Mutlinahone and Carrick Davins. This years final takes on a special

significance as the two teams have not met in a final for 16 years (1995) with Mullinahone,

successful on that occasion and Carnck Davins hoping to add to their 11 Titles, the last in

those teams have had many a great tussle at underage level over the last number of years

2011 CARRICK DAVINS GAA CLUB

Today Is a proud day for all Carrick Davin players, members and supporters, as we once again reach the South Tipperary Senior Hurling Final . It ;s an accumulation of the dedication, hard

work and effort displayed by this group of players and mentors . These players have been

loyal to the dub overthe years since starting out at juvenile level and today we thank all our

Juvenile coaches and mentors who have shaped and developed their skills and teamwork.

Huge credit must go to the current selectors of the panel - Nica Butler, Jimmy Ryan, Paddy

Ryan John Robinson and to trainer Don lyons all have shown true commitment this is their

second year in charge and they are clearly doing an excellent job with the players . This Is

Carrick Davins second season back playing senior hurling after a few years absence, making

the step-up after winning the County Intermediate Hurling Final in 2009. Our last victory in a

Senior Hurling South Final was back in 1979, where Jimmy Ryan captained Carrick Davins. lt

is fitting today that Jimmy Ryan is still strongly involved with the Davins, as he is currently a

selector with the team. Between 1965 and 1980, Carrick Oavins competed in 14 South

Finals, winning 11. Our captain today is Keith Condon. A skilled and dedicated hurler, he is a

real leader on the field . Carrick Oavins was founded almost 90 y::!ars ago in 1922. It was

named In honour of Carrick on Suir man Maurice Davin who was the Gaelic Athletic

Association's first President. Over that time span our club has achieved great successes on

the field of play, most recently in 2011 with the Under 16 Football Team winning the County

Football Championship and our Junior Hurlers winning the South Title. It is a number of

years since we participated in the Junior Championship and we are lucky to have such a

committed panel of players. Some of these have returned to game after a few years absence

and it is good to see them back playing in the red and white. These successes ensure that

Carrick Oavins will be prominent in the field of play for many years to come. We have

recently developed a state of the art flood-lit Astro-Turf pitch at our club and this has

benefited enormously the training of all our teams, especially during the dark evenings . This

Astro-Turf is available to hire also. It has been another good year for our juveniles winning an

u/16 County Football Title The u/14's competed in this year's championship and the u/12's

competed in a number of Blitz throughout the year the Astro-Turf has been eKtremely

beneficial to us and the use of the Green School for our u/6, u/8, u/lO and u/12's will keep

the young ones hurling for the winter. In these hard times it is a credit to our dub and

committee that we can offer these types of facilities free of charge to our members. We

thank all involved for their hard work and promotion of the game with the juveniles.

Another undertaking was the establishment of the Ladies Football section has generated

great interest in football amongst girls in Carrick and they are displaying huge potential.

Some have begun training with the Tipperary U 12's County Panel, another great

ach ievement for our dub. We thank all the ladies Committee for their hard work and

dedication in getting this off the ground.

2011 C.J. KICHAMS GAA CLUB MULLINAHONE

Today we play Carrick Davins, a club with a rich history in our divisional senior hurling

final which gives me an opportunity to look at our own history. Founded in 1885 the

early years of the club focused mainly on football. In the early years we produced many

great players who played an active role not only with their club but also with Tipperary.

In 1920 on BloodySundaywe provided six players to the Tipperaryfootball panel. As the

years progressed we developed an interest in hurling in the club and for many years we

entered various junior and juvenile championships the big break came in the eighties

with the arrival of a young John Leahy. John laid the charge at senior county level and

was to start an era in the club which would culminate in the County Senior Hurling Title

in 2002. The previous year under the charge of Nicky English he was joined by Brian

O'Meara, Paul Curran and the Kelly Brothers Paul and Eoin. All the while we were

moving forward as a club improving our facilities and building our own sports complex.

These developments were a tribute to the many members who gave so much of their

time as volunteers. When we were formed little did we know that a Mullinahone player

would Captain and bring home the Liam McCarthy to his county and his native

Mullinahone. That Tuesday night will live long in the memories of many Gaels. Little did

our founders think 125 years ago that such an event would take place 2011 we entered

U18 hurling and football, U21 hurling and football, Intermediate football and Senior

hurling team making sure that our tradition of football and hurling still carries to this

day. We thank the many players and team mentors who promoted and took part in our

championships this year. We thank our supporters who support us vocally and

financially. We thank our sponsors Mullinahone Co-Op for their support and belief in

our club. Of course in every club there has to be ajuvenile club to ensure we have players into the

future. We are very lucky in this respect to have such a dedicated juvenile committee

who work tirelessly to promote our games. The annual U12 Inter County hurling

tournament is now admired nationally with many clubs seeking to play in it. This year

along with many teams from the republic we had Naomh Eoin Belfast, O'Donovan

Rossa, Kevin Lynch's Dungiven, Eoghan Ruadh Tyrone and Castleblaney Monaghan. Our

host families in the parish housed over eighty children and in allover six hundred U12's

and UIO's enjoyed a great weekend in Mullinahone. We Sincerely thank our juvenile

club fortheir dedication.

I wonder did our founders think that their idea of founding a GAA club would have such

an effect on the life style of our community. Did they foresee that 2010 would yield the

Tipperary senior hurling captain along with the Liam McCarthy cup, two all-stars ,three

senior hurling panellists, an AU-ireland winning U21 player, two county minors and a

member of the Tipperary senior football team. We've come a long way 'Forthe credit of
