THE BETHANIA BLADE September 2014 Rally Day! Calling all members of Bethania: Autumn SCS and Church Activities Kick off with our Annual Rally Day on Sunday September 7! Activities kick off with a re-located outdoor worship at 9:00. We’ll be using the lawn around the Wright Ave. Sanctuary en- trance where the lawn is more even and there is plenty of sidewalk for chairs and even a center aisle for communion! We’ll then move down to the fellowship hall for an indoor picnic (to trick those pesky bugs!) The church will provide sandwiches and beverages with members asked to sign up for side dishes and dessert. Kids, Youth, and anyone else who would be in- terested are invited to bring an item (at least 50% cotton works best) to Tie Dye after they eat! Don’t miss the fun! Feel free to bring friends. Let’s fill that lawn for worship and remind our neighbors that Bethania is here and has much to offer on Sunday mornings!

Pastor’s Page:

Autumn is here (by the way, did we have Summer this year?) and with it a flurry of activities. Our calendars fill up fast as September approaches and Bethania is

no exception. There are several exciting opportunities listed in the pages of this month’s newsletter. But one thing stays pretty constant: Worship.

Worship connects us to God and to one another as a church family. It gives us a chance to thank God and to grow in our faith. Worship reminds us of what is truly

meaningful and powerful in our lives and, in the “ordinary” week to week singing, listening, praying, and declaring it strengthens us in ways that are often invisible

to the eye.

This month isn’t the first time I will take the opportunity to remind us that God

wants us to participate in worship and in the life of our congregation for US… not for him. But this month I have a powerful example of why that is.

A colleague at Froedtert showed me an article of appre-

ciation about a Nun who had recently died. The piece noted that, before she took on the vocation of a nun, this

Sister had been a wife and mother. Tragically, a house

fire killed all four of her young sons. She was often asked how she had survived the tragic death of her family. One

of her friends describes her response: “the hard times are why she lived her faith day to day so

she had a foundation to get through the bad times.“

I pray that none of us will face such tragic and difficult circumstances, but I also know that some of us will, anyway. What I most want for each of you is a faith

that can sustain you through pain and difficulty, even when it doesn’t have all the answers.

I can’t promise the sermon will always be memorable, but I promise that our faithful and gracious God is here amongst us on Sunday morning seeking to

strengthen and bless each one of you.

Blessings,

Pastor Heather

What I most want for each of

you is a faith that can sus-

tain you through pain and

difficulty, even when it does-

n’t have all the answers.

Best Lock-In …Ever!

The annual Fall Lock In will be held Friday, October 31… that’s right: Halloween (youth who are participating in School Events that

evening are invited to join us afterward). A variety of scary and not-so-scary activities will be in store, but FIRST, Youth will be in-

vited to help with Bethania’s Trick-or-Treat Event. We will set up a campfire, hot cider and trick-or-treat stations around the Church.

Candy for the neighborhood kids and SMOREs for us! Costumes strongly encouraged (but bring a change of clothes for the rest of

the night!)

The usual Lock-In fun will follow including a brand-new activity or two, pizza, & junk food.

Youth Night Corn Maze Trip

We will continue to have Youth Night on the First Wednesday of the month starting

again in October! Our first event will be a field trip to Borzynski’s CORN MAZE! We will leave from Church

at 5:30 on Wednesday, October 1. Adults are welcome and at least one Adult with a

Van is needed to help. Admission for anyone over age 12 is $8:50. Youth may also

meet the group at Borzynskis at 5:45.

On Mondays during the School Year Bethania will host a students and teachers of a spe-

ing, lunch in the Fellowship Hall, and homework and other activities after lunch. This will

be a small class supervised by three teachers. Their services to the congregation are

these worthy students and teachers.

Our Scouts Help With “Kampfire”

Curtis Webster and Scoutleader Keith Webster from Bethania’s own Boy Scout Troop

#242 helped to make the final Kid Zone event of the Summer a success! Kids and

Scouts gathered at the church for a campfire where they feasted on a supper of

campfire roasted hot dogs with a dessert of the classic campfire treat: Smores! The

Scouts not only helped with the fire, they taught the kids songs and lead them in fun

activities!

Kid Zone Sleepover a Success:

The Church lights were on late into the night of August 8 as Kid Zone kids gathered for

the annual “Sleepover” event. Fun, games, treats, and even a puppet theatre play put

on by the kids were all a part of the fun. The kids finally laid out their sleeping bags to

watch “The Lego Movie” waaay past their normal bedtimes! Pastor Heather says that,

surprisingly, the kids were much easier to wake up the next morning than the Youth are

during Lock Ins! Special thanks to Jerod Alderson who volunteered to help and tried his

best to wear the kids out by running them around!
