WHILE BEHIND BARS, we named our company. ‘Steam Donkey’ an incredibly fun bike path in Cumberland BC, Vancouver Island is where this all started nearly 2 years ago now. With a family on the way, we craved a new path, one that would feed our desire to work hard into all hours of the night if needed, one that our little man can come along on, one that would be a great ride, one that we can and certainly are proud to be dropping in on here in Kimberley BC, in the East Kootenays.

IN THE DARK is in the past. It is time for some transparency. Open the shutters and let the light shine in. We are about conversations and relationships. Where do the beans come from? Ask us. How do we run our factory? Come for a tour. What do we do on the weekend? Hop in and find out.

Direct trade is a buzzword. We like our buzzes to mean something.

Direct trade is relationship coffee. We are building our relationships, one at a time. Diego Chavarria is a 7th generation Nicaraguan farmer and Canadian Citizen with a wealth of knowledge about quality, sustainable coffee growing, and a deep well of stories about adventure and resilience in the face of adversity. Our relationship coffee starts with us making the trip to the source, sharing a meal, learning and listening to stories over a cup of coffee, or perhaps a bottle of wine.
