Greetings All! Well our timing of this event/meeting couldn’t have been better; a week after and it would have been cancelled. Once again, our New Member Breakfast and Annual Spring Membership Meeting was a huge success; despite Covid-19 ! This year, Frank and Teresa Campbell took on both the breakfast, where Frank cooked up his famous beer batter pancakes and Teresa made her delicious sausage, egg and cheese casserole. Oh, my goodness was it delicious! The turnout was good and everyone raved about breakfast and enjoyed the opportunity to meet some of our newest members and catch up with old friends. Dinner before the membership meeting was another huge treat by Frank and Teresa, Frank’s special Cajun styled Red Beans and Rice with lots of kielbasa. Because this dish can be a little spicy for some, Frank made a milder version for folks with a sensitive palate, and a separate batch for those who like theirs hot and spicy! As is typical for SYC’ers, there were plenty of sides and desserts to satisfy most every taste. I think most people preferred Frank’s spicy version; I know I did. Many of us were also lucky enough to have some bagged up for us to take back to our boats and enjoy later. Kudo’s to Frank and Teresa Campbell! Everything was perfect! The meeting was pretty much our typical annual spring membership meeting; a lot of information crammed into the shortest time possible. Afterall, who wants to hear me drone on about boring stuff? Heck, if you’re still reading this, it makes you one of the diehard SYC’ers, or you’re simply bored being stuck sheltering in place at home! I suspect the most important issue to most is an update on the re-roofing of the flat roof ( bar, kitchen & restrooms). At the time of the meeting, the work was not yet complete. However, the weather ultimately cooperated, and it is thankfully now complete. Long story short, we can put that project behind us and begin on the other items on our punch list such as, bar remodel, dance floor refinishing, new carpeting, recover the chairs, cleaning/repairing and re-staining the deck, exterior paint and kitchen appliance updates as funds are available. Beyond routine maintenance, these updates are integral to our ability to continue offering a facility that is desirable as an event venue. Having seen a drop in last year’s rentals for a few reasons, we are continuing to focus on improving those numbers and increasing rental revenues. These rental revenues greatly subsidize overall costs of membership and reduce the need to charge higher dues. The bottom line is we will have a nicer facility for our members! This will soon be over, and life will return to normal. Until then; Let’s protect ourselves, our families and our friends! Stay safe! Stay home ! Maintain social distancing! Wash your hands! See you soon!

Vice Commodores Log

Hi gang,

I hope all is going well for you all. Last month I said we were getting closer to our

cruising season, well I had no idea we were going to be cruising on our couches

Dreaming about being out on the water. We did get out on the water last weekend over

to Cypress Head, and what a nice weekend that was. We even came across a couple SYC

friends and kept our social distance as we visited.

This is a great opportunity to try out new recipes for on the dock appetizers since most of

us are stuck at home, so I will be excited to see what all of you guys come up with. I have been brewing

beer, so I will have a few flavors to sample.

As for boating we have been doing a few boat projects, some unexpected (a bad shore power cord) and

some not. We have been replacing our vinyl windows as weather permits. I guess this is a great opportunity

to get a few boat projects off the list. If any of you have completed your boat project list, my boat is in

Shelter Bay and can use a good waxing, I promise to keep 6 feet away.

We were getting things prepared for the opening day event in May, but that is currently on hold as most

other Yacht Clubs have canceled their event. We will update by E-mail in the next couple of weeks on the

status of the event.

We sure miss everybody, stay safe and see you soon.

April, 2020

Ahoy SYC … !

April Shower Bring May Flowers … and the Corona Virus! It is wreaking havoc not only with

Our home/work lives but now our boating lives! And now, we have been officially asked by

the state to extend the “Stay Home/Stay Healthy” through at least the end of April. That said,

we have officially cancelled the annual Clubhouse Clean-up/Shake-down Cruise this coming

weekend, April 4th & 5th . I don’t have to tell you that this was a decision I didn’t want to

make, but it is our responsibility to keep our communities and our club safe.

In the meantime, why not take advantage of the opportunity to get some of those much needed boat projects done?

Or map out your upcoming summer cruise and check out some new anchorages. It would also be a good time, while

you’re doing your own spring cleaning projects at home, to look through some of your tried and true recipes and

send them on to Wendy Britt for the SYC cookbook that she is organizing. For more information about the cookbook

and where to send those great recipes and/or any helpful “cooking on the water” tips, contact Wendy via email at:

[email protected] It would be so awesome to see this come together!

While our 2020 cruising season is on hold for the time being, Jeff and I will be dreaming about all those gorgeous

sunny summer days out on the hook. So “Stay Home Stay Safe” and healthy and make the most of all this time we

find on our hands. Soon we will all be out there again!!!

To your health,

Cryss. Toycen
