BoherlahaD-Dualia GU In the carly ~'CJ.rs of the .lssoci;nion, the p.lrlsh W,lS represented by club~ such

as Tllbbcrador,l, Suir Vicw and BalJyt.tfSna, all of "hom won county honours with tamed Tubbcrador.l winning th~ All Ireland Senior titles in four years, 1895,1896 and 1898.

In 1912 , the Bohcrlah.1Il club was founded and from then ulltil 1928 the dub won 9 cOlin!)' finals and two All Irdand, 1916 and 1925, umkr [he captaincy of the great Johnny Leahy, whose name is honoured on the Mid Tipper.try Senior hurling championship trophy. Incidcmly, Johnny Leahy became the first Tippcntry mall to receive the Liam McCarthy Cup in [925 . The clubs first Mid success was in 1913, .md the dub dominated the division for the next few years. The club afliliatcd to the Somh division in the twenties .1Ild early thirties, winning six South Ch.ullpionship-" in :l row from 1924.

After this great spell, lean times followed, a County Senior "ictoq' in 1941, captai ned by PhiJly O'Dwycr, and a l\lid Senior will in 1953, being the highlights. In the early sixties, the prest"nt name of Bohcrlah:m-Dualla wa:; adopted. A County Minor hurling title in 1970, with stalwarts like Seamus Power and Jim Kcanc, and an Int ermediatc \'icrory in 1981 \\bieh restored our scniorstaUls, brought u\ up ro the nineties. In 1993, the County Minor hurling title was won tor a sccond timt', and the nuclcus ofthistearn and 1994 County U-2 1 hurling finalisb, formed the backbone of the 1995 Mid Senior championship winning ream ;'illd Coumy finalists.

1996 will li\'e long in the memories of parishioner:; as the renewal of an old ri\'alry with the grcat Toomc\'ara, saw us comc out on top, I 16 to 2 12 as Boherlahan-Dualla once more .tdded its name [0 lhe county role o f honour. This tcam, managed by Martin O'Dwyer, Kieran M3her and Willie Joe Dwyer and Donagh O'Donnell (tr:J.incr) lined out; Phillip Ryan, William Hickey, TJ O'Dwyer, Tommy O'l)wrer. Sc.lIllUS Hickey, Conor Gleeson, I)avid Ryan, Michael Ferneomoc, 1) McGrath, Ger flanabr:tll, Michael Murphy, Brian O'Dwyer, Liam Maher and Aidan Flanagan, added new pride to the famous old colours.

For many ~'cars the local field was situared in Gaile and hosted some grcat games included fam()u~ Mid Sen io r hurling finals featuring Thurlcs Sarsfield, MoycarkC)' and Thurlc.\ Kiekhallls. The pre..~ent grounds were acquired in the carly 1970's and with grear volunrary help :lnd suppOrt, the Sports complex, stand and fucilities were developed to make Boherlahan Sporrsfield thc fine facility it is today.

Loughnane-Castleinev GAA Club by Pat Healy

Tod:!.)' the club arc comcsting their 18th mid final and bidding to bring their number of victories to double figures of 10, since gaining status in 1981.

Following great success at juvenile level in the carly scvcmics which in turn produced the gn.:at team of the eighties and nineties, a new group of players have emerged in lhe parishes of Loughnanc and Castlcinay. This year our U21 player:> have won football County A Final with the hurlers pipped by one point in Hurling County Final tollowing a replay.

Outstanding work is continuing with our juvenile tcams in the parish, with almost evcry [cam playing in (A) competition with huge success keeping the future succeSs of the club \'cry much ali\'c.

Excellent talent in this group of players has been hampered by a hugc amount of serious injuries this year leading to defeat in county leaguc sections. However under the guidance of former greats Fr Peter Brennan, Pat Treacy and Kevin Kelly along with Jimmy Sweeney ilS

trainer in reo.:nt weeks rhey Illay be coming right to take rhe tirie.
