Celebrating Holidays the ECE WayIt seems that we’ve just returned to school, and the Jewish holidaysare upon us. Rosh Hashanah is the perfect holiday for the beginningof the school year. Celebrating the Jewish New Year gives us an ex-cellent framework in which to study beginnings and to look at howmuch we’ve grown.Although we do lots of grown-up serious things on Rosh Hashanah, don’t neglect to share the fun, childlike aspects of the holiday withyour child. Dip apple slices in honey, take a nature walk together andobserve how the world is changing, look at baby pictures and let yourchild tell you how much they have changed. Now is a good time to start a holiday photo album. Make a page foreach holiday. Take a picture of your child and/or family at each holi-day, and add it to the page so you can see how much you’ve all grownfrom year to year. Teach your child about sharing good wishes for theNew Year by letting them help make the cards. You can make some-thing together on the computer, or photocopy your child’s drawing touse as your card. And, of course, let your child drop all the cards inthe mailbox!L’shanah tovah tikatayvu—May you be inscribed for a good year in thebook of life.
