FAU

CPA Code of Ethics

We, as undergraduate members of women's fraternities, stand for good scholarship, for guarding of good health, for maintenance of fine standards, and for serving, to the best of our ability, our college community. Cooperation for furthering fraternity life, in harmony with its best possibilities, is the ideal that shall guide our fraternity activities. We, as fraternity women, stand for service through the development of character inspired by the close contact and deep friendship of individual fraternity and Panhellenic life. The opportunity for wide and wise human service, through mutual respect and helpfulness, is the tenet by which we strive to live.

In our effort to achieve excellence, our goal is to uphold the following ideals:

Agree to promote an honestrepresentation of Fraternity & Sorority Life

Abide by all guiding documents including but not limited to the Constitution & Bylaws, Unanimous Agreements, PNM Bill of Rights, Panhellenic Creed, FAU’s goals and missions, MACE requirements and the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life policies

Understand that attendance at official Panhellen-ic events is expected of all member organizations in order to promote unity among the community

Encourage positive actions and values based decisions

Respect one another and work together not only within Panhellenic chapters but the Greek community as a whole

Commit to being Panhellenic women who avoid taking unfair advantages in order to benefit our own chapter

Agree to uphold and demonstrate Panhellenic Spirit in thought, word and action through our chapters as well as individual members

Understand the importance of creating and establishing friendships within our community

Strive to be above the all women’s GPA average

Uphold and educate members on the anti-hazing laws in the state of Florida

Provide a safe environment through programming and by following Risk Management guidelines

Ensure that all members be selected for membership without regard for race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, political beliefs, or economic or geographical background

Strive to address infractions in a timely and professional manner utilizing recruitment bylaws

Foster that all recruitment programs be planned to provide opportunities for the greatest possible number of women to become fraternity members

Maintain exceptional training for our Recruitment Counselors and hold them responsible to the expectations of the Recruitment Counselor Contract

Believe that we should maximize opportunities for women to learn about our community, before making a decision of life long membership

LEADERSHIP

SCHOLARSHIPPHILANTHROPY &THE COMMUNITY

The spirit of our sorority community makes our campus seem smaller and more like home. Regardless of the chapter you join, the friendships that are formed are life long.

Sorority chapters at FAU provide a diverse selection of events that will enrich your social life and take you beyond the daily routine of class, working, studying, formals, date events, and chapter retreats. It supports the goal of bringing members together to develop the bonds of friendship.

One of the most gratifying aspects of fraternity & sorority life at FAU is giving back to the community through philanthropy, social awareness and community services within the sorority community. Chapters plan and sponsor various philanthropy events for national and local community services. Helping people in need and doing things for the community is an integral part of life as a sorority member.

One of the most important concerns of our community is to offer our chapter members a variety of positions to sharpen their leadership skills. Our chapters provide a solid foundation in leadership training and networking that prepares members for the demands and responsibilities needed for our member’s future careers.

The FAU Panhellenic community is proud of their level of scholarship achievement. Starting with your new member period all the way to graduation, our Panhellenic community will help you encourage, develop, and maintain the greatest academic progress. Each chapter has a minimum standard to join and remain active.

SISTERHOOD

Signing & Accepting a Bid Mandatory Acceptance PolicyIf you are part of the recruitment process on preference night and you maximize your options (meaning you agree to accept a bid from any organization whose preference round you attended) you are guaranteed to receive a bid.

Recruitment 101

After you attend your preference round(s), you will be offered a Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA) to sign. The MRABA is a one year binding agreement signed by a potential new member. By signing the MRABA, you are agreeing to accept a bid from any sorority you list on the MRABA. Once this is signed, you cannot participate in sorority recruitment with an organization who is not the organization who offers you a bid for one year.

HOW DOES THE PROCESS WORK? WHAT IS A RECRUITMENT EVENT?

THE MUTUAL SELECTION PROCESS WHAT IS A RECRUITMENT COUNSELOR?

A recruitment event will be a night & day occurrence during the week of recruitment. Each night your recruitment counselor will give you your schedule of events for that night. You will then attend the events. At each event you will have the opportunity to meet some women in each organization. Every round of recruitment will be focused on educating you about something different about the sorority.

The mutual selection process is the process that is used to place you in a sorority. When you go through recruitment, it is inevitable that you will feel a stronger connection with some organizations than you will with others. The organizations will also feel some stronger connections with potential new members than they will with others. This is not meant to be mean or cliquey, it is simply meant to ensure that you are in a sorority that you click with and that clicks with you as well. On some nights of recruitment, you will be ranking the sororities based upon which you would prefer to join. The sororities will also be ranking potential new members based on who they would most like to have join their organization. On Bid Day, you will be matched with a sorority where there is a mutual connection. Ultimately, this sorority is the best fit for you.

Your recruitment counselor is there to serve as your guide throughout the recruitment process. She is an initiated sister in a sorority who will hide her affiliation until Bid Day in order to give you the most unbiased advice possible. She is there to guide you to the sorority that is the best fit for you. Once your recruitment counselor contacts you, you will be in contact with each other regularly. She will send you reminders about recruitment and she will promote friendship among the other women in your group. There will be about twenty potential new members in your recruitment counselor group. Depending on when you register for recruitment, you may have opportunities to get to know your recruitment counselor and the other women in your group before recruitment begins.

Our recruitment is about a week long, beginning Wednesday, August 28th and concluding Monday, September 2nd. You will begin the process by attending an orientation to become acclimated to the process and gain more general knowledge about the process. You will then attend three nights of events with the sororities where you will learn more about their organizations. The next night you will attend a preference round event in which you will participate in an open ritual with the organizaiton(s). On the final day, Bid Day, you will be extended a bid to join a sorority and will spend the day with your new sorority family.

Anti-Hazing PolicyHazing, in any form, is absolutely not allowed at Florida Atlantic University. Hazing is defined as any action or situation, with or without consent, which recklessly, intentionally or unintentionally, endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, or creates risk of injury, or causes discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule, or which willfully destroys or removes public or private property for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with or as a condition for continued membership in a chapter or colony of an NPC member fraternity. Hazing is a felony in the state of Florida. Wanting to be hazed is not a defense; this would actually make you guilty of hazing as well. Hazing is against the FAU Student Code of Conduct and is taken extremely seriously. If you ever feel that you are being hazed, or see hazing occur, contact the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life immediately.

A woman is eligible to participate in recruitment for membership if:...she is a regularly matriculated student on campus....she is not,or has never been, an initiated member of an NPC group...she registers for membership recruitment and pays a $50.00 registration fee....she attends orientation and all events which she has accepted invitations. In the event of an illness or emergency, she should notify the recruitment staff and/or her recruitment counselor if she cannot attend...she provides her own transportation....she contacts her recruitment counselor if she desires to withdrawal from the process....she does not give a promise, either verbal or written to join a certain fraternity before bids are issued through Panhellenic....she will complete the MRABA after her last event she attends. It is a binding contract and once this has been signed, no changes may be made.

As a Potential New Member, you have the right to:...be treated as an individual...be fully informed about the recruitment process...ask questions and receive true and objective answers from recruitment counselors and members...be treated with respect...be treated as a capable and mature person without being patronized...ask how and why and receive straight answers...have and express opinions to recruitment counselors and recruitment staff...have inviolable confidentiality when sharing information with recruitment counselors and recruitment staff...make informed decisions without pressure from others...be fully informed about the binding agreement implicit in the signing of the MRABA...make ones own choices and decisions and to accept full responsibility for the results of that decision....have a positive, safe, and enriching recruitment experience.

Our Expectations

Your Bill of Rights Before recruitment begins, you may be contacted by sorority women. It is encouraged that you talk to them and get to know them. However, there are some things that should not occur when you are in contact with sorority women. They cannot promise you a bid. For example, if you get to know a woman in a sorority and she says something like, “Well, I like you so my sisters are going to. You’ll definitely join our sorority!” or “When you join my sorority I want you to be my little!”. These things are not allowed. These ultimately put you, the potential new member, at a disadvantage because you don’t truly get to view all the organizations with an open mind. Please contact Alicia Keating at the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life (561) 297-1245 if these things happen to you. For general recruitment questions , contact your recruitment counselor. If you need to reach someone for general questions, emergencies, contact Fransheska Pacheko, Cora Johnson, or Natasha Chidiac.
