St. Peter’s Episcopal
School News May 2017
Love of Learning
Parishioners are invited to the 5th graders’ Wax Museum to be held on Wednesday,
May 10. After researching and writing biographies on persons that have made a
positive impact on the world, students created a storyboard on the computer high-
lighting important events in the person’s life. On May 10, students will pose as the
researched person. As visitors come through the museum they will be able to push
a button to activate the "statue" to come to life and tell about himself or herself.
Joy of Service
This month’s outreach project continues to focus on service to the earth. Students
will provide items for Wildlife Wanderland at the Reflection Riding Arboretum &
Nature Center. Wildlife Wanderland cares for animals that have been affected by hu-
mans in such a way that they can’t survive on their own in the wild. Additionally,
third through fifth grades will work to spruce up grounds and nature/hiking trails
during their Trailwise classes.
A Lively Faith
The fun won’t stop when the school year ends! St. Peter’s School will host eight
weeks of summer excitement. Camp Discovery is open to the public as well as our
current students, ages 3 through fifth grade. Each themed week will incorporate
activities for children to act, cook, dance, build, and create. To join us this summer,
contact the school office at 423-870-1794.

Primetimers Group
“Primetimers” is the name for a group of our retired
parishioners who come together once a month for fellowship, ed-
ucation, and outreach. Meetings this year have included a perfor-
mance from the St. Peter’s School choir, a guest from the Chatta-
nooga Theatre Centre, and in April, the Rev. John Talbird spoke
to the group about Falling Upward, a book by Richard Rohr
about spirituality for the two halves of life.
The group meets on the third Friday of the month. This
month’s gathering, set for May 19, will be the last one until meet-
ings resume in September.
This group is in need of four or five willing members to
help plan new outings and share ideas for fellowship and out-
reach. If you can help in this way, please contact Father Bonner
and let’s get started!

Calling All Gardeners!
Your help is needed in our beautiful cutting garden outside the back entrance
to the church offices. If you can give a few hours each month to this ministry,
please contact Lucy Robinson or call the church office at 877-2428.
Update from the Search Committee
Thanks for your continued prayers, support, and encouragement as the
Search Committee continues our work. Thank you, too, for respecting the
important confidentiality that is necessary during these steps. There is much
activity happening, and we are moving forward. The committee is excited be
moving ever closer to the time when we can share more distinct news.

Westside Egg Hunt
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt with the Westside Com-
munity was a huge success. We hid over 500 eggs to be
found, and all attendees gathered for a reception follow-
ing the hunt!
ChattEY
In April, ChattEY met at St. Timothy’s on Signal Mountain for a Palm
Party! We spent the evening with youth groups from all over Chattanooga
playing games and enjoying fellowship. We closed the evening with a
Palm Sunday service including a senior send-off and a 5th grade welcome.
ChattEY will resume in August.
Congratulations Seniors!
St. Peter’s Youth has several seniors graduating this May: Kendall Farr
and Ethan Steele (Red Bank High School), Jennifer Brockman (GPS), and
Sinnamon Williams (Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy). All of
these students have truly stepped up and become leaders within this parish
and the greater Chattanooga community. I am so proud of the individuals
they have become and cannot wait to see what their future holds. Senior
Recognitions will take place on Sunday, May 7, during the 11am ser-
vice. Please come out and show your support for our seniors.

straight from the golf course or the lake, or stop by on your way to a
Saturday evening outing. Come as you are – all ages are welcome!
No more missing church because you have other plans on
Sundays. Not a morning person? Let’s give this a try and see how it
goes. Saturday evenings in June.

A Note from the Interim Rector
Dear Parish Family:
It has been a pleasure being your Rector for the past 9 months. It is an excit-ing time for St. Peter’s as we get closer to calling our new Rector. Please con-tinue to pray as the Search Committee closes in on the “one” for us.
Easter was a grand celebration for St. Peter’s. We had outstanding attendance, which is a mark of our future, and many members who have not been attend-ing came to join us in worship. As you looked around during the services, who did you see that you need to be in touch with about their future and St. Pe-ter’s future? As I read First Peter each day in the season of Easter, I am re-minded of the leader of the disciples, who just days before the Resurrection had been distraught by his “denials,” stepping up to proclaim the good news and begin the process of building the church.
Yesterday I had a doctor’s appointment and the check-in nurse is a person I have gotten to know, so I asked her, “Did you attend Church on Easter Sun-day?” We have had several discussions about finding a church and I brought up the subject with her again. She said she had been at home with her family in another city and the family attended the home church. I said how im-portant that was and gave her recommendations here, including St. Peter’s. The “call” to proclaim is to bring up the subject of faith and talk about the lessons for Sunday and how Jesus always is in the “proclamation mode” and we, as the Baptized, are to also be in that mode, just like Peter after his total collapse. Jesus always says, “Peace be with you,” and that means, “All is well, so now lets get on with the ever living message of faith.”
There are over 200 entries in our most recent Parish Directory. All of you have a copy of this document (and if you do not, let me know). Please sit down often and peruse its pages and whenever the thought arises, “I wonder what _____ is up to? I miss him/her,” you should pick up the phone and IN-VITE that person/family to come to St. Peter’s again. Trauma and discourage-ment are part-and-parcel of our lives, and faith is that affirming word that says, “This is not final,” and so we get up, dust ourselves off, and follow Peter’s example to “Proclaim the Good News of God in Christ.” Remember: “Nothing separates us from the love of God” and it is up to us daily to affirm this message.
In his name, John B.
