We've got a whole array of great acts lined up - fromguitar-supremo / singer songwriter Jake Morley to the folk rock7-piece Songs From the Blue House to the comedy skiffle duoThe Ouse Valley Singles Club to foot-stomping blues rocksters,The Back Porch Band. Plus loads more besides. The AcousticSessions will be a great event to chill out, have a picnic andenjoy some superb live acoustic music. Editor’s NoteHello all, and welcome to the June edition of theStowmarket and District Flyer.

I hope that you all enjoyed the sunny weather over theweekend of the 23rd of May, and I hope we havemore of the same for the upcoming Bank Holiday.

Stow Fest starts this month and will provide us all withsome much needed entertainment. See our What's onguide for more information on the line up.

We've made some changes this month and now onlyhave 2 Mono pages in the Flyer, this is due to our trad-er section expanding and breaking out onto a second

We've included a World Cup pull out for you this month. You can keep track of allthe games, scores and dates, so you have no excuse for missing an Englandgame and supporting your home Nation.

Finally, do you know anyone with a Business in Combs?? We are looking to coverthis area and are looking for advertisers to come on board with us to make thishappen......adverts start from only £27 a month and we will happily cater for anyBusiness. Please get in touch, if you, or someone you know, is interested.

As everyone will have noticed we have changed governmentrecently and the new Chancellor of the Exchequer GeorgeOsbourne has announced 22 June as his first Budget - 2010Budget Mark Two.The actual content of the 2010 Budget Mark Two will provideplenty of scope for speculation, with some of the expectedmeasures being:

VAT will go up to 20% - it is fast and would raise lots ofmoney. At the Treasury press conference, prime minister DavidCameron said it was "not something we plan to do" but added thattaxpayers would have to "wait for the first Budget" to find out if itwould happen

The main rate of Corporation Tax will be cut, possibly withthe abolition of the small companies' rate and of the annual investment allowance to pay for it. This will impact significantly onsmall businesses as the Corporation Tax rate could rise to 25%.

Increase in the rate of CGT on non-business assets - possibly from the day of the Budget to 50% from the current 18%

Employees' National Insurance Contributions (NIC) will goup, but not employers' NIC

The personal income tax allowance will increase in the general direction of £10,000 but it is anticipated that it will take several years (probably five years) to reach this level

The increase in the Inheritance Tax Rate nil-rate band won'thappen

The new Government has inherited a large budget deficitand will need to reduce this significantly over the life of theparliament. As a result tax payers will potentially face highertax bills. Tax payers and small business owners will need toreview their current tax position and take advantage wherepossible of tax reliefs still available and look to reduce costswithin the business and maximise productivity. We provide a full service reviewing yours and your business'tax affairs advising of favourable elections and assisting inavoiding potential pitfalls. For small businesses we recommend a sound accounting system providing an up todate statement of the profitability and cashflow of the business and an on-going estimate of potential tax liabilities, nobody likes nasty surprises in January. If you would like to speak to us for a free initial consultationand review, please contact us on 01449 798285 or email [email protected]

Booster Seats urgently wanted In only a few weeks the Children from Chernobyl will be withus in Needham Market for their respite visit. Having nowreceived the details of the children we find the majority ofthem are quite small and we now find ourselves in urgentneed of Booster seats for them to use whilst they are here. Ifyou have one you could donate or lend us for the month ofJuly it would be much appreciated as to have to buy 20 is ofthem would use up money we would rather spend on thechildren. Seats can be dropped in at the Charity Shop in theHigh street Needham Market or alternatively you can call meand I will be happy to come and collect. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those whohave donated clothing for the children, unfortunately somecontributions were left at the Charity shop without any con-tact details so I apologise for not sending a personal thankyou for these donations. Some of you may be aware that Kevin Parker is undertaking abike ride from London to Paris at the end of June to raisefunds for this years visit. With this being our largest group yet of24 children we have quite a target to achieve. The bike rideis taking place over only three days, that's over a hundredmiles each day! You can follow his progress at www.justgiv-ing.co.uk/kevparker . Lastly, we are aiming to send each child home with a shoebox of basic first aid items that all of us take for granted butthat these children just do not have access to. If you canhelp by donating one or more of these items there is a "dropbox" in our Charity Shop and all contributions will be mostgratefully received. We are looking for: Plasters, Strepsils,Lockets, Chapsticks, Bonjela, Lyclear or Fullmarks solution,Vicks vapour rub, Calpol, Cough mixture (age 6 plus) &Drapolene cream.

Wedding Wear Amnesty ForStowmarket Hospice Shop

With the summer wedding season well under way, why notdonate your old outfit to your local St Elizabeth Hospiceshops? The Hospice is holding a three-month long weddingwear amnesty this summer during which people are asked todonate the wedding clothes they no longer need. The outfitswill then be resold to raise money for the charity, which costs£5.9 million a year to run. From June to the end of August alleleven Hospice shops throughout East Suffolk will be takingdonations, these include the one in Bury Street, Stowmarket. Then a special wedding department will be set up at two ofthe Hospice shops - those at Dog's Head Street, Ipswich, andHigh Street, Saxmundham, to sell the collection for peoplelooking to revamp their wedding outfit this year.Hospice retail sales manager Jason Rudderham said: "Awoman's wedding dress is a precious item, so why not con-sider giving it as an extra special gift to your local Hospiceshop after it has been worn. It will be gratefully received andwill help us to continue to raise funds to care for our patientsand support their families and carers."It is not just wedding dresses that can be donated for resale. Why not dig out last year's hat, shoes or handbag you mayhave worn for the wedding reception, the groom's suit oreven the bridesmaid's dress she may have grown out of.St Elizabeth Hospice relies on the generosity of the local com-munity to help it raise funds to continue to provide its servicesto people throughout East Suffolk. To find out more or where your nearest shop is call 01473723600 or visit www.stelizabethhospice.org.uk

finding out about me andGuillemots - so overall it'sworked out pretty well! You played a gig in Londonrecently and you had PaulMcCartney come and sayhello just before you went on- did that make you nervousgoing out to perform in frontof him?[pause] ...yeah! [laughs] Imean, I wouldn't havechanged it for the world, one of my biggest heroesand influences on mymusic... it's funny, 'All YouNeed Is Love' came on theradio the other day and I stillcouldn't believe that it was the guy who played bass andsang on that record who came to see me!He said: [in his best Scouse voice] 'I'm just coming back tosay I might have to leave before the end, so if you see megoing it's not because I don't like it!'Finally, if John Lewis let you in for a 'Supermarket Sweep'style run around the store as a payment for the advertmusic, where would you heard first?I need some new clothes... I've been wearing the sameclothes for about two years! Except suits, I keep getting givensuits! I've got seven suits at the moment! So some new casu-alwear would be good!Fyfe Dangerfield - 'She's Always A Woman' and album 'Fly

Yellow Moon' are both out now.

You might not know his name oreven the band he's still the leadsinger of ('Guillemots') - but FyfeDangerfield is certainly makingwaves thanks to a recent TV com-mercial which featured his versionof "She's Always A Woman", origi-nally recorded by Billy Joel.We started by asking if hethought it was a bit of a risk cov-ering such a well-known andwell-loved song:Yeah, there was a lot to think

about in - I've always turned down any ads that I orGuillemots have been offered before for our own songs. Ithink there was just something with this song - it was a combi-nation: I liked the song, I liked John Lewis, and the ad itself. It's weird covering a song as I'm becoming much moreknown for this - on the other hand, it must be weird for BillyJoel as it's not his version on the commercial either. What do you think of the ad itself?I like it, I think it really works! Though it didn't make me weep- I know some people have, but I don't want to be responsi-ble for mass hysteria in the country in these trying times! You had one of our your own singles being released whenthe commercial appeared on TV, and that's had to makeway for 'She's Always A Woman' - does that frustrate you atall? It's been a bit of a roundabout - yes, in a way it's frustratingbut the other end of it is that because of the song, my album[Fly Yellow Moon] has been repackaged with that track, sonow a lot of people who would never have heard of me are
