Invented by Nicholas Otto in the late 1800’s
In 1886, Karl Benz invents the first automobile.
In 1887, Gottlieb Daimler invents the first four wheeled automobile.
In the early 1900’s Henry Ford began mass producing automobiles
using the assembly line.

The Model T Ford cruised at 25 miles per hour. The United States was the leader in automobile production.
Air Travel
In 1903, two American bicycle makers, Orville and Wilbur Wright designed and flew the first plane.
Commercial passenger travel would not begin until the 1920’s.
Rapid Communication
Communication: a process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols, signs, or behavior.
In 1844, Samuel Morse developed the telegraph, which could send coded messages over wires by
means of electricity.

In the 1860’s, a transatlantic telegraph cable linked the United States and Europe.
