Recruitment Counselors Each woman going through the recruitment process will be placed into a Recruitment Counselor (RC) group. The group will be composed of PNMs and led by the RCs. !What is an RC? An RC (Recruitment Counselor) is a sorority woman who has been selected based on her unbiased commitment to the Panhellenic Council. RCs are women from each chapter who have disassociated from their chapter leading up to and during recruitment. !What do they do? Their role is to provide supportive and unbiased assistance and guidance to you, the PNM, throughout the recruitment process. Their job is to help you go through the recruitment process with ease. They will answer questions, give guidance, and advise you on how to make the most of recruitment. RCs are completely disaffiliated from their chapters, meaning they do not have contact with their sorority sisters and cannot promote their own chapters. !Why do they have to disaffiliate? The disaffiliation process is to ensure that the RCs provide an unbiased source of information to all PNMs throughout recruitment. By disaffiliating, each RC is showing their commitment to the Panhellenic Community by helping each PNM find a sorority that is the best fit for her. !Feel free to ask your RC questions like....

✤What should I look for in a chapter? ✤How do I choose the right house for me? ✤Are the negative comments I hear about a certain chapter true? ✤What topics should I talk about during the recruitment rounds? ✤Should I join the same chapter as my friends? ✤I wasn’t called back to the house I wanted, now what? ✤I’m nervous! How do I remain calm?

It's All Greek To Me! !Words to Know:!!Bid – An invitation to join a fraternity or sorority. !Chapter – Refers to an individual fraternity or sorority. !Continuous Open Recruitment - If a sorority does not reach the membership ceiling (aka total) during formal recruitment, they may hold an informal recruitment, and offer bids to Potential New Members. This process is also known as COR. !Intentional Single Preference - When a Potential New Member only puts down one choice on her preference card. This sometimes lessens the chances of her getting a bid, and is not recommended. !Legacy - Generally defined as the daughter, granddaughter, or sister of an initiated sorority member. A Potential New Member may be a legacy to more than one sorority. Each organization may have variations to this definition. !Maximize Options - To make recruitment the most enjoyable and successful for you, all Potential New Members are asked to Maximize their options. This means making full selections each night and attending all the rounds to which you have been invited. Choosing to not attend a round you’ve been invited to will result in your removal from the recruitment process. !!Mutual Selection - The process used to match Potential New Members and chapters. This process gives both chapter women and PNMs a voice in the selection process. It ensures the best fit for PNMs and the chapters. !New Member - After receiving and accepting a Bid, the person becomes a new member. New Members were formerly called a pledge and may sometimes be called an Associate Member. !!!!!!

Panhellenic Council – A governing body of all National Panhellenic Conference member sororities on a campus. !Philanthropy – A charitable organization that a fraternity or sorority supports which can be national, local or both. !Potential New Member - PNM, a woman who is a candidate to become a member of a sorority chapter. !Preference – The final rounds held by sororities during Sorority Formal Recruitment. They are fancier than the previous rounds and usually include a ritual in which potential new members participate. This round is also known as Pref. !Quota - This is the specified number of new members that a sorority can accept during Sorority Formal Recruitment. !Silence/ Strict Silence – This practice is the point from which recruitment starts until it ends. During this time, chapter women and PNMs are not allowed to speak outside of the scheduled recruitment rounds. !Snap Bid - An option available to chapters that did not fill quota. Chapters may offer bids to PNMs whose preferences were not matched. This process takes place before bids are distributed. Snap bidding is not intended to fill spaces in the chapter total and is limited to any woman who participated in the designated recruitment. !Total - The allowable chapter size, as determined by the College Panhellenic, which includes both new and initiated members.

FAQ- Frequently Asked Questions! How much are dues? Dues vary for each chapter. The first semester is always the most expensive. Most dues can be paid using a payment plan throughout the semester. Chapter dues often decrease after the first semester and vary depending on what is included. During the recruitment process, be sure to ask chapter members about their specific costs. You may also use the 2014 Financial Disclosure Statement released during the month of June to obtain more sorority financial information. ! Do I have to live in my sorority’s house? This requirement varies chapter to chapter. Some sororities do not require members to live in their house while others house up to 40 members. As a new member though, you would not be required to live in the house. ! What are the Grade Point Average (GPA) requirements? GPA requirements vary depending on each chapter. Each chapter uses a GPA requirement that has been designated by their national office. Be sure to ask chapter members about their specific requirements throughout recruitment. All of our chapters require at least a 2.5 GPA for membership. If you go through the Formal Sorority Recruitment process with a lower GPA, your chances of receiving a bid are lower. ! Is hazing something to be worried about? We have a zero tolerance policy for hazing. Hazing is against Texas law. No member is allowed to participate in any form of hazing as a new or active member of their chapter. For more information, visit stophazing.org ! Do I need to be a legacy? No, it is not a requirement to be a legacy to join a sorority at Texas State. Each sorority has different policies pertaining to legacies. ! What should I bring to recruitment? The recruitment process is long and filled with moments of down time. It is highly encouraged that you bring a blanket or sweats in case of chilly rooms. You may also want to consider bringing hair products, extra makeup and other essentials to freshen up throughout the day.A concession stand will be available to purchase snacks and drinks from during the day.

Making the Most Out of Recruitment

Helpful Hints to Ensure You Maximize Your Options!!Recruitment Rounds!•Recruitment is about establishing connections with the women you hope to forever call your sisters.!!•The most successful recruitment comes from sharing yourself with the women you meet. !!•Find common interests with chapter members while you are making connections and learning about others. The more you find in common, the more comfortable you will feel.!!•Do not be someone you are not. This will more than likely result in an eventual disconnect between you and your future chapter members, leading to discontent with your sorority experience.!!•Be 100% YOU! Being yourself ensures that the real you fits in and relates to that chapter. !!•RELAX! Feel comfortable enough to let your true colors shine through!!!•The current chapter members are just as nervous as you are; do not be afraid to mess up. !!PNM Etiquette!•Make eye contact with whomever you are speaking with. !!•Be well groomed! This does not mean you have to be flashy, but personal hygiene, appropriate dress and care for your appearance is important.!!•Speak and listen actively. Recruitment rounds are a conversation, not an interview! !!•Avoid sensitive or uncomfortable topics. !!Conversation Topics/Starters!! Philanthropy!! Media (TV, Music, etc.)!! Hometown! !
