SecondSlide Digital Slide Conferencing Quick Start This quick start guide gets you up and running using digital slide conferencing on SecondSlide. You will learn how to start a digital slide conference and how to join an existing one. SecondSlide is an innovative sharing network that gives you an easy way to share digital slides and all the data that go with them (for example, case details and specimen images) with others. One of the features available on SecondSlide is digital slide conferencing. ImageScope Digital Slide Conferencing (DSC) not only allows multiple people to see the same digital slide at the same time, but also provides: Synchronized viewing so all participants see the same region of the digital slide at the same time Realtime annotation sharing Leader/follower roles and the ability to change those roles For details on digital slide conferencing not covered in this quick start guide, see the ImageScope User’s Guide. Prerequisites: All conference participants must have ImageScope installed on their Windows workstations. (Download the latest, free ImageScope software from www.aperio.com .) What Is Digital Slide Conferencing? Digital slide conferencing is a feature of the ImageScope digital slide viewer. Here’s how it works: 1. The person who wishes to initiate the conference logs onto SecondSlide and opens one or more digital slides in ImageScope (the slides that person wants to show in the conference). 2. The leader creates the online conference and contacts potential participants to let them know the conference is available to join. 3. Participants open ImageScope on their workstations and open the Digital Slide Conferencing window in ImageScope to see what conferences are available, and then selects the conference started by the leader. 4. Participants see whatever the conference leader sees in his or her ImageScope window—as the conference leader moves through the slide, draws annotations, changes magnification, and so on, the participants view the leader’s actions. Creating a Digital Slide Conference on SecondSlide Creating a digital slide conference takes just a few minutes—follow the simple steps below. 1 – Log into SecondSlide The first step in creating a digital slide conference is to log into SecondSlide. 1. Type the address https://secondslide.com in your Internet browser address box to go to the SecondSlide server. 2. Log into SecondSlide by typing your user name (the email address you used to sign up for SecondSlide) and your password and click GO. SecondSlide Digital Slide Conferencing Quick Start

This quick start guide gets you up and running using digital slide conferencing on SecondSlide.

ImageScope Digital Slide Conferencing (DSC) not only allows multiple people to see the same digital slide at the same time, but also provides:

Synchronized viewing so all participants see the same region of the digital slide at the same time  Real‐time annotation sharing  Leader/follower roles and the ability to change those roles

For details on digital slide conferencing not covered in this quick start guide, see the ImageScope User’s Guide.

Prerequisites: All conference participants must have ImageScope installed on their Windows workstations. (Download the latest, free ImageScope software from www.aperio.com.)

What Is Digital Slide Conferencing? Digital slide conferencing is a feature of the ImageScope digital slide viewer. Here’s how it works:

2. Log into SecondSlide by typing your user name (the email address you used to sign up for SecondSlide) and your

password and click GO. If you haven’t signed up for SecondSlide yet, click Sign Up and follow the instructions on the page to join SecondSlide—see SecondSlide help for more information on signing up.

2 – Open Digital Slides in ImageScope When logged into SecondSlide, open the case, project, or course that contains the digital slides you want to show in the conference.

1. The Details page appears. Scroll down the page until you see the Digital slides section.

2. Select the check box or boxes next to the digital slide or slides you want to show in a conference and click View Images to open them in ImageScope.

3 – Create the Conference 1. With your slides open in ImageScope, go to the ImageScope View menu

and select Digital Slide Conferencing. 2. On the Digital Slide Conferencing window, click DSC Server.

3. On the DSC Server window, leave the Server Name and Port boxes set to their default values.

4. Type the name you want to display during the conference in the Screen Name box and click Login.

 5. Click the Create a Conference button and type a name for the conference:

 6. Click OK and the DSC window shows that you have created the

conference and that you are both a participant and the conference leader.

As others join the conference, their names also appear in the DSC window.

4 – Lead the Conference Pan the image in your ImageScope window to move the digital slide to an area of interest. You can use any of the annotation drawing tools (such as the ruler, arrow, free‐hand pen, or rectangle) on the digital slide to show the conference participants the features you want to bring to their attention.

As you move around the digital slide, change magnification, draw annotations, and so on, everyone participating in the conference sees the digital slide as it appears in your ImageScope window.

To change to another digital slide, click its image in the ImageScope filmstrip.

To exit the conference, close the DSC window. The next participant in the list will automatically take over as leader of the conference when you exit.

Joining a Digital Slide Conference 1. Open ImageScope on your workstation.

2. In ImageScope, go to the View menu and select Digital Slide Conferencing. 3. On the Digital Slide Conferencing window, click DSC Server.

4. On the DSC Server window, leave the Server Name and Port boxes set to their default values.

5. Type the name you want to display during the conference in the Screen Name box and click Login.

After logging into the DSC Server, you see the list of conferences that are available to join.

Select the name of the conference you want to join and click the Join Conference button.

You are now part of the conference and see the other participants and the leader of the conference listed in the DSC window. In your main ImageScope window, you see the digital slide that is the subject of the conference. As the conference leader moves around the slide, draws annotations, and changes magnification, you see everything the leader does on your own ImageScope window.

To exit the conference, close the DSC window.
