The Solna D280/D300 is a press configuration renowned for its high print quality on

uncoated paper. Unique to the Solna concept is the MultiRange bearerless system which

permits pressure adjustment during the run.

The Solna Distributor Concept means flexibility. You can produce a variety of products on

uncoated stock in different stock weights. This is a major advantage of the Solna D280/D300

since it allows you to take on a broad range of jobs, which will make your investment in the press

Solna quality philosophy

MultiRange – bearerless design for best print quality

High print quality is a major reason for the success of the Solna D280/D300. Most presses

have bearers to eliminate vibrations caused by cylinder gap meetings and to provide a constant

pressure between the blanket cylinders. Bearers mean that a change of paper stock requires a

change of all underpackings to keep a high print quality.

A common feature of all Solna web offset presses is the bearerless design with MultiRange. This

feature was developed by Solna in the 1950’s and was for many years a unique Solna feature.

Thanks to its many benefits, the bearerless design is now being introduced by other manufac-

tures – but Solna claim a leading position, with the back-up from more than almost 60 years of

experience.

The Solna bearerless design allows you to quickly switch between jobs with different web thick-

ness. By turning the MultiRange dial you promptly adjust the impression to achieve perfect dot

transfer on different paper qualities. This feature lets you take on jobs that other printers, with

ordinary newspaper presses, cannot produce. In addition, the absence of bearers means short,

strong cylinder journals, which reduce vibration and increase print quality. The Solna MultiRange

system saves time and brings in new business.

The bearerless design and the MultiRange dial permit quick changeoversbetween jobs, keeping perfect dot transfer on all paper grades.

When using manual ink fountains, the Solna lever ink fountain cuts down the time required for ink

zone adjustment, which leads to a quicker and more efficient make-ready process.

The large reductions in waste are results of the improved setting of lever ink fountains. The visual

position of the ink levers distinctly shows the amount of ink in each zone of the fountain. 90% of

the ink setting can be done before the press has started printing. After start-up, optimal ink setting

is achieved by a few minor adjustments, unlike the costly trial and error approach necessary with

conventional ink fountains.

Design policy for cylinder bearings

Bearings for cylinders in Solna products are chosen with the highest demands on life length, pre-

cision and minimum play. Only the best manufactures like SKF in Sweden are chosen to be the

supplier of bearings for Solna products. Bearings are built in a sturdy design to give the highest

dot quality possible. In assembly, high precision

instruments is used to ensure highest possible

accuracy when assembly the bearings. Solna’s

collaboration with world leading manufacturer of

bearings has given the products highest possible

standard of bearings.

The Solna lever Ink Fountain is the best lever ink box on the market. By presetting the ink levels,

make-ready time is significantly shortened. Time savings are noticeable when preparing the press

for half-webs. With at lever device, half of the fountains can be shut off in only a few seconds, a

fraction of the time needed to adjust conventional ink fountains.

Quick make ready is the hallmark of the Solna D280/D300 and easy plating up is one of the

major reasons why you can take on a wide range of jobs with the fastest changeovers.

This ergonomic design of the Solna Distributor Concept contributes significantly to making your

press profitable. Operations like changing plates and blankets are easy thanks to excellent

accessibility. One example is fast plate locking – a simple movement using only one tool locks

the entire plate.

Solna Plate Lock Up System

Solna Plate Lock Up System can have different types of lock up sys-

tems. You can choose between slit system and gripper bar system. With

a slit system the plate cylinder can be equipped also with a preregister

pin system that is easily changeable for different register system used.

Even if you like to change to a new preregister system, the system in

the plate cylinder can easily be adjusted to fit the new system.

Automatic splicer – integrated or free standing

A wide range of optional equipment can be added to your press line

to further increase the flexibility, versatility and competitiveness of

your Solna Distributor. The optional built-in splicer or free standing

splicer can change reels at full production speed.

With the Solna automatic splicer you can change and splice reels at full production speed.

Manual or automatic ink lever settingsInk lever setting can be either manual, remote controlled or fully automat-

ic. Motorized circumferential and lateral plate registers are essential for

larger configurations to ensure high net output. Remote control from the

operating console ensures that it can be operated by a single operator.

Printing process controlThe Solna D280/D300 can also be equipped with Solna’s computerized Printing Process

Control system (PPC). This optional PPC has been developed to offer basic, dependable

and accurate remote control of ink zones, dampening and register. The PC-based platform

can easily be expanded for future needs with Solna PPC options.

The control console is designed with the focus on ergonomics and efficiency. Symbols are

easily understood and the functions and switches are within easy reach. The console is

adjustable for both angle and height.

The combination of plate reader and a PC-based control system, together with remote

controlled ink fountains, dampening, register and other press functions, increase your

automation and boost productivity.

A colour profile with preset ink levers be-fore you have printed one single copy, cuts

waste and reduces make ready times.

Established in 1946 as a sheetfed manufacturer,

Solna built its first web offset press as early as 1952.

To date, a remarkably high proportion of the

many thousands of Solna web offset printing

units sold world-wide are still in production.

All Solna-made equipment, such as control sys-

tems, folders and printing units, are designed by

Solna and manufactured by Solna or subcon-

tracted to selected suppliers. All strategic parts,

such as side frames and printing cylinders, are

manufactured at the highly advanced plants in

Motala and Ockelbo in Sweden.

Solna ensures total quality commitment

The manufacture of other parts is subcontracted, with quality production processes based on

today’s stringent standards. Solna only works with the best available suppliers such as SKF

(bearings), Bosch Rexroth (motors and drive equipment) Schneider/Telemechanique (PLC-

technology), Baldwin Jimek (spray dampening and blanket cleaning), and MEGTEC (splicers)

to mention a few. These suppliers carry a very good reputation and have an outstanding service

and spare parts availability throughout the world. This ensures our customers the highest possible

availability and durability of their pressline.

All Solna’s presses are customerordered, which permits us to meet all specific individual de-

mands as well as to keep costs low through more efficient manufacturing.

F300SThe F300S combination folder is a jaw folder handling up to eight webs of uncoated stock. It handles paper stocks ranging from 28 to 140 gsm. Therefore the F300S folder thus can handle a wide range of different products, from newspapers and magazines to periodicals and books. This combination folder folds up to 32 pages of broadsheet paper and 64 pages of tabloid. The F300S folder can be equipped with quarter folder as well as a double parallel folder.

F400SThe F400S folder is a heavy duty state of the art folder for high quality newspaper produc-tion and semi-commercial works. This folder can take up to eight webs over one former in broadsheet and tabloid. On this folder you can change position of tabloid lap and double parallel lap on the run, also position of the different folds can be set on the run. The F400S folder can be equipped with both quarter folder and double parallel folder.

FormersBoth the F300S and the F400S folder can be equipped with different type of formers and superstructures, such as Twin Former or Upper Former for printing up to threesections.
