The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf is inviting applications for the position of a W3 Professorship in Machine Learning for Medical Data to be filled as soon as possible. Suitable candidates (m/f/d) have a background in machine learning. Applications from candidates (m/f/d) from adjacent fields, such as data science, data mining, or bioinformatics, are also welcome, provided that they have a strong background in machine learning, too. Suitable candidates (m/f/d) have extensive experience in applying techniques from machine learning to medical data. They must have an excellent track record of publications and acquisition of competitive third party funding in those areas. Examples for relevant application domains include single cell and multi-omics data analysis, image analysis, software as a medical device, and electronic health care records. This is a nonexhaustive list and other types of medical data are of interest as well. The professorship is part of a larger effort to establish a new Center of Digital Medicine and there will be excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with a wide range of research groups in medicine, computer science, and bioinfor- matics. The successful candidate (m/f/d) is expected to contribute to collaborative research efforts and to take a leading role in the Heine Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (HeiCAD). Teaching will be in German and English, and comprises also basic computer science courses. International candidates (m/f/d) are expected to acquire the ability to teach in German after a reasonable time frame. Conditions for employment are, in addition to general administra- tive conditions in accordance with § 36 of the North Rhine-West- phalia University Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen), an aptitude for teaching, exceptional competence in research, and additional scientific achievements. Female candidates are encouraged to apply; they will be given preference in cases of equal aptitude, ability, and professional achievements unless there are exceptional reasons for choosing another applicant.
