Please notify senior staff of any flight bookings or any arrivals/departures to/from the Boarding School, at least a week prior to travel. Page 18

First Day

As school starts on Monday 4th Sep-tember, Boarders will be required to arrive at some point during Sunday 3rd September, before 9pm.

If you need to make any transport or travel arrangements for your arrival please ensure that you or your par-ents/guardians contact staff well in advance to ensure that we can accom-modate your requests.

Induction

New students will be inducted on arrival to the Boarding School and usually-will be appointed a boarder who is willing to guide them in following the boarding school routine. If your parents/guardians would like a tour of the boarding and school facilities, this can also be arranged.

Boarding School Trips

As a boarding school we do plan some day outings and activities throughout the year. We do trips in to London for those who want to see the famous sights. Some of the trips we did last year also included the beach, ice skat-ing, swimming at the local pool and paint balling. There is also trips to other churches and youth church events.

If you would like us to plan for a particular trip please let staff know with plenty of warning or speak to the appointed Social Coordinator amongst the boarders. We usually try our best to arrange a trip which has been requested, if logistically it can work.

There will be a Boarding School calendar with proposed trip dates, so have your ideas ready.

Other Shops

Boarders can also visit some of our local shops like ASDA, Sainsbury’s and restaurants like Mc Donald's and Pizza Hut. Boarders are free to go out in groups after school. What if I am sick???

If you are not feeling well you need to tell your room mate or a staff member who will assess you. In the case of you being not able to attend school, you will need to remain in your room for the rest of the day. A staff member will bring you food and you will not be required to go to study time or worship.

If you require a doctor, a staff member will make an appointment and accompany students to the local GP at Garston Medical Centre.

No medication can be given by staff without parents/guardian written permis-sion unless prescribed by a medical practitioner.

All medical records are confidential and will be locked away.

All students can be accompanied to dental, orthodontic and optical checkups when requested.

There are maybe times when you feel upset, lonely or unfairly treated. The staff are always there to listen to you, but if you want to talk to somebody else, there is a list of people who you can contact.

What if I see someone doing something wrong?

If you see someone hurting someone else, breaking a rule, or doing anything that you think is wrong, don’t be afraid to tell someone. It is never good to be quiet. When you don’t speak up against an action you are allowing it to happen. Even if you may not be involved in the wrong doing, it is in your best interest to tell a member of staff. It may be difficult to speak up when you see something wrong, but the school staff is on your side, and will do what they can to protect you from anything that may happen. This in-cludes keeping what you said anonymous and confidential. The first person you can talk to is a member of the boarding school staff, but if you feel that you can’t talk to them there are others that you can talk to: Your house brother or sister Other school staff members The Head Teacher Child line (phone 0800 1111) Ofsted (phone 08456 014772) Independent Listener: Pr Guy 01923221544

Sometimes it is best to put your complaint in writing or to ask a staff to make a record to make the complaint more formal. Each complaint we receive will be considered seriously and as much as possible action will be taken and feedback returned. The full

Boarders are allowed to wear jewelry that is of a discreet and personal nature and minimal make up that looks natural but not too obvious, out of school hours. Belongings, Passports and Money

We advise all boarders to keep their valuables in the Boarding School safe at all times from theft or loss. Valuables include; cash, expensive jewellery, passports and visa documents. When you arrive you will be able to obtain a room key and/or a food locker key in exchange for a deposit or £10 each key, which you will get back when your keys are returned.

However, we strongly advise that valuable things such as passports, money in particular should be kept in the Boarding School Safe, inside the office.

At the sound of the fire alarm, all boarders must proceed to the meeting point (car park) outside the building where you should assemble in two rows—boys and girls. Instructions on fire safety are posted on the main notice boards and signs for exiting are clearly visible. Fire instructions are also posted in all bedrooms.
