HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY 2020

This year the RS department are again commemorating Holocaust Memorial day. Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2020 marks 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. The theme of this years memorial is "Stand Together".Don’t be content in your life just to do no wrong, be prepared every day to try and do some good.- Sir Nicholas Winton, who rescued 669 children from Nazi-occupied Europe

On Friday 24th January - there will be a live webcast with Susan Pollack MBE, a Holocaust survivor of Auschwitz-Birkenau.Year 9 students have the opportunity to watch the webcast alongside thousands of other students across the world.Work around the theme "stand together" will also be done in RS lessons.

There will become a time a first hand story live in such a way will not be possible so we hope students find this a valuable experience. Message for Year 9

There will be a year group assembly about doing your DofE on Friday 14th February 2020 @1.10 pm. The assembly is for all year 9 students and will explain what doing a DofE Award is all about.

Message for Year 10 Bronze participants

There will be a meeting on Friday 31st January 2020 during tutor time for those participants who are ready to join the school run expedition. If you are intending on joining the school expedition you have until then to upload your evidence to eDofE and have as much approved as possible. Remember that the assessor report is the essential piece of evidence required to finish a section (photos and other evidence is nice but not essential). Message for Year 11

If you have turned 16, you can register to start your Gold Award. If you plan on using NCS for your residential section of your Gold Award you need to have registered for Gold before doing the residential, otherwise it won’t count. Please see Miss McCombie for more information.

SPORTS NEWS

Congratulations to the WBS Badminton Teams who did so well in the county finals tournaments this week.The U14 girls came 3rd ( with 2 x Yr7s playing against yr9s).The U16 girls came 2nd only losing 1 match against eventual winners Burton Borough.The U16 boys went 1 better coming out as County Champions winning all their matches.The U16 boys team now go forward to represent Shropshire in the Regional tournament on 16th March in BirminghamWell done to all the players.

SPORTS NEWS

Tuesday 21st January- MUGA and Sportshall will not be available to students during morning break as a primary schools Inclusion Festival will be taking place in both areas at that time. Thank you for your cooperation.

Leaders for Inclusion festival on Tuesday 21st January— reminder to come to school in PE kit and put school uniform in your locker.Meet Mrs Smith in Sports hall to set up your station before primary schools arrive at 9.15.Those working on the netball courts make sure you have a waterproof .Immaculate school PE kit please.Any problems see Miss Jones ASAP.

Monday 27th January- Primary Sports hall Athletics competition will be taking place from 13.00 until 15.30 and therefore the Sports hall and upstairs PE areas will not be available to WBS students during lunchtime.Please be aware there will be primary children and their staff moving between the Sports hall and the gym during lunchtime - please be mindful of this and be polite and helpful , especially if they look a little lost.Thank you for your cooperation.
