The Epiphany of the Lord

LOOKING IN THE RIGHT PLACES

“Appearances can be deceiving,” as the saying goes. As we celebrate the epiphania, the “appearing” of the eternal Word of God on earth, this is still true. What rapturous foresight must have filled Isaiah as he wrote the words we hear today. How, for four hundred years, they must have filled the hearts of the people of Israel with hope for the day when God’s glory would shine on them. How deceived some must have felt when the glory of God came to them in the lowliest and humblest of human lives. We have many expectations about how the divine presence will appear among us. But we can also set ourselves up, through these expectations, to miss the divine glory when it truly appears. We get caught up in looking for the star, forgetting that the star is not the divine sign, the babe is. It may take a persistent journey for us to come upon the true appearance of God’s glory in our lives: Jesus Christ.

Become an Angel Person in our Marriage Ministry

Baptism and Marriage are two of our most joyous sacraments. Both celebrate new life; that of life in Christ and of welcoming Christ into a marriage. When we attend these celebrations, there is much cheering, good wishes and often, a good party afterwards to continue the rejoicing.

At St. Louise, you can become a part of the Marriage ministry by becoming an “Angel” person who helps with wedding preparations and planning. We ask two people to serve as an Angel couple that help the newlyweds plan the Nuptial Mass, direct the rehearsal and attend the actual Wedding, making sure that all goes smoothly.

Our hope is that this ministry will include married couples that can mentor newlyweds as they live out their first year of marriage. When you talk to a parishioner who has been attending and been active in the Parish for decades, they often cite that the Parish is where they made friends with other young couples; raised their children, often with the children of the other couples. Church is where they prayed, played, rejoiced and mourned. A good marriage can be fostered in a Parish. A happy marriage is nurtured by Parish life. And you can be part of that process by volunteering for this meaningful and fun ministry.

If this sounds like a ministry that you would like to become involved with please contact Sister Nancy at:

HAVE YOU EVER SUFFERED THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE?

Then you know how much a person with compassion is needed to assist in the planning of the Funeral Mass.

Maybe you could be the person to assist the family in planning the services for their loved one. Meet with the family and help them through the process, obtain the information needed from the family about the deceased, set up the funeral mass, work with the celebrant, purify and put the sacred vessels away.

Pray and ask yourself is the Lord calling me to serve in this ministry?

If you would like to know more about the Funeral Intake Coordinators, Please contact:

DID YOU KNOW?

Common tricks strangers use to lure children Are you familiar with the news show segments testing children’s safety knowledge? They often feature “strangers” trying to lure children with offers of ice cream, modeling contracts, or other goodies. They know that while many children are taught to avoid strangers, they may not be taught to recognize abduction tactics. For more information on common tricks predators may use to lure children from

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, visit
