Dear Students,

June 26, 2015. A day never to be forgotten, a day to forever change the way we perceive the world around us... A day that rewrote our history... Pause with me for a second and think. A human being has found it within himself to enter a mosque, during Friday Prayers, during the holy month of Ramadan and kill innocent lives! How? Brainwashed? Brainwashed... What a scary concept... What a scary concept when we know that most people are susceptible to brainwashing, especially when they are young, when they are confused and weak, when they are in need... Pause with me and think. How many times have you been confused in your life? Felt weak? Felt a need to find a meaning to your existence? Felt a need to belong to an entity bigger than yourself? Well June 26, 2015 is the day that should stop all your confusion and clear your mind and heart forever. If you want a meaning to your life, then building Kuwait and playing a positive role, no matter how small, should be your meaning. If you need to belong, belong to Kuwait, in all its diversity, in all its unity, in all its modernism, in all its traditions, in all its openness and in all its heritage. My students, the Arab world is being invaded with hatred, what will you do? Everyone talks politics these days like they have studied history or political science or have done their PhDs in human rights and judicial law, but if you listen carefully it is not politics they speak! They speak of divide, planting the seeds of distrust, of destruction. My students, what will you do? My students you have a great responsibility today! You have to take June 26 and rewrite your history! say nO. No to anyone who tries to divide you.No to anyone who tries to pull you into a political debate. No to anyone who tries to buy your allegiance with empty promises of a better tomorrow. No to anyone who sanctions destruction or chaos. And say Yes my students, say Yes. Say yes to studying.Say yes to working.Say yes to earning your salary no matter how small or big it may be.Say yes to cleaning your shores.Say yes to extending a hand to the needy.Say yes to exploring your talents. Say yes... Say yes we are PROUD to be Kuwaiti, and we are nothing BUT Kuwaiti,no religion nor sect defines us,but the love of our God,our countryand our leader. June 26, 2015... don’t ever forget this day... Take this tragedy and turn it into the greatest victory... The victory of unity, the victory of love, the victory of respect... the victory of being kuwaiti! Ps: I am a Lebanese who has chosen Kuwait as my second home and I am appealing to you from all my heart and every cell of my being, please, I beseech you, do not allow politics to do to you what it has already done to Lebanon... Bless you and bless Kuwait,

It’s 14 years since we published our first issue, and now every month STUDENTALK reaches over 50,000 students in print, (verified by PARC and IPSOS studies), and 30,000 online. We’ve long been ranked as the #1 student magazine in Kuwait, and we’re proud to say that we still hold the top spot and remain the only magazine that has direct interaction with students – a fact that gives us a unique insight in to how they think.

tell us a little about yourselfMy name is Yousef Al-Nasser and I’m 20-years old studying Journalism/ Communications at AUK. I’m crazy about many different types of arts such as photography, music, and even dancing! I’m half Kuwaiti and half Italian but have been living in Kuwait my whole life. I really hope that I can venture out into the world and take more photos.

How is it being a part of the music scene in kuwait? It’s fun! You get to mix with many different people that like different kinds of music. It’s a little difficult to find that usually but with things such as Bayt Lothan and Cee Kuwait, you are getting to meet different groups of people and are able to learn from one another. It’s wonderful overall.

How is your experience with One World actors Centre?I have been acting with the director, Alison Price, since I was 5-years-old! We have been with each other throughout everything here. It has been incredible working with them in regards to the shows that we put on and the reactions that we get.

What made you venture into photography?I’m not certain what exactly triggered me to like photography. Like many others, I took pictures on my phone regularly but then I realized that, if I took some time with it, I can take better photos! I purchased my first camera and took photos while it’s been 2-3 years. I am now also a food photographer for restaurants. Thanks to the help of looking at other photographers such as Ansel Adams who is incredible!

do you feel that photography helps you express yourself more?Well, it’s different. What is expressed in each art differs; Music allows me to work on emotions while drama helps me escape reality for a little bit. Photography allows me to express what I see of the world that others don’t see. When I take pictures in Kuwait of certain things, I try to put a perspective on it to make everyone see the beautiful side of the country.

singing, songwriting, acting, dancing… Is there anything that Yousef can’t do? Well, we know that it definitely isn’t photography! He has taken yet another gift of his to a new level and we get to sit with this multi-talented man to see how things have been for him recently.

the american university of kuwait (auk) hosted the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2015at the kuwait International Fairgrounds in Mishref on thusday 11 June, where 315students officially became auk graduates. the ceremony was attended by shaikha dana nasser sabah al-ahmed al-sabah, Founder and Chair of auk, along with members of the auk Board of trustees, diplomats, dignitaries, and the families and friends of this year’s graduates.

Ms. Amal Al-Binali, Vice President for Admissions and Public Affairs, welcomed the guests and family members of the graduates to AUK’s 10th graduation ceremony and officially commenced the ceremony by announcing the traditional faculty processional.

The Class of 2015 followed the faculty processional into the hall. The faculty of the College of Arts & Sciences were led by the Associate Dean of the College, Dr. Ali Charara, the faculty of the College of Business & Economics are led by Prof. Rafiqul Bhuyan, Chair of the Department of Finance in the College of Business and Economics, and the students were led by the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Hanan Muzaffar.

The President’s party was led by the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, Dr. Rawda Awwad, bearer of the University mace - a symbol of protection for the University President. She was followed by H.E Nabeela Al-Mulla, Associate Dean for Accreditation in the College of Business and Economics, Dr. Marcelline Fusilier, AUK’s Registrar, Dr. Pierre Murr, Chief Information Officer, Mr. Rusty Bruns and AUK President, Dr. Nizar Hamzeh.

Following the processional, graduates and guests were asked to rise for the National Anthem, which was followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran.

The President introduced this year’s keynote speaker, H.E AmbassadorAl-Mulla, a Representative to NATO, and Former Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Brussels, Luxembourg, and the European Union, who is also a Former Honorary Member of the AUK Board of Trustees, and invited her to the stage to deliver her keynote address.

H.E Ambassador Al-Mulla, in her keynote address to the students, explained to them that receiving their degrees marked not only

an ending of a phase, but a beginning of a new one, and advised them to be honest with themselves and to cast away self-doubt. “Reflect on your decisions, seek advice, but be decisive. Do not agonize over changing tracks if you realize that path is not for you to follow.

Your path, even with its detours, is a process of life - like a game of Snakes and Ladders, with its ups and downs. Success and achievements are not take-out orders. Remember that at the end of the day, you have yourself to contend with your integrity and self-satisfaction within,” she said.

H.E Ambassador Al-Mulla also reminded the graduates that although they possess their degrees and the skies seem limitless, they must maintain strong roots in the ground. “Yes, you have earned wings, but remember too that you have roots that need to be strengthened and nurtured. You shall embrace the ‘global village’, but your roots remain at home, with your family and your community. They are your life line; ever present, ever embracing. Be true to them as you remain true to yourself; all inclusive as an achiever,” she said.

The event then proceeded to the part of the ceremony that the graduates have been anticipating; the distribution of their earned degrees. The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Rawda Awwad, recommended the conferral of degrees for the graduates of the College of Arts & Sciences, while Associate Dean for Accreditation in the College of Business and Economics, Dr. Marcelline Fusilier, recommended the conferral of degrees for the graduates of the College of Business and Economics, to President Hamzeh, who then conferred upon the graduates their respective degrees. The graduates were then awarded their bachelor’s degree diplomas by Dr. Hamzeh, H.E Ambassador Nabeela Al-Mulla, Dr. Rawda Awwad, and Dr. Marcelline Fusilier.

''I Will Survive''By Wala'a Moussa

Summer is basically here and, as a student, I have one of two choices: vacation or summer classes. The beach, sun and sand or Quick Copy, classes and finals. The decision is not as easy as it looks. Having Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” on replay in my head, I’m writing this ‘not so happy’ article. Since I’m graduating this summer (hallelujah!) I have to do two internships and take a class to be able to graduate this year. When you think of it that way, the decision becomes 10 times harder.

My decision was to take summer, obviously since I’m writing this article as part of my Internship for STUDENTALK. After four long years of suffering, studying and working on projects you would think all I need is the beach but it’s really just graduating and getting this over with. But, then again, of course I always have my way of making myself feel better.

Come on, if I don’t make myself feel better who will? So the process of ‘making Walaa feel better about taking two summer blocks is long, continuous and actually fun’. So basically other than the girly tiny stuff such as getting myself a pedicure, manicure and a lot of shopping, planning an outing every now and then, meeting friends who are here for vacation and friends I don’t usually get to see would be a good change. Tanning and gatherings are two primary things to survive these few weeks without going crazy. It’s all about the company not the place; so as long I’m surrounded by family and good friends I will survive, I will survive…

So a little advice from a suffering soul: it’s all going to be worth it at the end of it all. You give and take so I’m giving this summer to myself and getting a better summer soon to myself as well. Studying and working might not be the ideal way to spend summer but getting the reward for all the hard work is for sure worth it.

the main question of the summer arises as we all wonder where we should go and spend our summer holidays. london? Paris? new York? Well, there are many places that we can go but there are also some gorgeous destinations that don’t usually cross our minds! Here are some places that are definitely worth the visit!

Great Summer Destinations''Traveling tends to Magnify all Human Emotions''

Malaga, spainSpain is one of the places that people usually love to visit but Malaga may not always be a top priority. This summer, it should be! With their new Art Museum, “The Cube”, being built there, there is a lot to see! In addition, Malaga also offers great nightlife, food, shopping destinations, and many other things to keep you busy while you’re there. You simply cannot go wrong with this choice!

konstanz, GermanyYou may have been to Germany before, but you have not seen it all if you didn’t take the opportunity to visit Konstanz! It is a University city located at the western end of Lake Constance in the south-west corner of Germany. You can make your way around by bike and enjoy the beautiful weather near the lake and soak in some of the sun while tanning there as well! The small city has a lot to offer and you won’t find any moment of boredom there.

Victoria, australiaNot a big fan of the heat? Well, that shouldn’t stop you from going on vacation and Victoria, Australia may actually be the place for you! The resorts available offer a wide range of snow activities such as dog sled rides, skiing, snowboarding, and others while staying at places such as Mount Hotham, which is known to be the “powder capital” of Australia! Melbourne is close-by as well and you can take a break from all the snow to pass by there and visit some of their great malls and participate in the many activities offered!

essaouira, MoroccoEssaouira isn’t a place that is frequently visited mainly because it used to be a hassle getting there since you will have to go through Marrakech first before taking a ride there for approximately two-hours. Now, they have been able to make it easier, especially if you plan to travel there from the UK. Souks, restaurants with breathtaking views, and beautiful beaches are all there for you to guarantee having a vacation that you will never forget!

Machu Picchu, PeruMake the trip through the Sacred Valley of the Inca to the ancient city of Machu Picchu in Peru. To protect the integrity of this route, only 500 government-issued Inca Trail permits are issued per day and they go fast! This should not discourage you from making the trip though as you can also take any of their alternate routes such as trains or buses. This destination is highly recommended for anyone who feels like going on a memorable and intriguing adventure this summer!

Making Kuwait Proud Local Artists

Carol Souki A talk with the Songstress

Carol souki has taken the country by storm with her magnificent voice and beautiful shows. studentalk was able to sit with her and see how she has been able to become the person that she is today.

If you had to choose an artist that you look up to, who would it be?I would have to go with Whitney Houston, she has been through a lot and her power is unbelievable. I also have to mention Beyonce because of her dedication and her ‘fierce’ drive. Lyrically, I like Jill Scott. There are many different artists with different things about them that I personally look up to.

What are your future plans? My main goal is to finish the album because I would love to move to Europe or Dubai, wherever there is an opportunity. I don’t want to go empty handed so every gig I do is a build-up for me to reach my goal. Furthermore, I’m hoping to release a video this summer.

any last words for the readers?Follow me on social media and, if you have a passion for the arts, go for it. I’m a music teacher and am always up for supporting the kids. Don’t let things stop your dreams and go for what you believe in and the message that you want to send to the people.

tell us more about yourselfMy name is Carol Souki and I’m Venezuelan/Lebanese. I was raised in Venezuela until I was 9-years-old and then moved to Kuwait until I finished high school. I was in talent shows at AIS and was able to get a lot of training through that. After graduating, I went to Berklee College of Music and my major was in Music Therapy, which focuses on working with people that have issues and use music to help them heal or relax. It was a great experience and you meet so many people as you learn different skills and other techniques from them with time.

since you began, how do you feel your music journey has developed?I was able to build connections with musicians in the States and Middle East. I have collaborated on their tracks and some artists are collaborating in my album. I have worked with a variety of talented local musicians in private and public venues in Kuwait. Outlaw Productions has been working with me on production mixing and mastering my tracks.

When are you planning to release your album?Hopefully in the Fall since I’m planning to go to Bahrain and sit with my producer for a while so that we can finalize everything. I’m also trying to promote my original work whenever I have gigs while I have released one of my singles on SoundCloud. The album will be focused in English mostly R&B with hints of Latin and Middle Eastern rythms and language.

do you see yourself as a solo artist later in your career or would you like to be part of a band?I am a solo artist and have been collaborating with artists within the Middle East and the United States. For this album, I’m hoping to collaborate with Daffy, Flipperaci, Arabique, Omar Afuni, and others. I want to be my own artist but I am always open to collaborations.

What music inspires you most?It depends on my mood. I have a weakness for R&B/Soul like Jill Scott, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye. Also, I enjoy Latin music from people like Marc Anthony and Celia Cruz. As for Arabic, I really connect with Fairouz.

The ProdigyA Talk with Rayan Abdel Baki

He was introduced to us as a prodigy and a wizard! a mind captivated by philosophy and science, and at the very young age of 15, he has already published two poetry books and is working on a neuro-scientific hypothesis. How could that be? Who is he? studentalk set about to find out.

tell us a little bit about yourself I am a 15-year-old Lebanese student at BSK. Poetry ignites me whilst science drives me forward. My interests include neuroscience, which is what I want to go into in the future. I am into destroying pseudoscience, debating controversially, graphic design, acting and obviously poetry. I write in a manner in which I let the reader piece his own title for each poem him/herself, as most of my work is untitled. Hence the name of my upcoming anthology: “An Untitled Pen” – a Pen that belongs to no one. It’s for everyone. A poetry style that is simultaneously prose.

What made you get into poetry?Poetry is the art of expression when expressionless. Simply when I couldn’t be the pen of my own story, poetry was.

Who has guided you when beginning this journey?Nejoud Al Yagout – poet of the book ‘This is An Imprint’ who is my mentor. She guided me towards many opportunities. Furthermore, I thank my parents for believing in me.

tell us more about your upcoming book “an untitled Pen”.‘Words from the Sky’ was written when I was 13 and I was quite naïve; it is no longer me. ‘An Untitled Pen’ began when I was 15-years-old and is more philosophical, where I create a parallel universe with words.

The despair and darkness is only the icing on the cake; a sensitive eye is required to piece the puzzle from my work. The poems in the new book are mostly untitled, and I leave it for the reader to title his/her own story that s/he pieces from my work. A reader does not have to accept the title. The poetry is universal and the title meaning behind ‘An Untitled Pen’ means it is a pen that does not belong to

anyone. It isn’t mine. I might be the author but you are the story teller. I aim for my poems to be a combination of both prose and poetry - in poetry form and this is the form I used.

Also with my passion for mathematics, biotechnology, neuroscience, computer science and physics, and my work in my hypothesis, I began to be a humanist and aspiring scientist, meaning I look at everything from a scientific point of view. My debates are controversial; you can ask my family! I hope in the near future that the world will become more open-minded and understand something before classifying it as controversial.

What type of poetry interests you the most?Abstract. Untitled. Free verse. Insightful. Dark.

Who do you look up to for inspiration?Scientists around the world, especially Jacob Barnett, the 17 year old autistic PhD astrophysicist. He shows me that a teenager can do wonders starting at anytime.

What are your other interests?Debating, studying neuroscience and scientific research, working on a bio-maths hypothesis that I was busy with for three years, destroying pseudoscience, being a humanist, acting and daring to dream.

anything else that you would like to add for our readers?Become the pen in my book. Dare to dream. It is yours. It does not belong to anyone. Live.

Well, as you can see for yourself, surely this young mind is not on a typical journey, With his passion and obvious focus and determination, only time will tell what he will be able to achieve. STUDENTALK shall follow his path to document his imprints...

forward to having an opportunity like that one day soon to see how far I can possibly go with this. In Kuwait, it’s really nice to have the chill type of night like we see abroad sometimes but, unfortunately, there isn’t much of that here.

Who supported your talent?Every single one of my friends has supported me through this journey and continue to do so unconditionally. I am eternally thankful to all of them for pushing me and helping me through it all.

did you encounter any obstacles?I was my biggest obstacle. I used to be introverted for the longest time and this change that I made has really boosted my confidence. I faced my fears about people judging or thinking that I’m not good enough. I decided to do it for me, and I’m glad for taking this chance.

any last words for the readers? If you have something that you love to do, share it with the world. The creative part of Kuwait isn’t as nurtured in terms of the arts or anything is not as out there as it should be, people hide it. You are amazing; showcase and be proud of your work.

Will win the ''Most Talented''

tell us more about yourselfMy name is Shahla Akbar and I am 24 years old. I study Communications at the American University of Kuwait and am looking forward to what the future holds for me!

What is your talent?I simply love to sing just for singing! I used to sing all my life in the shower but I never went out in public. As a kid, I always wanted to participate in concerts and other shows. Growing up, I never took it very seriously but now I have decided to change that and take every opportunity that comes my way!

How did you develop your talent?Three years ago, I took a music course because I thought it would be fun and decided to try the guitar. Initially, it was really difficult but I was one of the more eager students because I never stopped playing. Three years down the road I kept playing and continue to improve. I play in order to back myself up. I love playing unusual covers of songs mostly.

What are your future plans?I would love to participate in these open-mic nights but I never got into the public. I look

Who supported your talent? My friends and family. They push me whenever I feel like quitting or lose hope.

did you encounter any obstacles?I was stuck for a while and did not feel any motivation or inspiration. I constantly kept thinking that there was no more room for improvement but every time I used to watch other singers on YouTube or any TV shows, I felt like I had to get up and start practicing again.

any last words for the readers?Don’t let anyone bring you down. There will be a lot of obstacles in pursuing what you want to achieve. If you believe in what you do and you love it, then go for it.

tell us more about yourselfMy name is Ghita Mohammed and I am 19 years old. I am currently studying Business Marketing at the Arab Open University. My journey with music started at a very young age and music plays a big part in influencing and shaping me as an individual. as an accounting student, you might be wondering if you need to spend the extra time and effort to earnyour CPa license. “Can’t I make a decent living as an accountant?” Well, sure. But the CPa is a professional credential — much like a lawyer’s J.d. or a scientist’s Phd — that sets you up for a different career. Here’s why.

CPA: three life-altering lettersHow the CPA license puts you on a different career path

CPA = more opportunity. Having the CPA credential behind your name proves that your skills are up-to-date and relevant to today’s business challenges. That simple fact opens doors for you to move up the ranks to partner or CFO—or do something completely different, like run a non-profit, teach at a college or be a financial planner. The license enables you to go in any direction you want.

CPA = higher salary.According to the 2015 Robert Half Salary Guide for Accounting & Finance, you’ll make 5-15% more money throughout your career if you have a CPA license. Period.

CPA = job security. CPAs are consistently ranked as one of the nation’s most recession-proof careers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an estimated 166,700 new accounting and auditing jobs will be created by 2022—a 13.1% growth rate. Accounting is essential to business no matter how the economy is doing—and CPAs are the ones running the show.

CPA = more respect. Just like the letters PhD or M.D. equal respect, so does CPA. CPAs are considered trusted financial advisers. In fact, according to a survey conducted by Applied Research & Consulting, LLC, 75% of business decision-makers say they would be more

confident in a job done by a CPA than if it were done by an accountant who is not a CPA.The bottom line: You’ll be trusted with higher-level responsibilities if you’ve earned the credential.

CPA = a competitive edge. When you’re changing jobs—which will probably happen several times in your life—the CPA behind your namewill indicate to potential employers that you’re an expert in your field. And that makes you instant preferred choice over job candidates without the credential.

Nour AlKawass

nour alkawass has been able to get herself into the scene here in kuwait with a bang and it’s only upwards from here! How did she do it? What are her future plans? studentalk finds out all of it as we get the opportunity to have a talk with the creator of GetOut...

tell us a little about yourself and the GetOut BlogMy name is Nour AlKawass and I have a daytime job as a digital strategist at Senyar. I also have a blog called GetOut, which is basically something that I came up with when I moved to Lebanon for a year. I have been into electronic music and street art since 2008 and, when I went there, I got to see the big picture in the music scene. I went there wanting to be a promoter and doing events but the competition there is massive! I came back to Kuwait in 2013 and realized that the art scene in Kuwait is growing, especially with the opening of Art Space. I’m also a very social person and I’m always at events so why not put everything together and create the blog?

What is the meaning behind “GetOut”?If you want to explore something, you need to get out! You cannot sit back and hope that everything comes to you. You need to move and go to these different places and see what’s new that is happening around you. Try something new and dare yourself to reach the places you want to get to in the future.

What is your goal?I want to become one of the famous and well-known event promoters and organizers in the Middle East and maybe even Internationally! I cover many of the events in the Middle East and Europe and you can see all of that in the website itself. GETOUT is my tool to get into the market. After handing the Urban Culture Week that has been supported by Red Bull, things got a lot better and I’m hoping for things to grow from here.

How is kuwait’s music scene in your opinion? When GETOUT came out, it was supposed to focus on my type of electronic music. When I got the chance to meet all these different musicians here and see their work and potential, it was amazing and I chose to also support them because they truly deserve any type of support at all. They have supported me back and I see a lot of potential and I see Kuwait getting a lot better in this aspect. Musicians, songwriters, DJ’s, etc have all been able to show themselves and their capabilities!

How was the training for the race?It was very difficult at the beginning especially since we do not have proper facilities such as a cycling track here in Kuwait. We are trying to train at the correct times and we usually train from September until June as the race is from April until May. We spend approximately 11-15 hours training per week on things such as swimming, biking, running, and strength workout.

How did you feel when you went to the race?Excited, nervous, happy, practically every single feeling! Everything was divided between us and all the strategies were made and agreed on as well. The adrenaline rush was amazing, especially given the fact that we are the first team from the Arab world to participate in the Ironman Triathlon in Port Macquire in Australia!

What do you feel was the most difficult part? For us, it has to be cycling. We do not have hills in Kuwait and we had to cycle on the helicourse with wind, rain, and very rough terrain. The volunteers there were amazing though and extremely inspirational. They didn’t even know us but kept supporting us and treating us very well. The atmosphere and the support helped us through and it was honestly an unforgettable experience.

How did you feel after it was all over? After it was finished, you get a feeling of “anything is possible”. It was a mental and physical strain but it was also a massive accomplishment. You appreciate things so much more after what you see and go through there. The small things really matter and should never be taken for granted. This race really raises your view on the quality of life.

anything else that you would like to add?First, we want to thank Extreme Sport and Abdul Latif Al-Othman for making this possible and pushing us to achieve our goals. Furthermore, we give special thanks to our families and, of course, each other for backing one another through it all.

Charriol is a swiss manufacturer of jewelry, watches, leather goods, and fashion accessories. they have now come out with their latest ‘st. tropez’ collection as studentalk were able to sit with Mr. Charriol to see how he has been able to create this brand that has become an icon today.

CharriolA Talk with Mr. Charriol

Has your target audience changed over time?Yes to a certain extent, it has to. When this first started, the main market was Japan and then it shifted towards China. The Middle East is stable and it is a fairly easy market to handle when compared to the others.

tell us a little bit about the st. tropez collection.I am from the south of France, born in Marseille. St. Tropez is a world famous summer location and I decided that it will be a perfect summer watch. The name itself can grab the attention and the collection lives up to its name.

What was your vision when you first started Charriol?I was part of a world famous company before I began my own. After a while with them, I decided to start my luxury brand under my name. It starts with a name and, with some luck and a lot of hard work, it becomes a brand.

Were watches a passion for you beforehand?I am more of a marketing man than anything else, really. Watches and other accessories were a passion of mine but I concentrated a lot on the marketing aspect since that is my specialty.

What advice can you give to the students? To start your own business, you have to be a little bit crazy. Everyone will tell you that it is a very difficult task but you have to go for it and find a way. In other words, go straight through the wall and don’t let anything stop you from achieving your dreams.

Protect Yourself before you Wreck YourselfSunburned!

summer has arrived and it’s even hotter than many people expected! therefore, one of the best activities to do is simply laying down in the sun and getting your tan on! You will need to be extra careful though and make sure that you protect yourself from actually hurting your skin. Here are a few tips that can help you prevent it and still look amazing.

sunscreenThis is one of the most common and effective ways to protect yourself against any skin problems from the sun. Sunscreen comes in many different forms and it all depends on the type that you decide to apply. Make sure that you are able to use one that has a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor). Keep in mind that, for example, SPF 15 means that you are protected 15x more than you would be without any sunscreen. Furthermore, make sure you are able to apply in every two hours to make sure you get the best effect.142

3MoisturizerBuy a daily moisturizer of at least SPF 15 for your face. The skin on your face is a lot more sensitive to sun damage than the rest of your body and, therefore, it needs extra protection. Even though you’re looking for a nice, dark tan, it certainly isn’t worth having your skin ruined! Even though you’re putting sunscreen or moisturizer, you will still be able to get your tan, just in a safer way.

Hats & sunglassesNow, if you’re looking for a tan, wearing sunglasses will give you some weird, light circles around your eyes since that part of your face won’t be able to get tanned. With that said, you still need to protect your eyes at times. If the sun is really strong, wearing sunglasses or a hat for a while can definitely help you in terms of things such as getting dizzy or whatnot.

use the PoolFor some reason, a lot of people don’t jump into the pool and decide to spend their time tanning or showering if it gets too hot. Well, it is extremely vital for you to use the pool and at least take a dip every once in a while in order to avoid sunburn. Your body needs to be refreshed and a jump into a cold pool will definitely do the trick.

Of course, there are many other ways for you to protect your skin from the sun but the ones mentioned above are some of the most effective ways. It is really important and isn’t something that should be ignored. You’re looking for a tan, and not damaging your skin. Take the necessary steps in order to avoid the latter and you should be good to go! Enjoy your summer vacation and hope you all have a great one!

Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 special edition

Watches

“The timepiece is the most limited in the tribute series of the Grande ReversoUltra Thin 1931 collection”,says Stephane Belmont, Creation & Marketing Executive Director of the Manufacture. “With only 26 pieces to be made, following on from the acclaimed “Rouge” model and the delicious “Chocolat” model in this tribute collection, the special London Flagship edition dial is a beautiful deep green lacquered dial, reminiscent of the rolling British countryside and of course with a nod to the legendary sporting colour.”

The deep green colour is dear to many at Jaeger-LeCoultre, includingDesign and Artistic Director, Janek Deleskiewicz, whose time as a young man in England in the 1960s and 1970s form some of his greatest memories of freedom and during which he collected many eclectic objects from around the country, and also became interested in beautiful cars at that time. What’s more is that since those days, Deleskiewicz has been totally in love with the surprise and elegance of British tailoring – many of his suits have this deep green silk lining.

The second side on the solid case back features an exquisite engraving of the Palace of Westminster featuring the famous clock tower endearingly called Big Ben, drawn by Deleskiewicz himself. “There is perhaps no better symbol of democracy and commemoration place for great world leaders, and iconic architecture and chime than Big Ben”, continues Belmont. The charm of Big Ben has captured the Manufacture’s imagination for many years. In fact, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre a Grande Sonnerie – one of the most complicated watches in the world – chimes all the notes and the full melody of Big Ben.

Zahra Kassim-Lakha, Director UK Marketing & Global Strategy is “proud that British-mania continues to thrive at Jaeger-LeCoultre. This Grande ReversoUltra Thin 1931 Special London edition is exclusive to the Maison’s elegant new flagship at 13 Old Bond Street, opened in late April.

I invite collectors and lovers of design to discover this piece this summer. With Big Ben and Reverso, it is nothing short of two icons in one.”

From the 1851 Universal Exhibition in London, where Antoine LeCoultre was awarded his first gold medal for his major contribution to the development of the watchmaking industry, to the development of the Calibre 101 that equipped the watch worn by Queen Elizabeth II on her Coronation day, through the iconic Reverso watch, originally created in 1931 for British officers playing polo in India… numerous examples that illustrate the very special emotions that unite the Manufacture of the Vallée de Joux and the United Kingdom.

The Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 Special London Flagship Edition is available in a short series of 26 pieces exclusively at the Jaeger-LeCoultre London Flagship on 13 Old Bond Street, with deliveries starting this summer.

BMW i8Cars

the world’s most progressive sports car, the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid, is celebrating one year of sheer driving pleasure on the roads this month, as countries across the globe come together to mark World environment day (Wed) 2015 on 5 June.

Celebrating their One-Year Anniversary

With sustainability a core element of BMW’s entire value chain, the premium car company’s commitment to eco-mobility has seen the company reduce the emissions produced by an average vehicle by 45% since 2006; a success that falls directly in line with the mission of the United Nations’ WED initiative. Founding its dedicated sustainable BMW i sub-brand in 2011, through which it promotes emission-free driving, the premium car company’s innovative BMW i8 model aids in the combatting of global issues including energy independence and CO2 emissions through its maximum on-road efficiency. With the theme of this year’s WED, ‘7 Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care’, the innovative BMW i8 is a pioneer in ensuring that mass market electro-mobility is in fact no longer a dream, but a reality – especially in the Middle East.

Enhancing BMW’s commitment to a more sustainable future, Middle Eastern countries and cities have cemented their standing as eco-hubs. With sales of the BMW i8 in its first year reaching almost 100 in the GCC alone, the region is catering to the reality of such an electro-mobile future.

The first model available in the region from BMW i, the BMW i8 combines the performance and appeal of a sports car with the fuel consumption and emissions of a small car. With its ultra-dynamic proportions, elegantly sporty lines, low-slung silhouette and futuristic design features, the BMW i8 has caused a sensation on the roads since going on sale across the Middle East in June last year. Powered by a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine

which, in typical BMW sports car fashion, drives through the rear wheels, the BMW i8’s intelligent hybrid system also capitalises on a potent electric motor which sends drive to the front wheels resulting in a combined power output of 362hp delivered to all four wheels.

When united, the dual motors (electric motor at the front and petrol engine at the rear) work in harmony enabling the BMW i8 to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.4 seconds while using just 2.1 litres of petrol per 100kms and emitting just 59g/km of emissions. The BMW i8 has a top speed electronically limited to 250km/h, and can be operated solely in all electric drive (zero emissions) for around 37 kilometres - and the battery of the plug-in hybrid can be continuously charged by the petrol engine while driving. Due to its lightweight of just 1,485 kg, it provides a total drive range of more than 500 kilometres.

An all-embracing sustainability concept runs throughout the entire value chain of the BMW i8; carbon fibre production and vehicle assembly using 100-per cent renewable electricity; high proportion of recycled materials; use of materials manufactured and treated in an environmentally friendly manner.

A United Nations initiative to encourage worldwide awareness and action for the environment, WED is celebrated by stakeholders in more than 100 countries. Serving to galvanize individual actions to generate a collective positive impact on the environment, countries in the region have already cemented their standing as pioneers in eco-living.

Congratulations, Barcelona!

even before it began, there was no doubt that this would be a ueFa Champions league final worth remembering. It was between the favorites, Barcelona, against the surprising finalists, Juventus. there was also the feeling that the Olympiastadon in Berlin would witness a fight that will be etched into the memory of all football fans.

Barcelona Win Their 5th Champions League

Barcelona came into this final after going through the group stages, which included Paris Saint-Germain, Ajax Amsterdam, and APOEL Nicosia. Then, they beat Manchester City in the knockout rounds, Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals, and Bayern Munich in the semi-finals. As for Juventus, their group included Atletico Madrid, Olympiacos, and Malmo, which they got through before beating Borussia Dortmund, AS Monaco, and Real Madrid on their way to the highly anticipated final.

The stage was set and the teams were more than prepared to put their names into the history books. Juventus knew for a fact that they would be seen as underdogs but they were more than willing to come out fighting for their lives. Their squad was great and were capable of damage against what is arguably one of the strongest teams in football right now.

Barcelona opened the scoring through an early goal by Ivan Rakitic before Alvaro Morata

was able to get the equalizer for the Italian side. The fight kept on going but it was Barcelona’s Luis Suarez who was able to get on the end of a rebound and make it 2-1 for the side representing Spain. One thing was for sure though, Juventus will not go down without a fight and they proved it but, unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. Neymar was able to increase the score-line to 3-1 in the dying moments of the game to gift Barcelona a deserved win in the final.

All the happiness was also mixed with some emotional moments as we saw tears from iconic Juventus players such as Andrea Pirlo and Gianluigi Buffon and we also said goodbye to Barcelona’s Xavi, who has decided to leave his beloved club and join the Qatari club, Al-Sadd.

Juventus leave this match with their heads held high and have also proven to the football world what hard-work and determination could truly do. They have been able to exceed all expectations and make it to the Final of this massive tournament, beating some great sides along the way. Unfortunately for them, they weren’t able to make it all the way, but there is definitely nothing for them to feel ashamed about whatsoever.

Congratulations to Barcelona, who have been able to win their fifth UEFA Champions League and show the world that they are still a force to be reckoned with. With the win, they have been able to complete the treble as they are the champions of the UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and the Copa del Rey. They will surely want to continue building from this and fight to win even more trophies in the coming season.

Will Barcelona be able to make history and be the first team to win this competition two times in a row? I guess we all just have to wait and see…

apple tracks Back after taylor swift’s ConcernsApple has responded to concerns raised by Taylor Swift and will actually pay royalties to artists during a three-month free trial period for its music streaming service.

The “Blank Space” singer had refused to put her hit album, 1989, on the new service saying “it is unfair to ask anyone to work for nothing”.

The 25-year-old said it would hurt young artists trying to break into the music industry, and called the decision “shocking” and “disappointing”.

“We don’t ask you for free iPhones. Please don’t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation,” she wrote in a blog post entitled “To Apple, Love Taylor” on tumblr.

OMEGA brand ambassador, the renowned Bollywood actor/producer Abhishek Bachchan, visited Kuwait city along with OMEGA’s Vice President and Head of International Sales, Raynald Aeschlimann. They participated in the official opening of Morad Yousuf Behbehani’s third mono-brand OMEGA boutique at 360 Mall.

The GCC market is an important segment for OMEGA and the Kuwaiti watch connoisseurs contribute significantly to the success of the industry in the region. The Kuwait retail market has long been a favourite for manufacturers of upscale watches and high-end jewellery who have firmly set their sights on this oil-rich Northern Gulf state. The Kuwaitis have a tradition and appreciation for luxury goods and have helped spur the growing interest in prestige watch brands.

Abhishek Bachchan and Raynald Aeschlimann were joined by Ali Morad Behbehani, President of Morad Yousuf Behbehani Group and H. E. Etienne Thévoz, Swiss Ambassador to Kuwait for the ribbon-cutting ceremony while the guests were welcomed with canapés and cocktails. The evening was attended by OMEGA collectors and fans members of the Behbehani family, watch connoisseurs, and special guests including ambassadors and other foreign dignitaries. Among them were the Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Sunil Jain.

All the guests were then invited into the boutique where they had the opportunity to explore the OMEGA universe with its exclusive collection of watches and fine jewellery. The boutique has been designed with OMEGA’s global concept, which is inspired by the natural elements of air, water and sunlight. The cream and champagne interior, with exotic reconstituted zebra wood furniture and chiseled glass surfaces underline the attention to detail and quality for which OMEGA has long been known.
