Sharing Our Year in Review It is said that ldquosharing is caringrdquo andit is undeniable that 2020 hasprovided us an opportunity tosincerely think about how we shareand care While Zoom calls and carparties enabled us to share ourthoughts and good wishes at theend of the day our collectivehumanity is what has sustained ourkinship as families and communities
The pandemic has opened our eyes to see where more sharing is neededASCI has shared resources information meals learning assistance and othersupportive services We have mastered digital platforms in order to share ourtime with staff and families continued our support groups virtually offeredonline youth activities and nurtured community partnerships to keep the sharinggoing
We have also seen the importance of sharing ourselves As we share our ownexperiences needs triumphs challenges and faith we strengthen our bondsby recognizing what we have in common
Like you I have also missed sharing some things like family milestones firstbirthdays weddings and even saying goodbye to those close to us And I thinkeach of us misses sharing in our respective communitiesrsquo togetherness from

Sharing is giving and receiving it is thought and action it is tangible andintangible Sharing can achieve so much Sharing has the power to make ourworld a better place

The Battle Against Bias A Unique Yearof Hope Resilience amp Creating Change
Through Kinship
Over the course of 2020 ASCI has reflected heavily on the criticalvalues of diversity equity and inclusion in child welfare We have seenfirsthand how the pandemic racial inequities and discriminatorypractices have continued to keep marginalized populations at adisadvantage in the United States We have also seen the effects ofsuch marginalization on these populations amid a global crisis as ithas negatively impacted these same populations in disproportionateways
Yet we have been able to highlight the actions of impactful thoughtleaders and advocates within the system working every day todismantle its racist and oppressive practices The system as we wehave known it can no longer exist in its historical context and we mustcontinue fighting to create a sustainable form of support and equity forall children and families
