commercial properties where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination."

• Examples: – old industrial sites– commercial buildings– former service stations– warehouses– abandoned railroads – air strips.

storm water.• Allowed to infiltrate into the soil with the help

of deep-rooted plants that like water. • The garden is planted in a shallow basin.• Filters pollutants from the runoff

• Environmental Cleanup of Columbia Gas Site• Established “foot print” for Rain Garden• Installation of stone wall• Replacement of top soil• Re-contouring and mulching of Rain Garden• Soil remediation• $95,000

GLRI STORMWATER DEMONSTRATION GRANT

• Lucas County Stormwater Demonstrations sub-grant from Ohio EPA.

• Completion of 2,900 square foot Rain Garden:– Redirect stormwater from Kraus Street– Soil bedding, flowers and shrubs – Public Education and Outreach Opportunities

• City Council Meetings• Youth Commission Meetings• Industry Representatives• Close Proximity to I-75

• $8,000

RAIN GARDEN DEMONSTRATION PROJECT COMPLETION

• Installation of perforated pipe– Distribution of stormwater– Minimize ponding

• Soil amendment and planting– Mixture of sand and compost incorporated with

existing topsoil– Flowers, shrubs, grasses and two trees planted

• Project Signage – 18-inch by 24-inch illustrative sign
