    (1) Adjust the sensitivity control settings to those recorded forthe calibrated reference sensitivity. See Section S.2(2).

    (2) Resposition search unit at each respective test Hole and observemaximum signal response amplitudes, and horizontal screen positions.

    (3) See Section 7.5 for signal response requirements during calibrationcheck.

8.3 Angle Beam Calibration (Second Half of Vee Path)

Angle beam sweep calibration and Distance-Amplitude Correction shouldbe performed as follows and as shown in Figure 4:

    (1) Adjust the instrument sweep controls so that the signal response gfrom the 1/4T and 13/4T holes occur at the first (1st) andseventh (7th) horizontal screen positions as shown in Figure4. To verify sweep calibration, ensure that response fromsquare notches appear near the fourth (4th) and eighth (8th) d dhorizontal positions respectively.

    (2) Position search unit to obtain* maximum response from the3/4T hole. Adjust sensitivity control to provide a signal ampli- Atude of 30% of FSH and mark location and amplitude on CRT.

    (3) Without changing sensitivity, position search unit respectivelyon the remaining angle beam calibration holes and mark signalamplitudes and locations on CRT.

    (4) Position search unit for maximum response from the farsurface notch and "X" mark the screen and data sheet toindicate amplitudes.

    (5) If the instrument is equipped with an electronic Distance-Amplitude Corr 2ctiondevice, the primary reference responseshall be equalized at 80% of FSH over the distance rangeto be employed in the examination.

    (6) Plot a Distance-Amplitude Correction (DAC) curve by connectingthe locations (marked on the CRT) with a continuous lineextended to cover the full examination range as shown inFigure 4.

    (7) This is the primary reference sensitivity. Record all sen-sitivity control settings on the appropriate CalibrationData Sheet.

    (8) Report all data and instrument settings on the CalibrationData Sheets.

3.4 Angle Beam Calibration (First Half of Vee Path)

Angle beam sweep calibration and distance-amplitude correction should gbe performed as follows and as shown in Figure 4:

    (1) Adjust the instrument sweep controls so that the signal re-sponse from the 1/4T and 3/4T holes occur at the first (1st)and third (3rd) horizontal screen positions as shown in Figure4. To verify sweep calibration, ensure that response fromsquare notch appears near the fourth (4th) horizontal positions.

    (2) Position search unit to obtain maximum response from thehole which gives the highest amplitude signal. Adjust sensitivitycontrol to provide a signal amplitude of 80?6 of FSH and marklocation and amplitude on CRT.

    (3) Without changing sensitivity, position search unit respectivelyon the remaining angle beam calibration holes and mark signalamplitudes and locations on CRT.

    (4) Position search unit for maximum response from the far surfacenotch and "X" mark the screen and data sheet to indicateamplitude.

    (5) If the instrument is equipped with an electronic distance-amplitude correction device, the primary reference responseshall be equalized at 30o6 of FSH over the distance rangeto be employed in the examination.
