“Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?”
Luke 17:18) Most of us live “easy” lives. We have food, shelter,
and clothing. We go on vacation every year and own a car or two. Most of us take this all for
granted. Did you ever notice that people with the least amount of possessions are usually the most
grateful? Shouldn’t this be the other way around? Take time every day
and thank God for all He has given you.
World Mission Sunday will be celebrated in our diocese on October 20. In his message for World Mission Sunday, the Holy Father noted that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the Apostolic Letter, Maximum Illud of Pope Benedict XV. The ti-tle, “that momentous and holy charge” refers to the mission set forth in the Gospel of Mark, “Go into the world and preach the Gospel to all creation.” (Mk 16:15)

Why should we care for the environment? This is the question that Salt and Light Television Network attempts to answer with the brilliant documentary se-ries Creation. Creation seeks to answer the deeper ques-tions about ecology and the environment within God’s reve-lation as found in his creation and the teachings of the Catholic Church. Each 30 minute episode will be presented at North American Martyrs Church hall on 6 Friday evenings throughout the year beginning at 7 pm with discussion to follow. The first episode titled Sense of Wonder will be held on Oct. 18 at 7 pm. Other dates will be Nov. 22, Jan. 31, Feb. 28, March 27, and May 15. Catholic Support for those Fighting Addictions Worcester Diocese Calix Society meeting takes place on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 am. (next one is Oct. 19), with the potential for Mass and Adoration either before or after. The location is on the sec-ond floor of the Emmaus Center across from Sacred Heart Parish in Webster. Calix is a fellowship that provides Catho-lic support for those seeking freedom from the slavery of addiction, and for their families and friends who also suf-fer. A key mission of the Calix Society is to lead members back to the rich sacramental life of the Catholic Church, by “substituting the cup that stupefies with the one that sancti-fies.” For more information, contact Kyle at 508-887-2225,

LITURGY OF THE WORD
HOMILY
FIRST READING 2 KGS 5:14-17
Naaman went down and plunged into the Jordan seven times at the word of Elisha, the man of God. His flesh became again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean of his leprosy.
Naaman returned with his whole retinue to the man of God. On his arrival he stood before Elisha and said, "Now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel. Please accept a gift from your servant."
Elisha replied, "As the LORD lives whom I serve, I will not take it;" and despite Naaman's urging, he still refused. Naaman said: "If you will not accept, please let me, your servant, have two mule-loads of earth, for I will no longer offer holocaust or sacrifice to any other god except to the LORD."
RESPONSORIAL PSALM PSALM 98
SECOND READING 2 TM 2:8-13
Beloved: Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David: such is my gospel, for which I am suffering, even to the point of chains, like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. Therefore, I bear with everything for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, together with eternal glory. This saying is trustworthy: If we have died with him we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him. But if we deny him he will deny us. If we are unfaithful he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.
GOSPEL LK 17:11-19
As Jesus continued his journey to Jerusalem, he traveled through Samaria and Galilee. As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him. They stood at a distance from him and raised their voices, saying, "Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!" And when he saw them, he said, "Go show yourselves to the priests." As they were going they were cleansed. And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan. Jesus said in reply, "Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?" Then he said to him, "Stand up and go; your faith has saved you."
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all things
visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only
Begotten Son of God, born of the Father be-
fore all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit
was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and be-came man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the
right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the
giver of life who proceeds from the Father
and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic
Church. I confess one baptism for the for-giveness of sins and I look forward to the res-
urrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
