Dear Students,

Right after I graduated from university, I decided to leave my country, my home, my roots.

Why? Because my country did not offer me peace and without peace, there can never be neither prosperity nor growth.

Destiny landed me in a land of good people, people with values and great self-respect, merchants from their ancestor’s days whose sole focus is on their work and family, people united by their love of their country, a unity that kept their lands intact for centuries and decades against any invasion.

But today…today you actually made me wonder..

Why?I am Lebanese and today I tell you my students, be careful.

Those who speak loudly want followers, do not follow.

The Lebanese have been following loud words for years, where is our country now!?

We have yet to find peace...

STUDENTALK met Hitaf Al-Shaijy to test drive the new Mercedes-Benz GLK350 Compact SUV. Let’s go through her experience and see what she found.

The new Mercedes-Benz GLK350 Compact SUV says it all. With a price starting from 16,270 KD, this all-wheel-drive has a V6 engine that produces up to 306 hp at 6500 rpm and can take you from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.There’s more. In order to be satisfied with the car, Mercedes subjected it to their BlueEfficiency Measures. A group of collaborated features that help the car to become economic in terms of fuel consumption and environmentally-friendly at the same time.One of those features is the ECO start/Stop function. Once the ECO button is pressed, every time you find yourself stuck in traffic the engine automatically goes through hibernation. You don’t take your foot off the brake paddle, though, for it will reactivate the engine again and resume as normal. This allows the car to reduce its CO2 emissions significantly. In addition to the ECO Start/Stop function, 7G-Tronic Plus, a 7-Speed automatic transmission system, adjusts continuously to your current driving situation and driving style. The rest of the BlueEfficiency Measures include Low-friction axle drives, electric steering and tyres with low rolling resistance which, when combined, make a good team in reducing fuel consumption.As for the actual performance, the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system provides an impressive amount of stability as you go through a curved road. It also works with the Electric Stability Program System, ESP, which feels like its responding on your behalf in case of poor weather conditions.But my admiration to the GLK-350 doesn’t all belong to the good stuff under the hood. It is full of fascinating contradictions that re-defines the saying “Never Judge a Book by its Cover”. And once I climbed up the driving seat, I couldn’t believe how easy it was considering the fact it is an SUV. Then all doubt went right out the window, when I found myself quite elevated and had a very clear view of my surroundings. Also, the car was quite spacious considering it is compact.To me, all of the above was absolutely wonderful until I found out that Mercedes had equipped their baby with a multimedia system anyone can dream of. The Command Online multimedia system!The Command Online comprises of speed-sensitive volume control function, CD/DVD/MP3 player, the Music Register with a hard drive capacity of 10 GB, USB & Aux-in connections, SD memory card slot, Bluetooth interface, navigating system, emergency call system which calls for assistance as soon as an airbag is out, and the cherry on top, an integrated web browser that allows you an internet access through a web-enabled mobile phone. من احلقوق الوطنية وتابعت " مشاركة الطلبة يف االنتخابات هذا العام أكرث من

السنوات السابقة وذلك لوعي الطلبة بأهمية هذا احلدث".

وكذلك الطالبة ياسمني حسني تخصص متويل )سنة ثالثة( وجدت يف قائمة

الوسط الدميوقراطي لألفكار واملبادئ التي تتناسب مع فكرها، وزادت "مل

أتوقع الفوز لقائمة الوسط إال أنه ال بد من العمل باألفكار التي تتناسب معي".

فرصة للمشاركةومن جهتها متنت الطالبة مرمي الناصر كلية اآلداب )سنة ثالثة( التغيري وإعطاء

القوائم األخرى فرص املشاركة يف العمل النقابي، وتربر ذلك قائلة "انتخبت

قائمة 1962 وذلك حتى نحدث بعض التغيريات يف اجلامعة”.

ووافقتها يف الرأي الطالبة سحر العلي كلية اآلداب )سنة ثالثة( على ضرورة

العمل اجلاد واملستمر من أجل التغيري يف العمل النقابي ومشاركة أكرب عدد

من الطلبة خلدمة زمالئهم. وشددت الطالبة فجر الكنيمش

تخصص أدب اجنليزي )سنة رابعة( أنه من الضروري إعطاء الفرص للقوائم

األخرى وعدم احتكار العمل النقابي جلهة دون أخرى.

نشر املساواةأما الطالب حممد العنزي تخصص

تسويق )سنة ثالثة( أشار أن قائمة الوسط الدميوقراطي تسعى إىل نشر

املساواة بني الكويتيني واملقيمني يف عملها دون تفرقة.

وزاد ” مبادئ قائمة الوسط ثابتة منذ التأسيس على الرغم من توقعه بعدم

فوز القائمة ألن هناك ثمة مشاكل يف توصيل املبادئ للطلبة الذين يتابعون

اإلجنازات ويتغافلون عن األهداف واملبادئ التي تتخالف مع مبدأ االنتخاب”.

ومن جهته يؤمن الطالب عبداهلل الدليمي تخصص حماسبة )سنة ثالثة( مببادئ وأفكار قائمة 1962 ويثني على

اجلامعي من خالل تطبيق قانون منع التدخني يف األماكن العامة

وحتديد غرف خمصصة لذلك. ويتابع "االنتخاب حق مشروع لذلك على مدى

األعوام السابقة يف اجلامعة أحرص على املشاركة يف هذا العرس

الدميوقراطي الذي يتمكن الطلبة من خالله ايصال طلباتهم إىل الهيئات

اإلدارية”. وتابع إن طلبة كلية جامعة الكويت يعانون من مشكلة مواقف

السيارات مطالبًا بضرورة زيادة عددها .وزاد العون أن عدد املطاعم واملقاهي

قليل بالنسبة للطلبة ونحن بحاجة إىل وجود تنوع أكرب مما يساعد على كسر

الروتني الدراسي.

افتقار النزاهة ويف رأي معارض يشري الطالب عبداهلل

فاضل أكرب، تخصص هندسة مدنية )السنة اخلامسة( أنه مل يشارك يف

اإلنتخابات منذ ثالث سنوات وذلك لعدة

يف كل عام دراسي تبدأ مرحلة جديدة يف حياة الطلبة سواء كانت علمية أو مهنية أو شخصية، يحملون معها أهدافًا وطموحات ومشاريع ويسعون إىل العمل على حتقيقها أو تسليم املهام لألشخاص املسؤولني عن ذلك. هذا باختصار ما يحصل يف االنتخابات اجلامعية يف الكويت، حيث تتحالف وتتنافس القوائم لتبدأ املعركة

اإلنتخابية املصغرة وتفوز فئة وأخرى ال يحالفها احلظ. ولتسليط الضوء على رأي الطلبة حول أهمية املشاركة يف االنتخابات، وتقييمهم للروابط السابقة والتعرف على مطالبهم، التقت STUDENTALK عددًا من طلبة كلية الهندسة والبرتول يف جامعة الكويت وطلبة جامعة اخلليج للعلوم والتكنولوجيا لإلطالع أكرث على املوضوع.

أسباب أبرزها عدم تغيري القوائم. وقال " أنا ال أجد القوائم التي تشارك يف

معركة االنتخابات نزيهة وال يوجد حتقيق للمطالب خاصة فيما يتعلق مبواقف

واألنشطة اخلريية يف اجلامعة لتعزيز العمل التطوعي واملبادرات الفردية

واجلماعية. كما أثنى على نشاط الروابط الطالبية على مدى األعوام

السابقة يف الكلية الذين مل يبخلوا بتقدمي الدعم للطلبة ويستذكر من

اجنازات الروابط السابقة، زيادة عدد مواقف السيارات حيث يتم العمل حاليًا

على هذا املشروع رغم إغالق بعض املواقف بشكل مؤقت. ووافقه يف

الرأي الطالب حممد املري تخصص هندسة برتول )سنة رابعة( مشريًا

إىل أن اإلنتخابات الطالبية مهمة لذلك يحرص على املشاركة واإلدالء بصوته،

ويعلل ذلك بقوله "متكنت الرابطة السابقة من إثبات نفسها وحتقيق

األهداف التي وعدت بها وكرس ممثلوها وقتهم للطلبة بالرغم من

دراستهم اجلامعية لكنهم متكنوا من خلق التوازن بني مهمتهم يف

الرابطة وحتصيلهم العلمي”. أما عن أفضل اإلجنازات التي متكنت الرابطة

من حتقيقها فكان نظام إعادة املواد وإحتساب املعدل األعلى.

أما الطالبة عائشة املرزوق تخصص هندسية كهربائية فقد أشارت أنها انتخبت القائمة العلمية ألنها متكنت

من إثبات نفسها على مدى 33 عامًا. وعن املشاكل التي ترغب بتوفري حلول

لها قالت "نعاين من مشكلة مواقف السيارات وما يرتتب عليها من سلبيات بالنسبة للطلبة منها عدم الوصول يف

الوقت احملدد وزحمة السري اخلانقة أمام احلرم اجلامعي.”

وبدوره ناشد الطالب حممد ناصر العنزي تخصص هندسة صناعية

خمتلف اجلهات املسؤولة واملعنية يف موضوع مواقف السيارات العمل سريعًا

وإيجاد احللول ألن الطلبة يعانون يوميا من هذه املشكلة التي أصبحت تشكل

عائقًا أمام الطلبة.

مشاكل وحلول

يعود عمر جامعة الكويت ألكرث من 40 سنة، وتشهد تزايدًا يف أعداد الطلبة فهل هناك خطط مستقبلية النشاء أبنية تستوعب هذه التطورات، وما هي

احللول املرتقبة؟ال يقتصر األمر على تزايد عدد الطلبة فقط، بل هناك تزايد أيضًا يف عدد املوظفني والهيئة التدريسية إال أنه مل يحدث أي تطورات على املباين وهذه مشكلة مطروحة. مت تطبيق بعض احللول رغم أنها مل تالئم رغبة الطلبة لكنها األفضل، وأبرزها إطالة

اليوم الدراسي حتى الساعة الثامنة مساًء.

ظاهرة صحيةبعد منو احلياة الدميوقراطية يف الكويت ما هو تأثريها على االنتخابات اجلامعية؟

أعترب أن االنتخابات اجلامعية ظاهرة صحية مير بها الطالب الكويتي وهي جتربة جديدة يف الدميوقراطية وليست أمرًا ترفيهيًا، حيث الطالب املنتخب يف الرابطة

أو اجلمعية ميثيل زمالئه يف االحتاد الوطني لدولة الكويت ويكون لديهم قوة احتادية للمشاركة يف القرارات واملطالب احملقة ملا فيها من مصلحة الطلبة

واجلامعة.

نالحظ املشاكل الطالبية خالل فرتة اإلنتخابات سنويًا، لكنها هذا العام كانت أقل حدة فما هو السبب برأيك؟

يعود هذا إىل زيادة وعي ونضج الطلبة فضاًل عن اللوائح والقرارات التي أصدرتها اإلدارة اجلامعية ملعاقبة أي طالب يثري املشاكل واخلالفات.

كلمة أخرية.نهدف يف الكلية إىل نشر ثقافة التطوع ملا لها من تأثري إيجابي يف مستقبل حياة الطلبة، فجميع النشاطات التي نقوم بها ال تخضع للتقييم األكادميي وليس لها أي

درجات بل يجب أن تنبثق من رغبة الطلبة يف املشاركة، كما أننا نسعى للتواصل مع كافة اجلهات اخلارجية للمشاركة يف مناخ تعليمي ونشر ثقافة العلم يف اجملتمع.

االنتخابات اجلامعية ظاهرة صحيةدكتورة مشاعل احلملي: جامعة الكويت ليس لها منافس

الدكتورة مشاعل عبداهلل احلملي رئيسة قسم اللغة االجنليزية وآدابها يف جامعة الكويت كلية اآلداب، حاصلة على شهادة املاجستري يف اللغويات التطبيقة من جامعة East Anglia ، وشهادة الدكتوراة من جامعة Edinurgh يف بريطانيا. التحقت بالهيئة التدريسية يف اجلامعة ومن ثم انتدبت كملحق ثقايف يف قنصلية الكويت يف اإلمارات العربية املتحدة ملدة أربع سنوات، لتعود مرة أخرى إىل الهيئة

التدريسية يف تخصص اللغويات التطبيقية لطلبة كلية اآلداب. التقتها STUDENTALK لتتحدث عن مسريتها التعليمية واإلجنازات واألنشطة التي يقوم

بها قسم اللغة االجنليزية، وكان احلوار التايل.

ما هو سبب اختيارك مهنة التدريس؟ هذه املهنة حتمل معاين سامية وخالدة تؤثر على حياة الطلبة الدراسية والعملية،

لتبني األجيال الذين يصنعون مستقبل البالد وتشكل فارقًا يف حياة الطلبة.

املستقبل الوظيفي

كيف تقيمني مستوى الطالب الوظيفي يف ظل األزمة اإلقتصادية التي يشهدها العامل؟

الطلبة خريجو كلية اآلداب قسم اللغة االجنليزية تفتح أمامهم العديد من األبواب من خمتلف القطاعات اخلاصة، منها املصارف أو جماالت الرتجمة واإلعالم ألن

مهاراتهم اللغوية وتخصصهم يتيح لهم الفرص رغم الظروف اإلقتصادية التي يشهدها العامل.

أنشطة القسم

بعيدًا عن املناهج الدراسية ما هي األنشطة التي تقوم بها الكلية خالل العام الدراسي؟

يحرص القسم على املشاركة يف احملاضرات والندوات واملؤمترات الثقافية التي تقيمها الكلية مبشاركة الطلبة وأعضاء هيئة التدريس ، ومن أبرزها "اليوم

االجنليزي- English Day” وسيقام هذا العام للسنة العاشرة، وهو يوم مفتوح يتضمن فقرات شعرية وأكادميية ومسرحيات من تأليف وإخراج الطلبة باللغة

االجنليزية بإشراف من القسم، كما يتم دعوة املدارس والكليات اخلاصة للمشاركة ومتابعة نشاطات الطلبة. فضال عن"أسبوع الفيلم" وسيقام هذا العام للسنة

السابعة ويستمر على مدى أسبوع يتبنى الطلبة فكرة معينة لألفالم املعروضة ويتم مناقشتها أدبيًا وثقافيًا وفنيًا بحضور اجمللس الثقايف الربيطاين والسفارة

األمريكية، ومن أبرز احملاور مشاركة األطفال يف األفالم السينمائية.

ما هو دور English Club؟نادي طالبي ترتأسه الدكتورة مليس البستان ويشرف عليه أعضاء هيئة التدريس،

يتضمن مواضيع خمتلفة سواء طبية عن أمراض السرطان أو عن جتربة أحد الطلبة جتاه إعاقة معينة وكيفية التعامل مع التحصيل الدراسي.

يف ظل الثورة العلمية والزيادة يف عدد اجلامعات اخلاصة ما هو تقييمك

للدراسة األكادميية يف جامعة الكويت؟جامعة الكويت ليس لها منافس، تأسست عام 1966 بهيئة تدريسية كبرية جدًا

واعتماد أكادميي. واليوم قسم اللغة االجنليزية يضم 40 عضوًا تدريسيًا من خمتلف التخصصات، يحرصون على إقامة األبحاث العلمية وحضور املؤمترات. وكذلك اجلامعات اخلاصة مستواهم وبرامج اللغة لديهم ممتازة والربامج األكادميية معتمدة من جملس اجلامعات اخلاصة ومنهم من لديهم برامج من جامعات

عاملية.

هل هناك أي دعم خارجي يتلقاه اإلحتاد الوطني؟ يف الواقع نتلقى رعاية وليس دعمًا ألنه يكون مشروطًا. أما بالنسبة للدعم املايل، فيتمثل يف أغلبه من رعاية صاحب السمو أمري البالد الشيخ صباح األحمد اجلابر الصباح

حفظه اهلل ورعاه، وسمو ويل العهد الشيخ نواف األحمد اجلابر الصباح حفظه اهلل ورعاه وميزانية حمددة من اجلامعة.

رسالة إىل اإلدارة اجلامعية. ال ننسى فضل من علمنا، فالهيئة التدريسية قدمت لنا العلم واملعرفة، وساعدتنا للوصول إىل مرحلة التخرج. ونحن نريد أن يتعاونوا مع الطلبة حتى أقصى احلدود.

كلمة للذين صوتوا لكم. نشكركم على هذه الثقة التي منحتونا إياها، شكرًا من القلب ألنكم زدتونا اصرارًا وثقة وقناعة متمنيًا أن نكون عند حسن ظن الطلبة.

واللذين مل يصوتوا لكم. شكرًا من القلب ألنكم أرحتمونا من مسؤولية ثقيلة هي خدمة الطلبة ونعدكم بأن نخدمكم سواء صوتوا لنا أم مل تصوتوا ألن اإلحتاد للكل وليس لفئة دون أخرى.

وعد للطلبة. أعد الطلبة بأن نكون عند حسن ظنكم، وبأن يكون هذا اإلحتاد الوطني كما كانت اإلحتادات السابقة خلدمة الطلبة، وندعكم بأننا سنكون أول من يدافع عن حقوقكم.

هل هناك حلول مت طرحها يف هذا السياق؟ طرحنا حلواًل تتمثل يف استئجار منشآت من الدولة، وانتداب أعضاء هيئة التدريس

أو تسهيل اجراءات البعثات لذلك سنسعى جاهدين للضغط على اإلدارة اجلامعية، ولكن هذا األمر متعلق بعدد من الوزارات واجلهات املعنية لذلك نطمح إىل أقصى

سبل التعاون خاصة أن أهم إستثمار هو اإلستثمار البشري يف طلبة اجلامعة بداًل من اإلعتماد فقط على اإلستثمار املايل أو بناء اجملمعات. ونحن نطالب القيادة

باإلهتمام بالطلبة ألنهم هم من يقودون البلد.

هل سيتم إتخاذ حركات تصعيدية يف هذا اجملال إذا مل يتم تنفيذ املطالب؟ كل التحركات ستكون موجودة، ونحن ممثلون عن طلبة وإذا حاولت أي جهة أن

تعرقل مسرية الطلبة العلمية لن ننأى بأنفسنا ألننا نحن من وإىل الطلبة.

لو مل تكن بالقائمة االئتالفية، ماذا سيكون البديل؟ إختياري لهذه القائمة منبثق من قناعتي مببادئ وفكر القائمة، وكل شخص لديه

رأيه اخلاص ويختار القائمة التي تناسبه، والعمل النقابي يرتكز على املسألة الفكرية ومبادئها الراسخة وحتاكي العقل والقلب مببادئ إسالمية وطالبية تصب جميعها

يف خدمة الطلبة.

ترأس احتاد الطلبة وحتقيق رقم يعترب األكرب يف تاريخ احلركة الطالبية ليس باألمر السهل، كيف متكنت من حتقيق ذلك؟

التدرج يف العمل النقابي منذ دخويل جامعة الكويت كانت اخلطوة األوىل، وبعد تزكية العاملني يف القائمة الذين ساندوين وآزروين وطوروا من شخصيتي وتصرفاتي ألتبوأ

هذا املنصب.

يسيطر الطلبة الذكور على العمل الطالبي، ونفتقد العنصر النسائي، ملاذا؟مل يحصل أنه قامت طالبة بالرتشيح ومنعتها القائمة، إنها حرية شخصية والباب مفتوح ألي طالب أو طالبة كونهم جزأين يكمالن بعضهما البعض، هناك قلة قليلة

من الطالبات يف العمل النقابي وعددهن ليس كبريًا.

أفضل االجنازات

ما هي أفضل إجنازات القائمة على مدى األعوام السابقة؟ صرف املكافأة االجتماعية 100 دينار، وزيادتها إىل 200 دينار. تغيري نظام التسجيل الذي كان مشكلة بالنسبة للطلبة، فضاًل عن تظليل بعض مواقف السيارات وأخرى يف

طور العمل. وأيضًا قبول 2500 طالبًا وطالبة بعد أن مت رفضهم على أساس أن اجلامعة ال تستوعب هذه األعداد إال أننا حرصنا على الضغط على اجلامعة ومت قبولهم يف الفصل الدراسي الثاين. ومت حتويل املرضية من التوجيه واإلرشاد إىل املوقع اإللكرتوين.

كيف تتمكن من تنظيم وقتك ما بني احلياة اجلامعية والعمل الطالبي؟ اإلنسان الذي يريد النجاح يجب أن يكون منظمًا، وإذا أردت أن تنظم أولوياتك ستتمكن من التوفيق بني األمرين.

ما هي االجراءات املتبعة بالنسبة للقائمة االئتالفية مع الطلبة املستجدين؟ يحتاج الطالب املستجد يف البداية إىل التوجيه واإلرشاد والتعرف على اجلامعة وأماكن احملاضرات، ونقوم باللقاء اإلرشادي ونشرح التخصصات و املستقبل الوظيفي لكل

تخصص وذلك يف بداية كل عام دراسي وتعرض القوائم مبادئها واجنازاتها وأهدافها وعلى أساسها يقرر الطالب ما يريد.

رئيس احتاد طلبة الكويت فهد العبد اجلادر: "ال منانع ترشيح الطالبات يف االنتخابات اجلامعية

إختياري لالئتالفية منبثق من قناعاتي مببادئها”

فهد العبد اجلادر طالب يف كلية العلوم االجتماعية تخصص علوم سياسية، رئيس احتاد طلبة الكويت للعام الدراسي 2012-2013، ترأس هذا العام احتاد طلبة الكويت بعدما عمل مع القائمة االئتالفية ألكرث من 6 سنوات، ليحقق رقمًا يعترب األكرب يف تاريخ احلركة الطالبية مبجموع 9098 صوتا. التقته STUDENTALK ليحدثنا

عن جتربته يف جمال العمل الطالبي والنقابي واالجنازات التي تعمل عليها والتي حققتها القائمة وكان احلوار التايل.

تتميز الكويت بأنها دولة دميوقراطية، ماذا ميثل لك العمل النقابي كجزء من هذه الدميوقراطية؟ العمل النقابي بالنسبة يل هو أمر ضروري ومهم، ونحن يف الكويت جبلنا على املمارسات الدميقراطية وطرح اآلراء واألفكار والدفاع عنها، وعلى صعيد شخصي عندما

كنت طالبًا يف مدرسة الرؤية ثنائية اللغة ترأست أمانة سر جملس يف الصف احلادي عشر وترأست جملس الطلبة يف السنة الدراسية األخرية. أما يف اجلامعة فبدأت يف العمل النقابي من أول سنة كعامل يف القائمة املعتدلة يف كلية العلوم اإلدارية، وثم رئيس جلنة املستجدين يف السنة الثانية. ويف السنة الثالثة ترأست أمانة سر

القائمة املعتدلة، ويف السنة الرابعة أمني سر القائمة االئتالفية على مستوى االحتاد، ويف السنة اخلامسة رئيس جملس القائمة االئتالفية ويف السنة السادسة رئيس االحتاد الوطني لطلبة الكويت.

ممارسة الدميوقراطية

على ماذا يرتكز العمل النقابي؟يتمحور حول أمرين أساسني، ايصال املعلومة وفهم القائمة خلدمة طلبة اجلامعة دون استثناء.

نالحظ حمالت طالبية ملقاطعة اإلنتخابات اجلامعية، ما هو السبب؟الطلبة الذين يقاطعون االنتخابات والذين ال تعجبه مبادئنا واجنازاتنا وحتركاتنا نطلب منهم أن يعرضوا آرائهم وإنشاء قائمة بأفكارهم ألن إبداء الرأي ليس حكرًا على قائمة

دون أخرى وزيادة األفكار والتوجهات ترثي العمل الطالبي.

ما هو املشروع اجلديد لإلحتاد الوطني لطلبة جامعة الكويت؟يقوم االحتاد الوطني بوضع اخلطة للعام الدراسي بأكمله إال أن املبدأ األساسي قائم على أساس االحتادات السابقة يتمثل يف السعي املستمر خلدمة طلبة جامعة

الكويت.

املنشآت اجلامعيةتزايدت التداعيات وارتفعت األصوات ملشكلة املنشآت اجلامعية املتهالكة، ما هي احللول؟

منذ تأسيس الكويت مل يتم بناء أي جامعة وهنا عالمة إستفهام، فنحن أمام أزمة، وال يوجد أي بوادر حللها ألن املشكلة عمرها ما بني 5-6 سنوات لكننا سنعمل على حل املشكلة بكل جهد ممكن. فاملنشآت اجلامعية مل تعد تستوعب األعداد الطالبية الكبرية ألنها أصبحت متهالكة ما يؤثر على التحصيل األكادميي. كما أن عدد أعضاء هيئة

التدريس غري كاف مقارنة مع أعداد الطلبة.

تعترب الهواية ممارسة فعل حمبب يقوم به الشخص برغبة ذاتية من دون أية دوافع أخرى، وعادة ما تكون الهواية هي اجلهة التي يلجأ إليها الشخص إلظهار

ابداعاته وأعماله واجنازاته للتعبريعما يدور يف نفسه من شعور سواء كانت كتابة أو رسمًا أو عزفًا أو رقصًا أو

غري ذلك من األمور. شهريًا حتتضن جملة STUDENTALK، مواهب طلبة

ويف هذا الشهر حققت سارة اسكندراين أعلى نسبة تصويت بني املنافسني. هي طالبة جامعية، تخصص حماسبة سنة ثانية يف جامعة اخلليج يف

العلوم والتكنولوجيا، ابداعها يف كتابة القصص باللغة االجنليزية لفت أنظار املقربني إليها عندما كانت يف

سن الرابعة عشر يف املدرسة و أظهروا إعجابهم مبا كانت تقوم بكتابته، التقت STUDENTALK مع الطالبة

املوهوبة لتحدثنا أكرث عن هوايتها وجتربتها.ويف هذا السياق تقول اسكندراين أنها أظهرت

ابداعاتها الكتابية عندما بدأت باملشاركة بتأليف Fanfiction.net القصص يف املوقع اإللكرتوين

الذي يتناول قصصًا من تأليف الكتاب يف املوقع عن

الشخصيات الكرتونية. وتقول: “أكرث ما جذبني لهذا املوقع هو األسلوب

الذي يعتمده الكتاب لذلك قررت اإلنضمام واإلستمرار معهم”.

وقد حرصت أن تغني موهبتها بقراءة الكتب املتنوعة، مشرية أن للقراءة فوائد عديدة تتمثل يف زيادة

املعرفة واإلطالع وتعترب هي بداية لكل شيء حيث تعتمد الدراسة على القراءة.

وأشادت اسكندراين بالدعم األسري الذي تلقته حني أصدرت جملة خاصة حتمل اسم “ Buing“ تتضمن

كتاباتها فضاًل عن مشاركة عدد من األصدقاء.وعن أكرث املواضيع التي ترغب بكتابتها هي األمور

اليومية اخملتلفة التي تعيشها فترتجمها بالورقة والقلم، ولعل أبرزها تلك املتعلقة بالصداقة حيث

الحظت يف اآلونة األخرية أن مفهوم الصداقة حتول إىل مصالح شخصية وعالقات غري صادقة، كما تناولت يف

إحدى كتاباتها موضوعًا عن حتليل الشخصية.ويف كلمة أخرية لقراء STUDENTALK، قالت:

Lewis Hamilton Still only 27, Lewis Hamilton has amassed nearly twenty years experience of winning races. He began his winning ways at the age of 8 in karts, and just five years later he had been signed up by McLaren and Mercedes-Benz to their Young Driver Support Programme. Victories in Formula Renault, Formula 3, and GP2 championships paved the way to his debut on the Formula 1 grid in 2007.It was clear from that first race that Hamilton was here to make his mark – he qualified fourth and finished third. By the end of the year he’d won an incredible four races and finished second in the championship to Ferrari’s Kimi Räikkönen.

The following year Hamilton went one better and won five races to become Formula One World Champion.Looking back, winning the championship was a turning point for Hamilton in his career. He was accused by some of enjoying his celebrity status a little too much. A drop in his racing form coincided with regular appearances around town with a number of pop starlets and, having fallen out with his father, he fired him from the role of manager which he had held throughout Hamilton’s career. He is now managed by Simon Fuller.

2013 will be perhaps the most testing of his career so far. He has severed his long links with McLaren and is moving to Mercedes (ousting seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher in doing so). When the red lights go out on 17th March at Albert Park in Melbourne, the time for excuses will be over, and Hamilton must once again drive like a champion.

His personal physician, Conrad Murray, said he had found Jackson in his room not breathing and with a faint pulse. The Los Angeles County Coroner ruled Jackson’s death a homicide by Murray as he has administered the pop legend propofol and anti-anxiety medications shortly before his death. Murray is now in jail and serving his time for the claimed homicide of the king of pop.

Mysterious Celebrity Deaths

Whitney HoustonWhitney Houston, was an American recording artist, actress, producer, and model, shocked many with her death in 2012 at her guest room in Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills, California. Houston was one of the world’s best-selling music artists, all of which have diamond, multi-platinum, platinum, or gold certification. Beginning with her video for ‘How Will I Know,’ Houston has influenced many African American artists to follow in her footsteps. Houston’s fame fell short on that February night, as toxicology reports have shown that she accidently drowned in a bathtub due to the effects of chronic drug use and heart disease. News of her death had coincided with the 2012 Grammy Awards of which the memories of her success were shared throughout the ceremony.

James DeanAn American film actor and a cultural icon of teenage disillusionment, James Byron Dean endured fame and popularity throughout his life until his premature death in a car crash during 1955. Throughout his life, Dean was the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and until today remains the only actor to have had two posthumous acting nominations. Leading to his death, Dean was preparing for the weekend sports car races at Salina, California. He had intended to trailer the Porsche to Salinas but because it did not have enough ‘break-in’ miles prior to the race, he was told to drive the Spyder in order to get more seat time behind the wheel. Witnesses claim Dean saw an impending crash and tried to power steer the spider but there was not enough time or space, so the two cars crashed head-on. The Spyder flipped in the air and landed back on its wheels. Soon after, an unconscious and dying Dean was placed into an ambulance and he was shortly pronounced dead by the emergency room physician.

Princess DianaA decade on, and conspiracy theories surrounding the death of Princess Diana are still ongoing. In August 1997, Diana, the Princess of Wales, died as a result

of injuries sustained in a car accident in the Pont de l’Alma road tunnel in Paris, France. Her companion Dodi Fayed, and the driver of the Mercedes were pronounced dead at the scene. The bodyguard of Diana and Dodi was the only survivor. At first, the media pinned the blame on the paparazzi, however, the crash was ultimately found to be caused by the reckless actions of the chauffeur. In 1999, the investigation concluded that the crash was caused by Paul who lost control of the car while intoxicated. Yet in 1998, Dodi’s father, Mohamed Al-Fayed claimed the crash was a result of a conspiracy in which it was orchestrated by MI6 on the instructions of the Royal Family. Nonetheless, the French judicial investigation dismissed his claims. Until today, no real evidence can be shown for the involvement of the Royal Family within Princess Diana’s death.

Top 20 Albums

In a musical industry dominated by glamour pop rhythms and hallow repetitive choruses, it’s hard to find lyrics that are both substantial and aurally delicious. As “Babel” demonstrates, Mumford & Sons have not yet ceased to provide tremendously rich lyrics. They are overwhelmingly satisfying and provide a powerful punch of both struggle and triumph. If “I Will Wait” is the only song that you’ve heard from the album, then you are missing out. Just ask band member and keyboardist Ben Lovett. When asked about the heavily radio-played single, he told an interviewer, “It’s the worst track on the record – we just thought we’d get it out,” and when questioned about the rest of the album replied, “It’s only up from here!” While I enjoy “I Will Wait,” I have to agree with Lovett; it isn’t even close to being my favorite song on the album. That being said, if “I Will Wait” is the worst song on the album, then it just might be the best worst song ever.Other memorable songs from the album include “Lover of the Light,” “Lover’s Eyes,” “Reminder,” “Not with Haste” and, above all, the song they performed live on Saturday Night Live, “Below My Feet.” Some listeners may prefer the clashing folk force of sound that is prevalent in some songs, others may appreciate the diaphanous lyrical webs woven through others. But then again, that is the beauty of Mumford & Sons. You don’t have to choose, because you always get a blissful helping of both.

أقامت منظمة "فور شباب –الكويت” امللتقى األول "سواعد لوطن واعد” حتت رعاية رئيسة مركز العمل التطوعي الشيخة أمثال األحمد اجلابرالصباح وبحضور مدير املنظمة سليمان العقيلي وعدد من املشاركني وذلك يف قاعة الشيخة

سلوى الصباح.وباملناسبة أعلنت الشيخة أمثال األحمد اجلابرالصباح عن إطالق جائزة العم عبد

الرحمن السميط للعمل اخلريي حمليا هذا العام، ومن ثم اطالقها خليجيا وعامليا بدعم من حضرة صاحب السمو أمري البالد الشيخ صباح األحمد اجلابر الصباح. مشريه أن للعمل التطوعي تاريخ عريق و متأصل ومتجذر يف الشعب الكويتي.

ولفتت إىل أن الهدف نشر فكر العمل التطوعي يف جميع حمافظات الكويت ومن ثم عربيا وعامليا ، داعية شباب الكويت إىل خوض جماالت العمل التطوعي.

واستمرت فعاليات املؤمتر ملدة يومني تخللها عدد من احملاضرات وعرض للتجارب ومن أبرز املشاركني الدكتور طارق سويدان ورئيس فريق سنيار حسني

وجمال العتال مدير شركة داو للكيماويات يف الكويت وفيصل الهارون املدير التنفيذي لالكادميية وسلمان الرشود إدارة جلنة االكادميية واملدرب االيطايل باترسيو

بيليو. وقالت السقاف يف كلمة ألقتها أن االكادميية بدأت أول موسم لها يف يناير 2010، ويف اقل من 3 سنوات استطاعت أن حتقق اجنازات كبرية. وتابعت أنه قريبا

سيتم افتتاح أكادميية لوياك – أي سي ميالن البحرين. وشكرت كل فريق العمل من مدربني وإداريني ساهموا يف هذا النجاح واألشبال املوهوبني اللتزامهم بالتدريب،

كما شكرت الرعاة ممثلة بشركة داو للكيماويات وشركة الكوت الغذائية وشركة املركز وجمموعة الراي اإلعالمية على دعمهم.

AUK Presents the Dejean QuartetThe Department of Music and Drama at the American University of Kuwait (AUK), under the auspices of the German Embassy in Kuwait, presented the Dejean Quartet on the AUK campus on Tuesday, Oct. 16. The ensemble of flute, violin, viola, and cello are all members of the prestigious Kassel State Orchestra in Germany. Over 200 students and outside guests were in attendance as the group performed, discussed their instruments, and answered questions. One student had the opportunity to try his hand at conducting the ensemble, which resulted in quirky, fun filled performance, to the delight of the audience. Afterwards, each musician worked independently with small groups of specialized music students, helping them to hone their craft. Dr. Lisa Urkevich, Chair of the Dept. of Music and Drama said, “The event was a great success. It provided a wonderful opportunity for our students to interact with musicians of the finest caliber, learn about other cultures, and expand their horizons. Our thanks goes to the German Embassy for their efforts in keeping these quality arts alive and sharing them with our community.”

Syria Receives Hope at AUKThe Cooperation Club at the American University of Kuwait (AUK) hosted an event titled ‘Syria of Hope’ to raise awareness on the humanitarian situation in Syria at the AUK Auditorium.Many members of the AUK community attended to show support and raise hope. The event featured several renowned guests, who contributed to the event with poems, songs, and talks.The Cooperative Club Vice President, Shahad Al-Enazi, started the event by speaking about the suffering of Syria, and how the ‘Syria of Hope’ event is intended to highlight the plight of the Syrian people.

للسنة الثالثة على التوايل، احتشد أكرث من 20 الف متفرج يف »مارينا كريسنت«، ملتابعة احلدث الذي بات عنوانًا للمتعة واالثارة يف الكويت، »ثالث ريد ُبل فلوغتاغ« الذي اقيم برعاية وحضور اللواء فيصل اجلزاف رئيس جملس االدارة املدير العام للهيئة

العامة للشباب والرياضة.وقد شارك 29 فريقا يضم كل منها 4 اشخاص خاضوا غمار النسخة الثالثة، وحصد فريق دراغون فالي الفوز.

اجلدير بالذكر أن "ريد ُبل فلوغتاغ” أو "يوم الطريان” باألملانية هو مسابقة عاملية جتمع ما بني الشجاعة والقدرة العقلية، اذ يتوجب على كل فريق ان يبتكر مركبة تقلع بالطيار من املدرج بغية حتقيق اطول مسافة ممكنة لدى الهبوط يف املياه.

وزن الطائرة يجب أال يتعدى 180 كلغ، وميكن ان تصنع من اي مادة، بدءا من الورق ووصوال اىل التيتانيوم، على اال يزيد عرضها على 8 امتار، ومينع اعتماد حمرك او اي مصدر دفع، فاالعتماد يكون فقط على قوة دفع اعضاء الفريق الواحد.

Always eat a hearty breakfast, even if you just choose to have a granola bar or banana. Also, never skip meals. For those late-night cravings, try healthier alternatives such as pre-cut vegetables and fruit, nuts, pita bread, or string cheese so you are not tempted to choose unhealthy snacks. Most college dining services offer an array of salads and other greens, so availability should not be a problem!

Feeling Stressed?Try Mindfulness.What are you doing, thinking, and feeling in this very moment? Most people are typically consumed by thoughts of the past and the future rather than living in the present moment. We think excessively about things that have happened in the past. We also have the bad habit of thinking too much about the future including what we have to do at work, upcoming family obligations, and school responsibilities. The problem with living in the past and future is that it tends to cause unnecessary stress and worry because we can’t do much to change the past and much of the future remains uncertain. In order to reduce this needless stress, we should focus on the present moment. This process of focusing on the present is called, mindfulness.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the ancient process of focusing on the present moment using all of your senses (i.e., vision, hearing, touch, taste, and smell) and without judgment (e.g., thinking of something as good or bad).

How do I do it?

Here are some mindfulness practices you try:

1- Meditation: Meditation can be a very simple process and the nice thing about it is that is an effective way to reduce worry and stress and it can be done just about anywhere. For beginners, one way to start is to simply close your eyes, take in long, deep breaths (in through your nose for 5 seconds, hold for 2 seconds, and out through your mouth for 5 seconds) and focus all of your attention entirely on your breathing. The challenge is maintaining your focus on your breathing because typically your mind will wander. It is fine if your mind does wander, just let go of the thought and bring your focus back to your breathing. This process will help slow down racing thoughts and leave you feeling more relaxed and present-focused.

2- Focus using your all of your senses: Practice the deep breathing described above and while using all of your senses, focus your attention on a particular object or your surroundings more generally. Describe in great detail what you are observing (e.g., a particular ray of sunlight, a shadow, or a tree). Next, use your sense of hearing to notice the sounds around you. Do you hear voices or traffic or maybe the wind? Using your sense of touch, what does the object feel like or if you are observing something in the distance, what do you imagine it might feel like? Finally, if the object is edible, slowly taste it and notice the exact flavors and sensations of eating or drinking it. It is important not to judge whatever you are observing; just describe it. Over time, this practice will help you live more presently in the moment.

3- Use your time mindfully: Living in Kuwait, we spend a lot of time waiting; we wait in traffic, in long lines, and for other people. Rather than getting annoyed and wishing the light would turn green or that the elevator would hurry-up and arrive, for example, take that time as an opportunity to practice mindfulness. Appreciate the opportunity to have nothing to do and just focus on your breathing or what is happening around you in that moment.

These ideas may seem strange at first as they tend to conflict with our fast-paced society and busy lives. However, I suggest practicing these techniques for at least 10 minutes per day and with time, you will likely notice decreased stress, less worry about the future, and greater contentment with the present.

Phobia vs. FearOraib AlfozanThey say fear is a state of mind, and one by which your heartbeats increase, your pulse quickens and you are paralyzed by your own thoughts. By contrast, phobia is a drastic level of trepidation which deters you from living a normal life. Sometimes fear takes control and it could happen at any moment. However, can we place fear in the same category as phobia?

The difference between fear and phobia is that fear is an instinctive response to danger or a sudden trigger alerting our minds to a possible threat; phobia is the steady increase of an irrational apprehension that maims a person’s ability to lead a normal life. The key word describing a phobia is ‘irrational’, because often a person may respond through exhibiting fear and by allowing it to overcome them despite knowing that there is no ‘rational’ danger. Although to the person experiencing the phobia it is anything but irrational, outsiders will take note that the subject is not in any real danger.

How does a phobia develop? It takes a traumatic event to trigger the fear response in our minds. If a person undergoes a trauma when faced with a certain object or situation, their level of distress will retain a memory of the exact moment they were put in such a state. Thus in future, when faced with the same obstacle that triggered the original trauma, their bodies and minds will go into full defense mode causing them to lockdown in extreme cases. Notice though the difference between when a person is scared after hearing a loud sudden noise in the middle of the night, and a person being too afraid to move when spotting a spider on the wall. The first person’s natural instinct was to feel afraid as it is unnatural to hear a sudden noise at that time of night, it could be a signal to danger or a threat and the fear response instantly takes over and presents one of two outcomes: a person’s instinct will either be to fight back or flee.

The second person’s reaction may be seen as irrational since a spider on the wall presents a minimal threat. The second person may have to face spiders at different points in their lives, no matter where they are and if they do not grasp control over their fear then it may result in embarrassing situations or, at an ultimate extreme, fatal results. What if that person spots a spider during a job interview? While driving a car? Or crossing the street? It is easy to see the seriousness of the situation if one does not learn to control their phobias. What happens to a person when they have a phobia? They are paralyzed by fear, unable to function and will do whatever it takes to avoid the object of their fear. This impacts their lives and sometimes, more often than not, it prevents them from leading a normal life. Thus in this case, their phobia has taken hostage of them. To simply have fears or be afraid is not life impacting, it is a normal response in certain situations. The difference is whether or not the fear response stops after the threat has been determined or removed or whether the fear response gains power over the person.

So are fear and phobia interrelated? No. Everyone feels afraid sometimes but to develop a phobia means the fear has taken full control of you. At the end of the day, it is mind over matter. Will you let it rule your life?
