Amaladass Professorship in Criminal JusticeThe Amaladass Professorship builds on the Amaladass Fellowship, first established in 2009 in memory of the late legal practitioner Mr M. Amaladass by a friend.

C J Koh ProfessorshipNUS Law received a $2 million donation from retired lawyer and philanthropist, C J Koh, to set up the C J Koh Professorship in Law.

David Marshall ProfessorshipThe David Marshall Professorship was established in honour of Mr David Marshall, a pre-eminent criminal lawyer and also Singapore’s first Chief Minister and subsequent Ambassador to France.

Geoffrey Bartholomew ProfessorshipNUS Law launched the Geoffrey Bartholomew Professorship in honour of former Dean Prof Geoffrey Bartholomew.

Kwa Geok Choo Distinguished Visitors ProgrammeNUS Law established the Kwa Geok Choo Distinguished Visitors Programme in honour of Mdm Kwa Geok Choo. Under this programme, leading law academics are invited to Singapore each year to teach a course at NUS Law and give a public lecture on a topical legal issue.

Kwa Geok Choo Professorship in Property LawThe Kwa Geok Choo Professorship in Property Law was established in honour of Mdm Kwa Geok Choo to mark her achievements as a leading property lawyer.

Lionel A. Sheridan ProfessorshipNUS Law’s pioneer class of 1961 celebrated its 50th anniversary with the establishment of the Lionel A. Sheridan Professorship in honour of NUS Law’s founding dean. The NUS Law Class of 1961 kicked off the fundraising campaign and fundraising is still underway for its launch.

MPA Professorship in Maritime LawNUS Law received a gift from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore to endow a Professorship in Maritime Law. The objective is to bring to Singapore visiting professors and distinguished visitors in various maritime disciplines to conduct undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as seminars,specialist workshops and conferences for the maritime community in Singapore.

Peter Ellinger Visiting ProfessorshipNUS Law established the Peter Ellinger Visiting Professorship to honour Prof Peter Ellinger’s immense contribution to the development of legal education in Singapore.

Sat Pal Khattar Professorship in Tax LawNUS Law received a gift from Mr Sat Pal Khattar, ’66 LL.M. ’71 and family to establish the Sat Pal Khattar Professorship in Tax Law.

Lee Sheridan Legal Education FundThe fund, set up in honour of Prof Lionel A. Sheridan, the founding Dean of NUS Law, is used to fund visiting professorial appointments, scholarships and bursaries.

NUS Law FundThe fund enables the Dean to channel resources where they are most needed within NUS Law.

PROFESSORSHIPS

Allen & Gledhill Scholarship To commemorate the 110th year anniversary of the founding of the firm, Allen & Gledhill LLP established the Allen & Gledhill Scholarship to support financially needy and academically meritorious NUS Law students.

Class of 1986 Bennett Lam ScholarshipThe NUS Law Class of 1986 established a fund to provide scholarships to financially needy and academically meritorious NUS Law students. The fund is called the “Class of 1986 Bennett Lam Scholarship Fund” in memory of the donors’ late classmate Mr Bennett Lam.

BURSARIES

Allen & Gledhill BursaryAn anonymous donor made a gift of $150,000 to establish a bursary for NUS Law undergraduates. The donor is an NUS Law alumna and was a senior partner of Allen & Gledhill LLP who retired from the law firm at the end of 2009.

Class of 1980 BursaryThe NUS Law Class of 1980 gathered at a classmate’s house on 26 Oct 2007 for with an informal reunion, and to celebrate the launch of the Class of 1980 Bursary.

Class of 1982 BursaryThe NUS Law Class of 1982 celebrated their 30th anniversary at NUS Law on 1 Dec 2012. To mark the occasion, the class raised more than $200,000 at the event itself to establish the Class of 1982 Bursary.

Class of 1983 BursaryThe NUS Law Class of 1983 commemorated their 30th anniversary by coming together to establish the Class of 1983 Bursary.

OTHER FINANCIAL AID

Class of 1979 GrantIn conjunction with their 30th anniversary reunion on 14 Nov 2009, the NUS Law Class of 1979 raised funds to create the Class of 1979 Grant. The grant aims to help fund NUS Law students’ attendance at legal conferences and competitions, whether local or overseas, as well as overseas internships.

Class of 1984 GrantThe NUS Law Class of 1984 established a grant which aims to help fund NUS Law students’ attendance at legal conferences and competitions, whether local or overseas, as well as overseas internships.

Class of 1989 Financial Relief FundIn conjunction with their 20th anniversary reunion on 22 Aug 2009, the NUS Law Class of 1989 raised funds to donate a gift towards a Class of 1989 Financial Relief Fund. The objective of the fund is to provide urgent contingency assistance to students who face financial crisis or hardship at any point in time during their studies at NUS Law

Class of 1992 Pro Bono FundThe NUS Law Class of 1992 established a fund to support pro bono initiatives by NUS Law students to mark their 20th anniversary. They hope the fund will encourage more NUS Law students to be innovative in finding ways to be of service to the general public.

Class of 1995 AwardAt the 10th anniversary reunion of the NUS Law Class of 1995 on 23 Apr 2005, the class raised funds to establish the Class of 1995 Award which aims to help fund NUS Law students’ participation at legal conferences and competitions.

Class of 2013 Book GrantThis fund was established by the graduating NUS Law Class of 2013 with a significant contribution from the proceeds of their Law IV musical. The funds contributed will go towards helping financially needy NUS Law students.

Ella Cheong Student Loan FundThe fund is part of a gift from Hong Kong lawyer Ms Ella Cheong. NUS Law students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, may apply for interest-free loans to participate in student exchange programmes; to pursue a double degree programme (with an overseas component); or to participate in public events to contribute towards educational or professional development.

Ella Cheong Intellectual Property ScholarshipThe scholarship is part of a gift of $1 million from Ms Ella Cheong, one of the pioneers in the field of intellectual property in Asia. The scholarship aims to assist academically meritorious NUS Law students who are interested in the area of Intellectual Property Law.

H. L. Wee ScholarshipIn memory of the late Mr Harry L. Wee, his family made a gift to NUS Law to establish the H.L. Wee Scholarship. The fund will provide for one scholarship per academic year, with priority given to financially disadvantaged students.

K. K. Menon ScholarshipThis scholarship was established with a donation from Mr K. K. Menon’s family, who chose to honour his memory with this gift.

Kwa Geok Choo ScholarshipNUS Law established the Kwa Geok Choo Scholarship to identify and support highly talented students to pursue their graduate studies at NUS Law.

Lo Hwei Yen Memorial ScholarshipStephenson Harwood established the scholarship in honour of NUS Law alumna Ms Lo Hwei Yen, ’03, who passed away in the Mumbai terrorist attacks of 27 Nov 2008.

Riady ScholarshipThe Riady Family established a scholarship for Indonesian students who are interested in pursuing their graduate studies at NUS Law.

WongPartnership ScholarshipWongPartnership LLP established the scholarship to encourage NUS Law students who are interested to enter the Singapore legal profession and to practise law in Singapore

Wee Chong Jin Scholarship in LawThe family of the late Mr Wee Chong Jin, former Chief Justice of Singapore, made a donation to NUS Law to support academically meritorious students who are active in community or charity work and also display a spirit of sportsmanship and collegiality.

Helen Yeo BursaryMrs Helen Yeo, ’74, an NUS Law alumna and a veteran of the legal industry with 36 years of experience, made a gift of $200,000 to NUS Law for the purpose of establishing a bursary.

Kwa Geok Choo BursaryNUS Law established the Kwa Geok Choo Bursary to assist financially disadvantaged NUS Law students.

Tan Han Boon BursaryThis Bursary was established by Mr Tan Chong Huat, ’89 and is named in honour of his late father, Mr Tan Han Boon.

Tommy Koh BursaryThis bursary was made possible by Mr Francis Ng and Mrs Madeleine Ng, parents of one of NUS Law’s alumni. They named the bursary after Prof Tommy Koh in recognition of his contributions to NUS and Singapore.

Class of 1985 BursaryThe NUS Law Class of 1985 pooled their efforts to raise money for a bursary for needy students at their 20th anniversary reunion on 20 May 2005. At the reunion, they surprised the then Dean with a big cheque for $30,500 to establish the Class of 1985 Bursary.

Class of 1987 BursaryThe NUS Law Class of 1987 celebrated their 20th anniversary with a reunion dinner on 3 Aug 2007 and established the Class of 1987 Bursary.

LEGACY GIVING

H. L. Wee Mooting FundThis fund will help support NUS Law’s mooting activities and was made possible with a gift from the family of the late Mr Harry L. Wee.

Isabel Chng Mui Lin Intellectual Property Book GrantTo commemorate the significant contributions of late NUS Law alumna Ms Isabelle Chng ’90 to the Singapore patent system, and to celebrate her zest for life, her friends and colleagues have established a book grant in her memory. The fund will be used to aid needy NUS Law students who have taken, or will be taking up an intellectual property law course (preferably patents related) at NUS Law.

Law Club Book GrantThe Law Club Book Grant was established with the proceeds of a charity run organised by the NUS Law Club 31st Management Committee.

NUS Law Canada Exchange Bursary and NUS Law UVic Exchange ScholarshipThese two funds were established at the initiative of Associate Professor Victor V. Ramraj who wished to support student exchange activities to Canada. Funds were contributed by Prof Ramraj as well as his friends, ex-students and colleagues.

SCHOLARSHIPS Class of 1993 BursaryThe alumni from the Class of 1993 raised funds to establish the Class of 1993 Bursary to mark the 20th anniversary of their graduation from NUS Law.
