VISION

SUNY Cortland’s long and storied athletics history has helped it to become one of the nation’s most respected NCAA Division III

institutions. Although our tradition of excellence began more than a century ago, our visual identity has evolved over time, adapting

to changes in culture and technology. This style guide is intended to ensure that the College’s identity is consistently presented

across all applications, strengthening the iconic Cortland brand by positioning it for the future.

The athletics logo may be used only for visual communications pertaining to athletics, alumni engagement and student recruitment.

Use of the athletics logo must be approved by the SUNY Cortland Marketing Committee in conjunction with the Athletics Department.

PRIMARY LOGOThe primary logo is recognizednationally as the symbol of Cortlandathletics and serves as its mainidentifier.

SECONDARY LOGOThe secondary logo is a newapplication that offers a morecontemporary and flexible option foridentifying SUNY Cortland athletics.It is not to be used as a stand-alonemark, but in conjunction with Cortlandathletics’ primary wordmark.

PRIMARY MARKThe primary wordmark can standalone as shown or the word Cortland can be arched. Red Dragons or a sportmark can be added, but must remainstraight and run below Cortland.Thiswordmark can be used in conjunctionwith both the primary and secondarylogos when Cortland is arched. It mustalways be presented using Superstarfont, reproduced in red or white on ared, white or grey background, with orwithout an outline.

SECONDARY MARKThe secondary wordmark can standalone as shown or be used inconjunction with both the primary andsecondary logos. The word Cortlandmust always be presented using Superstar font while Red Dragonsor a sport mark must be in Jersey font. The marks must be reproduced in redor white on a red, white or greybackground, with or without an outline.

PRIMARY LOCK-UPSWhen using the primary logo withwordmarks, there are three options:

• Arch the Cortland wordmark over theprimary logo and run a secondarywordmark below the logo. In thisusage, all wordmarks must be inSuperstar font.

• Run the Cortland wordmark belowthe primary logo, with a secondarywordmark below it. In this usage, theCortland wordmark must be in Super-star font and the secondary wordmarkmust be in Jersey font.

• Run a sport word mark alone withthe primary logo. In this usage, thewordmark must be in Superstar font.

INCORRECT USAGES

DO’S AND DON’TSVarious incorrect usages are displayedhere. Use this page as a referencewhen creating new designs thatincorporate any of SUNY Cortland’slogos and/or wordmarks.

At no time should anything(other logos,type, etc.) beplaced over the identityelements

1. Graphic elements shouldnot be modified, stretchedor distorted in any way.

2. Do not crop the logos in any way.3.

Logos should not be tiltedor rotated.

4. 5. 6.Logos should not be used incolor combinations otherthan those specifically refer-enced out in the style guide.

Sport wordmarks cannot standalone with the secondary logo.

The logos cannot be placedon backgrounds other thanred, white and grey.

7. 8. 9.Arched lock-ups must bedisplayed using onlySuperstar M54 font.

At no time should additionalgraphics be added to the logos.
