The Flint Hills Discovery Center is excited to host a teacher workshop Discovering Archaeology in the Flint Hills, which will provide training in two Kansas Project Archaeology curricular units, The Archaeology of Early Agriculture in Kansas and The Archaeology of Wichita Indian Shelter in Kansas. These multi-disciplinary units address Common Core Standards and complement the exhibits in the Flint Hills Discovery Center. The workshop will be led by professional archaeologist Lauren W. Ritterbush and educator Brad Burenheide, trained facilitators of the national and state Project Archaeology program. The workshop, funded in part through a Historic Preservation Fund grant administered by the Kansas Historical Society, will provide teachers of grades 3 through 8 with engaging educational resources relevant to Kansas and archaeological stewardship. Teachers will learn about the early native peoples of the Flint Hills and gain hands-on experience that can be easily transferred to the classroom. When and where will the workshop be held? When: Friday, February 1 & Saturday, February 2 Time Commitment: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Attendance required for both days.) Where: Flint Hills Discovery Center, 315 S. 3rd Street , Manhattan, KS How much will this cost?
