hhu.de The Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf invites applications for the position of a W2/W3 Professorship for Transcultural Studies (W2 according to the German remuneration system with an option of promotion to a W3 position after 5 years) We are seeking to appoint a person who is internationally renowned in cultural studies and transcultural research and has a focus in theory formation. We expect the development of and participation in interdisciplinary research projects as well as the willingness to participate in university administrative tasks. Requirements are a pertinent and successful PhD project, further academic work, documented by a “Habilitation” or by equivalent work, as well as experiences in university-level teaching, also in English. We also expect successful applications for third-party funding as well as internationally renowned publications. The position’s tasks include the organisation and development of the BA programme “Transcultural Studies”, which is offered in cooperation by the Departments of English and American Studies, Historical Studies, German Languages and Literatures, Jewish Studies/Yiddish, Classical Studies, Art History, Media and Culture Studies, Japanese Studies, Philosophy, Romance Languages and Literatures, and Social Sciences. The position will administratively be situated at the department best according to the professional focus of the successful applicant. Applicants will be hired in accordance with the general prerequisites pertaining to service law of section 36 of the North Rhine- Westphalia University Act (Hochschulgesetz NRW) which require an aptitude for teaching, exceptional competence in research, and additional scientific achievements. Female candidates are encouraged to apply; they will be given preference in cases of equal aptitude, ability, and professional achievements unless there are exceptional reasons for choosing another applicant. Applications from suitably qualified severely disabled persons or disabled persons regarded as being of equal status according to Book IX of the German Social Legal Code (SGB – Soziales Gesetzbuch) are encouraged.
