The last few years have been exciting limes for the club in Killenaulc, and 2010 is

proving to be no exception. On the playing field. particularly in hurling. things were

rarely, if ever belter. The parallels with twenty years ago arc intriguing. Killenuule's

recent emergence as the dominant force in the Division has once again coincided with

Tippcrury's return to hurling's top table. Seeking their fourth Divisiorwl Crown in five

years Killenaule must surely now be best placed to be the first Soulh side to capture the

Dan Breen Cup, since Mullinahonc in 2002. Six in a row South U21 Ilurting lilies. and

Iwo County U21 Hurling titles. are now bearing fruit at Senior level, with Killenaule

appearing in Iheireighlconseculivc final.

Matthew O'Donnell. the club is enjoying their best in Inter-County representation. With a

top class performance on Tuesday last in the Semi Final v Carrick Davins going to extra

time we expect to add our 3"' Title in four years in Fethard this evening Killenaule have

the essential blend of youth and experience in their side. With five not available of las I

year first fifteen & three more presently on the subs bench that will see only 7 oflast year

OfT the field, Killenaule GAA club is a very well oiled machine. A vibrant and active

committee under the stewardship ofClwirnmn I-Iugho Browne, functions with seamless

efficiency allowing for the smooth preparation and running of all teams. As we currently

exisl in Ihis recessionary climate, it's becoming more and more difficult to run a GAA

Club. Killenaule is no different than any other Club but is lucky 10 have a fine Runai Tadj

o Connell who isa guiding light & a very committed and genuine Memberdoingallthat

is good in the Club at grass roots & a Treasurer in James Simpson. with the sound

financial nous and business acumen, to time and time again, keep the club afloat

financially. The new club lotto, co-ordinated by Paul Guinan, launched in May 2009, has

been a great success to date has brought the community closer together and reached out to

those who have been on the periphery of the club, and theassocialion in general. Looking

forward. the club looks in good hands and win today, would be another step towards

reaching its great potential.

Carrick S"ans Carrick Swan have a proud tradition in Senior hurling in South Tipperary holding pride of place In the honours list with 21 titles. today we hope to make that 22.it has been 10 years since we last won the title and for a club such as Swan that is too long to be wailing. we won OUT first Senior title in 1933 when we beat a Boherlahan side thai h:ld dominated SOUlh Tipperary at that time. The club went from strength 10 strength and won:l further South title in 1935.we again won the title in 1936 and 1939 before the clubs greatest em in the forties when we monopolised the championship from 1944·1948 inclusive. during thm era we won the County Senior hurling title of 1947 becoming the first team from the South 10 do so when we were captained by the legendary Willie Wall. Further South titles came in 1950,1952,1958 and 1959.the si)l;ties unfortunatcly for a variety of reasons provcd rather unsuccessful but then an emergence of new talent following on from winning the County U21 titlc in 1972 led to us reclaiming the Senior title in a never to be forgotten derby match of 1974,we again won the titlc In 1978 and thcn the4 in a row of 1983/ 1984/ 1985 and 1986.wealso won in 1990 and our last title was in 2000.So with a strong trddition such as that which we hnve we go into today's final with plenty of optimism, the lads have truined hard and are ready fora tough ball Ie, there are many links to the final of 2000 on todays panel. playen; such as Alan O'Sullivan, Scan Barrett. Jamic Power, Ray Dunne. Bobby Ryan. Alan P. Ryan. Jamie Swectman and Mark Q'Hallomn [unfortunately injured fortoouy] Brian Gracewho was injured in 2000 but played in the 1999 final these lads havc given sterling service to thc club down the yean;, to complemcnt that type of experience we then have the boys that contested 3 County Minor finals in a row winning gloriously in 2004,those lads have taken time to adjust to the rigoun; of $enior hurling but are now maturing as wc knew they would, when they added the immgural Seamus Q'Riain trophy to the cabinet in 2008 it was a stepping stone and the lads deservc every accolade for the way in which they won it. A lot ofpcople can take credit for gelling the team where it is toony, not least the Juvenile section of the club who brought all of these Iuds up through the ranks, the Juvenile scction of Carrick Swan is the envy of many and in 'Pairc na Hcalai', children both boys and girls are shown the skills of the gume in iI

controlled und safe environment where parents and family mcmben; can rest against the wall and watch the training in progress or during inclement weather the children can be brought to our stale of the art indoor facility. last year we won the South U 14 A hurling title and whilst our Juvenile section is strong so tOO is our football section. last year we won the County and South chnmpionships in Intennediate football and we also won thc South championship in Junior football, a wonderful achievement for the club .The future of the club is bright we have alreudy won the South title in minor B hurling this year wilh a vcry young team and there is some exceplionaltalent coming through. Ilowever today is all about tl)'ing to add title number 22 to our role of honour in Senior hurling, we lIre the divisions leading light in Senior hurling but the gap is closing, we now have the opportunity 10 once again asscrt ourselves as champions. the best of luck 10 all our players and menton; Maurice Grace.
