workers are cared for.

We discussed the distance learning our families are going through. We recognise that this is a massive change for both the children

and the teaching staff. Your children's teachers are working exceptionally hard delivering this learning, and we understand there has

been a lot of positive feedback from the community about the distance learning delivered. Our teachers are also learning new skills

in how to deliver distance learning, please be kind and give them some feedback on how this is working for your family via seesaw

or email. A huge thank you is also required for all the parents and caregivers who have worked with their children to get their dis-

tance learning set up, and supported them with it.

As we have said before, the Ministry told us we needed to put in an enrollment zone. We received a letter from the Ministry con-

firming that the zone has now been officially adopted by the school and recognised by the Ministry of Education.

The board is continuing to work on finding a permanent replacement for Jeannette Craig, our previous principal. In the meantime

the school is being fantastically led by Amanda, who has taken on the role of principal in these most extraordinary times. We are

very fortunate indeed. Ka pai Amanda.

Stay safe everyone.

LEARNING PACKS - There has been a tremendous number of requests for learning packs and we might need a couple of weeks to get them out. Our teachers need to teach their classes while also preparing and delivering packs, so please give us some time to get that done. Thank you.
