“The peak of our storm season approaches and we have already witnessed the devastating impact of Hurricane Laura with more tropical storms brewing in the ocean. Other recently named disasters are the California wildfires and the explosion in Beirut. Their impacts will be long-lasting. Bishop Provost of the Diocese of Lake Charles described their situation after Hurricane Laura as dire with a lack of food, water, electricity and housing. We offer our prayers to all the families affected by these disasters.

In solidarity with our brothers and sisters, we join dioceses throughout the country to participate in Disaster Relief 2020, a voluntary special collection for the humanitarian, long-term recovery, and Church needs arising from these calamities. The funds collected

    Isaiah 55:6-9 | Philippians 1:20-24, 27 | Matthew 20: 1-16

    Gospel

Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing

with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vineyard. Going out about nine o’clock, the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.’ So they went off. And he went out again around noon, and around three o’clock, and did likewise. Going out about five o’clock, the landowner found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’

They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’

He said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard.’ When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.’

When those who had started about five o’clock came, each received the usual daily wage. So when the first came, they thought

that they would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against the land-owner, saying, ‘These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day’s burden and the heat.’

He said to one of them in reply, ‘My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?’ Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

    1. How do you feel about God’s justice as portrayed in this parable of the laborers in the vineyard? Do you think it was an act of generosity or was it wrong of the owner to pay them equally?

    2. We are all laborers in the same vine-yard, but do we all do the same amount of work? The answer is “No” but does it matter? How does your work compare to others? Thinking about the comparison, how do you feel about the differences between your work and theirs? Do you think the latecomers would have been glad to have been hired earlier in the day? To help you reflect on this, here are two example scenarios: 1) I would have worked all day if I had known there was work to do; and 2) I didn’t really want to work so I waited until late in the day thinking no one would hire me.

    3. Who is the landowner? Who is the foreman? Who are the last hired? Who are the first hired? (The answers to these questions are hidden in this bulletin.)

    Monday Eph 4:1-7, 11-13; Ps 19:2-3, 4-5; Mt 9:9-13 Tuesday Prv 21:1-6, 10-13; Ps 119:1, 27, 30, 34, 35, 44; Lk 8:19-21 Wednesday Prv 30:5-9; Ps 119:29, 72, 89, 101, 104, 163; Lk 9:1-6 Thursday Eccl 1:2-11; Ps 90:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 14 and 17bc; Lk 9:7-9 Friday Eccl 3:1-11; Ps 144:1b and 2abc, 3-4; Lk 9:18-22 Saturday Eccl 11:9—12:8; Ps 90:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 14 and 17; Lk 9:43b-45 Sunday Ez 18:25-28; Ps 25:4-5, 6-7, 8-9; Phil 2:1-11, or Phil 2:1-5; Mt 21:28-32

The real point to reflect upon is what happens the moment when the wages are paid. It is about the final judgment when you will see the balance between God’s justice and His mercy. It is God’s generosity that you should also be aware of. And now one final question, how generous are you?

The first of September, 36 new residents were welcomed to the seminary in Boynton Beach. A total of 122 seminarians are expected this year. The year began with COVID testing, Mass, and orientation to seminary life. Please pray for all of our seminarians.

Answers to Reflection questions on Page 5. How many questions did you answer correctly?

Landowner = GodForeman/Steward = ChristFirst hired = Dcribes and PhariseesLast hired = Tax Collectors and Sinners

Do you understand why those who were hired at different times were treated equally?

God is generous. He forgives sinners, seeks out the lost, and desires to bring everyone to the joys of everlasting life where we will all receive the same reward.

Recently, Bishop Noonan published a beautiful letter concerning the way that we follow Jesus. Here is a brief excerpt from it. The entire letter can be read on the diocesan website by following a link from the News Section of our website.

Within this heavenly kingdom, no one is excluded from God’s heart. We hope to live so that our heart goes beyond human boundaries that we see each other as a precious treasure and the meaning of life is found only in giving this treasure to each other. We are called to be open to the joyful newness of the Gospel. Pope Francis said, “Christians must be missionary disciples who share the Gospel with humility and respect.” “Christ is our peace,” the Holy Father said, “and in him every division is overcome; in him alone there is salvation for every person and all people.”

The entire letter can be read on the diocesan website by following a link from the News Section of our website.

Alpha Center for Women CollectionWith the loss of donations due to restrictions, the Alpha Center for Women has been struggling to keep up with demand for their baby supplies. To assist with their needs, on September 26/27 there will be a collection of baby toiletries ( shampoo, powder, rash ointment, unscented baby wipes, etc.) and financial donations. Before and after weekend Masses, Right to Life volunteers will greet you outside of the narthex main doors to take your donations.

Baby Bottle BoomerangWondering if the Baby Bottle Boomerang is going to take place? It certainly is! However, it will be a bit different this fall. Bottles will be distributed on October 10/11 and must be returned October 24/25. To stay with our guidelines, this is the only weekend the bottles can be accepted. More information will be published the weekend before the collection.

Feast Day of St. Vincent de Paul

Sunday, September 27, St. Vincent de Paul CollectionSince the canonization of St. Vincent de Paul in 1737, he has been known as the “Father of the Poor”. As a pastor, Vincent encouraged his parishioners to take food to neighbors in need and to minister to those who were sick. At St. Mark, Vincentians follow in the his footsteps. Your donations enable us to continue Vincent’s spirit as a powerful force to offer hope for those who live at the margins of society.

Please join us next weekend at the

10 AM Mass. The second collection

will help us continue Vincent’s work.

We thank God and pray for you!

This mission would not be possible

    without your generous contributions.

Our maintenance supervisor, Chris Morgan, resigned his position effective 9/17. Chris had just celebrated his eleventh year with St. Mark.

Today, we don't have to look far to find people suffering.

Amidst great advancements in medicine and the

psychological sciences, there is one glaring

    conclusion:

    We cannot heal ourselves.

    At the Virtual Healing Conference,

    we've curated over 50 presenters,

witness testimonies, and gifted healers to share with you

the truth and beauty of God's desire

    to heal all of humanity.

Every year on September 8th, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Pauline novices in the Novitiate Monastery in Lesniow, Poland, make their first religious profession. This year, two novices

from the American Province of the Pauline Fathers & Brothers have made their vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience and have finished their novitiate.

Congratulations to our brothers Waldemar and Joseph! May the Lord bless them and strengthen them and the Blessed Virgin Mary always keep them in Her motherly care. We also ask everyone to keep Br. Waldemar and Br. Joseph in your prayers!
