Acaba de iniciar un año más dándonos la oportunidad de tener 365 nuevas páginas en blanco de un capítulo más de nuestra vida, ojala tomemos la oportunidad de escribir solo buenas páginas. Es un buen momento de reflexionar sobre el año que pasó y gozar de lo bueno y aprender de lo malo para evitarlo, y tomar nuevas resoluciones acerca de nuestras vidas aprovechando la oportunidad de un nuevo inicio. Compartir momentos especiales con aquellos que amamos, y desearles a todos a nuestro alrededor la prosperidad, la alegría, el amor y la salud que se merecen para el año que recién inicia del 2016. Es momento de decir adiós a los sentimientos negativos, a las tristezas, a las promesas incumplidas, a las personas que nos han hecho daño, y encontrarnos con todas las maravillosas posibilidades, los sueños, las oportunidades, y dar la bienvenida a las nuevas esperanzas, nuevas las resoluciones, nuevas alegrías, nuevo espíritu, y nuevos comienzos que se manifiestan en cada uno de nosotros. Buena razón tenían nuestros ancestros con el dicho de: “renovarse o morir”. Estos pensamientos fueron muy bien resumido por el escritor brasileño Martha Medeiros: Muere lentamente quien se transforma en esclavo del hábito, repitiendo todos los días los mismos trayectos, quien no cambia de marca. No arriesga vestir un color nuevo y no le habla a quien no conoce. Muere lentamente quien hace de la televisión su gurú. Muere lentamente quien evita una pasión, quien prefiere el negro sobre blanco y los puntos sobre las “íes” a un remolino de emociones, justamente las que rescatan el brillo de los ojos, sonrisas de los bostezos, corazones a los tropiezos y sentimientos. Muere lentamente quien no voltea la mesa cuando está infeliz en el trabajo, quien no arriesga lo cierto por lo incierto para ir detrás de un sueño, quien no se permite por lo menos una vez en la vida, huir de los consejos sensatos. Muere lentamente quien no viaja, quien no lee, quien no oye música, quien no encuentra gracia en si mismo.

Muere lentamente, quien abandona un proyecto antes de iniciarlo, no preguntando de un asunto que desconoce o no respondiendo cuando le indagan sobre algo que sabe. Evitemos la muerte en suaves cuotas, recordando siempre que estar vivo exige un esfuerzo mucho mayor que el simple hecho de respirar. Solamente la ardiente paciencia hará que conquistemos una espléndida felicidad. Sinceramente, José H. Díaz

A new year has just initiated giving us the opportunity to have 365 new blank pages of one more chapter of our life, hopefully we take the opportunity to write only good pages. It is a good moment to think about the year that just ended, enjoy the good things and moments we had, to learn from the mistakes to avoid them, and to make new resolutions about our lives taking the advantage of the opportunity of a new beginning. To share special moments with those we love, and to wish all to ours the prosperity, happiness, love and health that all of us deserve. It is the moment to say good-bye to the negative feelings, the sadness, the unfulfilled promises, the persons that have harmed to us, and to meet all the wonderful possibilities, the dreams, the opportunities. To give welcome to the new hopes, the new resolutions, the new happy moments, new spirit, and new beginning that are manifest in each of us. With good reasoning, our ancestors said: "renew or die". These thoughts were very well summarized by the Brazilian writer Martha Medeiros: He who becomes the slave of habit, who follows the same routines every day, who never changes brand, who does not risk and change the color of his clothes, who does not talk to people he doesn’t know, dies slowly. He who makes television his guru, dies slowly. He or she who shuns passion, who prefers black on white, and the dots on the "i" to a whirlpool of emotions, precisely those that recover the gleam of the eyes, smiles from the yawns, hearts from the stumbling and feelings, dies slowly. He or she who does not turn things topsy-turvy, who is unhappy at work, who does not risk certainty for uncertainty, to thus follow a dream, those who do not forego sound advice at least once in their lives, die slowly. He who does not travel, who does not read,` who can not hear music, who does not find grace in himself, dies slowly.`


He who slowly destroys his self love, who does not allow himself to be helped, who spends days on end complaining about his own bad luck, about the rain that never stops, dies slowly. He or she who abandon a project before starting it, who fail to ask questions on subjects he doesn't know, he or she who don't reply when they are asked something they do know, die slowly. Let's avoid death in small doses, reminding oneself that being alive requires an effort far greater than the simple fact of breathing. Cart Barn Services

1. All stored carts are automatically insured.

2. Staff will bring out and/or return any members cart.

3. Staff checks battery water level in all electric carts stored in the barn every two weeks.

When found to be low, they are filled to the correct level with distilled water. This service is

provided at no extra cost. The maintenance of private carts is the responsibility of the cart owners,

this includes checking battery connections, checking for battery corrosion, checking the air in your

tires, etc.

4. Arrangements can be made to fuel gas carts.

5. A compressor is available to put air in tires.

6. Carts will be cleaned/washed upon request. There is no requirement to pay; some members tip

a few pesos and others don't. If the staff parks your cart, they will sweep it out before parking it

7. Mechanical maintenance/repair for carts and chargers is available through the ProShop. A

diagnosis and estimate will be provided; members must fill out and sign a work order authorizing the

labor and purchase of parts. The work order book is on the counter in the ProShop. Members also

have the option to bring in their own mechanic or have the cart taken to a repair shop, but must

provide staff with identifications of workers and exact times they will be on Club property. All costs

for maintenance/repair are the responsibility of the owner.

FROM THE GREENSKEEPER OFFICE

Cold season has arrived and our turf growth pace has diminished as expected for a warm season turfgrass. We are working to

keep turf density and playability on greens, helping with light and frequent topdressing, vertical mowing and aereations with solid tines.

Turf nutrition on greens is key as well as irrigation management on greens, to avoid too much wáter on greens and the rest of the golf

course.

Wishing you all happy holiday season, I’ll share with you some information on how to handle local rules on a golf course. Enjoy…

Life rarely offers one the option to modify the rules when the conditions warrant. But in golf, there is the option to implement “Local

Rules,” which allow the Committee (in charge of the competition or the course) to apply rules which are not part of the 34 Rules of Golf.

As indicated in Rule 33-8a, Local Rules may be used for abnormal conditions if they are consistent with the policy established in Appendix I

of the Rules of Golf. The abnormal ground conditions that lead to the imposition of Local Rules directly involve the condition of the golf

course, and the superintendent should be included in these decisions. Here are some of the more common Local Rules that apply directly to

the condition of the course.

Environmentally sensitive spaces. Areas that have been identifed as environmentally sensitive, including turf nurseries, may be designated

as Ground Under Repair, from which play is prohibited.

Course conditions — mud, extreme wetness, poor conditions and protection of the course. Several Local Rules can be used to account

for poor playing conditions.

• Embedded ball. This Local Rule allows lifting and cleaning of an embedded ball anywhere “through the green” (includes the whole golf

course except the tee and putting green on the hole the golfer is playing, and all hazards on the course). Without the Local Rule, relief for

an embedded ball is permitted only on closely mown areas of the course.

• Aeration holes. A Local Rule may be in place allowing a ball that has come to rest in an aeration hole to be dropped or placed elsewhere.

That rule does not apply to balls on the putting surface, however.

• Seams of cut turf. This grants relief when the ball itself lies in a sod seam, which interferes with the intended area of swing.

• Preferred Lies. This is also referred to as “lift, clean and place.” The purpose of this Local Rule is to allow fair play and protect the

course. “Winter Rules” refers to the fact that some courses are located in areas that commonly have wet, muddy conditions throughout the

winter. However, Appendix I indicates that the Local Rule should be withdrawn as soon as conditions warrant.

Obstructions. There are times when Local Rules can be used to address movable and immovable obstructions.

• Protection of young trees. This allows relief from stakes and wires used to support Young trees, and from the trees themselves.

• Stones in bunkers. Stones are considered loose impediments, and they normally cannot be moved when the golfer’s ball is in the bunker.

This Local Rule permits stones in bunkers to be treated as movable obstructions.

Dropping zones. Dropping zones are set up when it is not feasible to proceed to take proper relief from immovable obstructions (Rule 24),

abnormal ground conditions (Rule 25), water hazards or lateral water hazards

(Rule 26), or unplayable balls (Rule 28).

Well-intentioned committees sometimes invent Local Rules that aren’t sanctioned by the USGA. Examples include allowing a drop on the side

of a water hazard closest to the green when the ball fails to clear that hazard; allowing the replay of a stroke defected by a sprinkler

head; allowing line-of-sight relief from irrigation control boxes; allowing relief from divot holes; and treating rough as a lateral water

hazard. For more information on Local Rules, see Rule 33-8 and Appendix I of the Rules of Golf. Examples of Local Rules are provided in the

Decisions on the Rules of Golf under Rule 33-8.


DESDE LA OFICINA DEL SUPERINTENDENTE

El frío ha llegado y nuestro césped ha disminuido notablemente su crecimiento. Trabajamos para mantener la densidad y jugabilidad de los

greens, mediante retapes ligeros y frecuentes, cortes verticales y aireaciones con brocas sólidas. La nutrición del césped en estos días fríos,

juega un rol fundamental, así como el manejo del riego, evitando los excesos de humedad tanto en greens, como en el resto del campo.

Deseando que esta navidad y año nuevo hayan sido todo lo que esperaban, les dejo algunos apuntes de cómo se pueden manejar las reglas

locales, en un campo de golf. Que lo disfruten…

Como se indica en la regla 33-8a, las reglas locales se pueden usar para condiciones de juego anormales, si son consistentes con la política

establecida en el apéndice 1 de las Reglas del Golf. Las condiciones atípicas del terreno que conduzcan a imponer reglas locales, involucra

directamente la condición del campo de golf y el superintendente, debiera ser incluido en estas decisiones. Aquí describimos algunas de las

reglas locales más comunes, que aplican directamente en la condición del campo de golf.

Áreas ecológicamente sensibles. Zonas que han sido identificadas como ecológicamente frágiles, incluyendo los viveros de pasto, deben

designarse como áreas en reparación (Ground under repair), donde el juego está prohibido.

Condiciones no propicias – lodo, demasiada humedad o charcos y protección del campo de golf. Algunas reglas locales se pueden aplicar,

para aliviar condiciones pobres de juego.

●Bola empotrada. Esta regla local permitiría levantar y limpiar una bola empotrada en el campo de golf (incluye todo el campo de golf, a

una aireación, pueda ser sujeta de drop o colocarse en otro lugar. Sin embargo, esta regla no aplica sobre la superficie del green.

●Costuras de pasto en rollo. Esta regla permite levantar la pelota, cuando la pelota cae en la orilla de un corte de pasto en rollo, lo que

interfiere con la posible zona de swing.

●Acomodo de la bola. Esto también se conoce como “levantar, limpiar y colocar”. El propósito de esta regla local, es permitir un juego parejo,

además de proteger el campo de golf. Las “reglas de invierno”, se refieren al hecho de que algunos campos de golf se localizan en áreas

donde, comúnmente, tienen condiciones lodosas y de mucha humedad durante el invierno. Sin embargo, el Apéndice 1 indica que la regla local

deberá ser eliminada, tan pronto como las condiciones del campo lo permitan.

Obstrucciones. Hay ocasiones en que las reglas locales pueden aplicarse, para controlar el efecto de obstrucciones fijas y movibles.

●Protección de árboles jóvenes. Esto permite mover la bola y alejarla de alambres y estacas, usados para proteger árboles pequeños.

●Piedras en bunkers. Las piedras se consideran como impedimentos sueltos y, generalmente, no pueden ser movidos cuando la pelota del

golfista cae dentro del bunker. Esta regla local permite que las piedras se consideren como obstrucciones movibles.

Áreas de “dropping”. Los zonas de “dropping”, se crean para continuar el juego cuando no se puede tirar desde un obstáculo fijo (Regla 24),

condiciones del campo anormales (Regla 25), obstáculos de agua (Regla 26) o bolas que simplemente no se puedan jugar (Regla 28).

A veces, algunos comités bien intencionados, se inventan reglas locales que no están autorizadas por la USGA. Algunos ejemplos incluyen,

permitir un drop en la orilla más cercana al green de un obstáculo de agua, cuando la pelota no cruzó dicho obstáculo; permitir otro tiro al

Our best wishes to you all for a happy 2016; may you enjoy a year of good health and good golf. Plans are in the beginning stages for the 2016 version of THE AMIGO CUP. We look forward to our fourth tournament, an event which has been well supported by the membership of the Country Club de Chapala. It is the only fund raiser held each year to sustain our KIDS AND THEIR FUTURE Fund. Our members show up ready to play, to enjoy the other activities surrounding the tournament and to offer their generous support. The date of THE 2016 AMIGO CUP is March 17th. We will build on the success of our past events but with a new wrinkle or two this year.

Nuestros mejores deseos a Uds. para un feliz 2016; ojala que distruten un ano de buena salud y buen golf. Estamos empezando con planes para LA COPA AMIGO de 2016. Anticipamos con placer nuestro cuarto torneo, un evento muy bien apoyado por la membrecia del Country Club de Chapala. Es la unica recaudacion del ano para sostener el fondo de KIDS AND THEIR FUTURE. Cada ano nuestros miembros se presentan listos para jugar al golf y tambien para disfrutar las otras actividades alrededor del torneo y para ofrecer su apoyo generoso. La fecha de LA COPA AMIGO 2016 es el 17 de Marzo. Vamos a continuar en el estilo de nuestros eventos de exito del pasado pero con una o dos ideas nuevas este ano.

In this month’s Tee Talk, we are proud to feature our recent university graduate, Luis Antonio Aceves, son of Antonio Aceves. We will let Luis speak for himself in his excellent English by sharing a letter he wrote to the KIDS AND THEIR FUTURE Committee to express his appreciation for the financial help he received from the Country Club members while he was attending the University of Guadalajara:

I just want to say hello, my name is Luis Aceves. I am Antonio Aceves’ son and first of all I am very thankful because you have helped me since I started college or as we say in Mexico, the University of Guadalajara.

My father and my whole family are thankful with you not only for your support but also because you have trusted me even though you have never met me yet.

I’ve already finished the University but I am still attending there because I need to do a special test to get my Master’ degree. I also need to wait until sometime in December to get it.

I don’t have more words just thanks to all the people whom are helping to KIDS AND THEIR FUTURE Fund. God bless you.
