Dear Parents, Friends and Students of St Vincent’s School,

Welcome to Term 4; great to see so many *bright eyes and bushy tails*. Thank you for your prayers whilst my

husband Tony and I were away travelling the world. We had a wonderful time and we didn’t get lost, I believe due

to your prayers. It’s wonderful to see other places but even more wonderful to return home, the best place in the

world. Thank you for your welcome upon my return. Should you be interested in where we travelled, you are

welcome to read my (rather clumsy) blog, the address being karmyst.wordpress.com

Thank you to Stephen Blake for assuming leadership of the school in my absence and to Kirsty Byrne for taking on

both the Assistant Principal roles in that time. We are blessed to have Stephen and Kirsty on our staff; both are terrific

leaders and I always knew the school was in good hands. Certainly, the Principal’s newsletter piece during my leave

was highly entertaining.

Athletics Carnival: This term promises to be super busy with many things going on. We started the term with our

Athletics Carnival. Miss Terri Robbins did a ‘fantabulous’ job of preparing all the students, as well as skilfully

organising and co-ordinating the carnival run over two days. My sincere thanks to Terri Robbins for her efforts and

all staff, parents and friends who helped. Your collective efforts ensured we had a successful Athletics Carnival.

Congratulations to the students who won medals and well done to all participating students. It’s always a pleasure

to see students trying their best and celebrating their effort and the effort of others.

School Production: It’s all systems go for the school production of Peter Pan. Notes have been sent home with

important information; please ensure you have found the notes and refer to them. Our production will take place on

Saturday 28th October with a matinee and twilight performance. After careful research, we chose Kenny Baptist

College Auditorium as the venue.

All students are expected to be a part of the production, which is part of the Arts Curriculum. I have seen a practise

and was so proud of all the students; it promises to be a lot of fun. I look forward to seeing our families at both

performances, celebrating the fruits of your child/children’s labour.

School Pick Up Protocol: Please ensure you notify teachers when picking children up during school hours. At school,

all visitors must go to the School Office and sign the appropriate paperwork. If off site, like a sports carnival, parents

must notify the class teacher they are taking their child after the event. Parents wishing to pick up their child during

an event must provide a written note, as per usual practice. If someone other than a parent is picking a student up,

parents must provide the school with notification. All staff take their duty of care of your children very seriously.

Please ensure you follow school pick up protocol, thus avoiding stress and embarrassment for yourselves, your

children and staff.

Kindy Playground: We have a gorgeous new play area in the Kindy playground. This is the result of a number of years

of planning with many people involved along the way. The area is intended as an inquiry based play area where

children can freely use their imaginations. Thank you to the playground committee and to Mrs Byrne for finally

realising our Kindy playground dream.

Reminder: Parents and community members please remember ALL playground equipment is out of bounds unless a

teacher is on duty. This means before and after school as well as outside of school hours; the play equipment should

not be used by anyone. This rule is in the best interest of safety for all.

Fun test: The newsletter is an important means of communication; additionally information is sent out via text, email

and through our FaceBook page. Yet parents are failing to read the information. With this in mind I have decided to

run a poll. If you are reading this email, I sincerely thank you in the first instance, and in the second instance ask you

to send a note to your child’s class teacher addressed to Mrs Messineo with the following message in it, “East, West,

home’s best.” Ensure you have written your child/children’s names on the note. This is to be done by Tuesday 24th

October. I will publish the results in the next newsletter, fingers crossed the results will be positive.

Respect and dignity: Always remember we are a community bound to each other by our love for the students of our

school; we all want the best for each student. If we all remember this and treat each other with dignity and respect,

our students will be the ultimate beneficiaries. As adults, we set the examples for our children. May our examples

always be dignified and respectful.

Thank you to Mr Brad Whittaker for teaching 4 Gold whilst Miss Alicia Paparella was on leave.

Congratulations to Alicia (née Paparella)and Joel Elias on their recent nuptials. On behalf of St Vincent’s School

Community, I extend to Alicia and Joel our heartfelt well wishes and blessing for a wonderful life together. We look

forward to welcoming Mrs Elias back next week.

Condolences to the Barjarktarevic, Da Silva and Iriks families on the passing of their beloved Oma. Eternal rest grant

onto her, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.

God Bless … Karmela Messineo – Principal

All Saints Day Mass – Wednesday 1st November: On Wednesday 1st November, we will celebrate All Saints Day with a

Mass at 9am. Classes from Kindy to Year 2 will attend the Mass and it will be the first time our Kindy students will join in a

Eucharistic celebration with their peers. On the Feast of All Saints we remember the men, women and children, including

many we have known, who are now in Heaven. We will continue to be inspired by the qualities they revealed in their lives:

humility, a concern for justice, gentleness, purity of heart, mercy, and courage. We take comfort in knowing that from their

home in heaven they intercede for us still. We hope you will be able to join us for this special Mass.

All Soul’s Day Mass – Thursday 2nd November: On Thursday 2nd November, classes from Year 3 to 6 will attend the 9am

Mass to celebrate All Soul’s Day. All Soul's Day is a day of remembrance for friends and loved ones who have passed away.

While the Feast of All Saints is a day to remember the glories of Heaven and those there, the Feast of All Souls reminds us

of our obligations to live holy lives and that there will be purification of the souls of those destined for Heaven. We hope

you will join us to pray for all of the souls destined to be received into Heaven.

Year 3 Reconciliation - Sacramental Program Dates – 2017

• Reconciliation Retreat – Tuesday 7th November 9am – 3pm

• Reconciliation Family Workshop – Tuesday 14th November at 6pm

• Reconciliation Rehearsal – Thursday 16th November 3:30 – 4:15pm

Early Childhood Playgrounds: Over the holidays a lot of fun and exciting new additions were created

in our Kindy Playground by Ryt Angle Carpentry. We would like to thank Ben and his team for

developing an awesome nature playground for us. Thank you to our fabulous Early Childhood Team

for developing the playground plans. Also, we had a number of early childhood staff who pulled on

their gardening gloves and planted over 40 plants in our Pre-Primary playground. Thank you to Mr

Holbrook, Mrs Nolan, Mrs Lazzara, Miss Wylie, Miss Van Ryt and Mrs Ikin for your help. The

playground has been brought to life with some greenery which was kindly donated by LD Total. Thank

you LD Total, we truly appreciate your generosity and our children are loving their new play spaces

and future hidey holes!

ADMIN

Faction Athletics Carnival

A fantastic couple of days were had by all at St Vincent’s Faction Athletics Carnival last Thursday and Friday. The

sun was shining and the competition fierce as the students competed in a range of events from sprint races to

turbo javelin throwing. The Carnival concluded with the annual Parent vs Students vs Teacher race, in which it

hurts me deeply to say that the parents again won.

Congratulations to our overall winners De Paul (Green Faction)!!!

A huge thank you to Miss Terri Robbins for her fabulous organisation of the two days and to all parents and

teachers who assisted on either day of the Carnival. Without your help the Carnival would not have been such

a success.

Message from Online Canteen

Regarding the Service Fee REASON FOR CHANGE – For the best interest of our users.

A high proportion of our families were paying much higher fees than necessary. Over 95% of our families order

within 12 hours of canteen’s cut off, paying by Credit Card for orders under $10. These orders incurred a $0.28

fee per order (Credit Card orders, under $10). This fee has now been REMOVED and replaced by a Service Fee

of $0.19 for all orders placed via QuickCliq. Along with a reduction is Credit Card surcharges.

As a result, the majority of our families will see a saving in the cost off ordering via QuickCliq. There will, of

course, be a small proportion of users that will not see a saving and we do apologise for the inconvenience

caused. Please also note that ordering online does save time and money for your school canteen. We actively

still support and give back to schools, students and families.

Steve Blake – Assistant Principal

PETER PAN PRODUCTION: Have you bought your tickets for Peter Pan next week?

Notes have gone home. Please refer to them for information.

URGENT – HELP NEEDED ON THE DAY!! Parking attendants needed at the

venue on the day (male or female).

A new videographer has been hired for this production. We are excited to see her work!

If you have problems ordering tickets online, please see Mrs Gaynor Cook in the School Office next week.

STUDENTS LEAVING: Please advise the School Office as soon as possible,

in writing, if your child/children will not be returning to St Vincents in 2018.

Thank you.

SPORTS NOTICES

FACTION ATHLETICS:

Congratulations to all competitors!!!

I was so proud of everyone!

I saw some brilliant jumps (I was very happy with

the Triple-Jump tricky feet patterns!) and throws

(pointing where you want it to go and leaning

right back!). The games and relays went so, so

well, I did not see anyone run the wrong way,

pass the ball to the wrong person OR drop the

baton. All of the practise must have paid off. I saw

some brilliant super-fast running in a straight line

from our younger students, and our older

students really showed a strive to achieve the

best they could in addition to some great displays

of sportsmanship after the finish line.

Thank you to all the students who stepped up to help the other year groups with their games and relays.

Thank you to all of the parents, staff and students that helped to ensure a smooth running couple of days. Your

help was invaluable. I have never worked at a school before where so many people are willing to put their

hands up and help. What an amazing community!

The results are as below (some very close ones!):
