Kateri’s Kitchen Food Pantry is hoping to reopen on Saturday, May 16. Donations of nonperishable food items
are welcome and can be left in the classroom outside Kateri's Kitchen. Some suggestions are: Oatmeal,
Jelly/Jam, Juice (bottled or boxed), Mayonnaise, Coffee, Ketchup, Pasta Sauce, Canned tuna, Canned or
instant potatoes, Cookies/Crackers.

4th Sunday of Easter The shepherd calls his own sheep by name. (John 10:3)
G ood Shepherd Sunday often brings bucolic scenes to mind. Picture a well-groomed shepherd, crook in hand, seated peacefully in lush, green pastures, surrounded by
docile sheep. It’s beautiful, isn’t it? But such an image falls short on two counts. First, shepherd and flock are often dirty and
decidedly not peaceful. Second, Jesus called himself a “shepherd” as a rebuke to the Jewish leaders who had just rejected him and cast out a man he had cured of blindness. A true shepherd, Jesus told them, knows his sheep well and leads them with care. And Jesus, the good shepherd, goes so far that he “lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).
We can read Jesus’ words here as a course correction for his opponents, but we can learn something for ourselves as well. For we are all shepherds for God’s people in one way or another. We are all called to care for his people by following in Jesus’ footsteps. Our “flock” may include our children, our parents, or our catechism class. We may be quiet shepherds welcoming a new family at church or mentoring a coworker. But no matter who is in our flock, we need to remember that the sheep belong to Jesus and not to us. He treasures each one of them and wants us to reflect his own love and self-sacrifice.
So ask yourself, “How well do I know my sheep? Do I know the names of my coworkers or fellow parishioners? Do I know the challenges my loved ones are facing?” Sometimes we are so busy with our own affairs that we overlook the hurt, weariness, or fear in someone right next to us. But following Jesus’ example, we can set aside our concerns, “call them by name,” and listen to their needs. Perhaps we can even lead them to a place of peace. That’s one small way to be a shepherd for God’s sheep.

This weekend was meant to be a time of celebration and joy. Please join us in praying for the children and their families who would have received their First Holy Communion on Saturday and Sunday. May they feel the love of Jesus in their hearts as they wait to receive Him into their bodies.

Quarantine Qualms... Last Sunday morning, after celebrating the Third Sunday of Easter Mass, I ventured to my parents house for a brief visit. Due to the fact I hadn’t seen them in quite some time because of my precautionary quarantine, I decided to visit them from their back deck. We had a wonderful conversation through their screen door! My first question was to ask them if they had watched the live-streamed mass I had just celebrated. Their response was less than I had hoped for. They both lamented that it was hard to hear a good portion of it. I’m sure many of you who watched shared their sentiments. The truth of the matter is that afterwards many kind parishioners offered assistance to help us try and rectify the audio deficiencies we experienced. During Holy Week and Easter we were blessed to have a professional videographer livestream all of our celebrations. However, professional videographers, should not and do not work for free, and when you factor in a substantial decrease in collection revenue because of an unexpected worldwide pandemic, you’re left to do the best you can with what you have! Rest assured we’ll do everything within our means to enhance the quality of all our live-streamed liturgical celebrations moving forward. In case you might have missed it, at the end of my homily, I mentioned the magnificent parade in honor of Father Gee last weekend. Personally, I was moved to the point of tears, as I watched so many in the community show up in droves to express their unwavering appreciation, admiration, respect and the tremendous love they have for him! What an awesome tribute to a humble servant who most deserves it! As Saint Augustine aforementioned, “Faith is believing what you cannot see, the reward of faith is seeing what you believe.” Father Gee is a man of splendid faith and each of you through your generous love and support, manifested in a very tangible way, the Perfect Love Christ has for this incredibly beloved pastor of North American Martyrs parish. As we continue to deal with the many quarantine qualms that will inevitably manifest themselves before this pandemic is behind us, I urge you not to lose the beautiful spirit of generosity you all possess! In the midst of crisis, it’s generous love that conquers in the end and wins! To each of you who have and will continue to support this extraordinary parish through your own prayers and charitable support, I both commend and thank you! Father Fraini
PRAYER IN TIME OF PANDEMIC
God, whose Only Begotten Son bore the weight of human suffering for our salvation, hear the prayers of your Church for our sick brothers and sisters and deliver us from this time of trial. Open our ears and our hearts to the voice of your Son: Be not afraid, for I am with you always. Bless all doctors and nurses, researchers and public servants; give us the wisdom to do what is right and the faith to endure this hour, that we might gather once again to praise your name in the heart of your Church, delivered from all distress and confident in your mercy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
