Welcome to the Spring/Summer edition of Scannappeal’s Events Diary!

There is something for everyone to enjoy and all the funds raised will help provide state of the art medical equipment for Amersham, High Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville hospitals, as well as community health services.

We love to hear from you and if you want to give some of your time and do something brilliant for Scannappeal then there are many ways you can fundraise for us. Whether you’re a baker, a walker, a cyclist, a swimmer, a runner or you fancy taking on a challenge, it is easy to get involved and fundraise for Scannappeal. We will support you with ideas, marketing material and in any way we can to help make your event a success.

Please come and support Scannappeal by joining in at one, or more, of our activities or events. When you book tickets or take part in a fundraising activity you will be helping to make a real difference to the lives of patients living in Buckinghamshire. If you are attending one of our events or planning to hold your own fundraiser, we think you are all amazing! Thank you.

Phoenix Trail Stretcher Challenge Saturday 7 May 2016 • 10.00am - 2.00pm (approx.)

This team building day out for your colleagues, club members and friends raises money for Scannappeal.

Teams of 4 to 8 people need mental and observational skills along a six mile route carrying a traditional stretcher and competing for our Scannappeal Challenge Cup. For more information contact Scannappeal.

Open Garden The Old Work House - Nos 2 & 3

Wednesday 11 May 2016 • 2.00pm - 4.30pm

Mundaydean Lane, Marlow SL7 3BT

Pretty far from the madding crowd of Marlow are two charming cottages and gardens which were once the core area of a Victorian workhouse. There are still some original signs of their dark history despite the closure of this chilling coldharbour back in the 1840s. Happily, the beautiful properties, still standing side by side, with their herbaceous borders, ponds, bug house, mature trees and shrubs, are now extremely desirable homes. Come along and see if you can feel the history too.

Directions: From Marlow Town Centre at The Cross Keys and mini roundabout turn into Dean Street. Then take the third turning on left into Berwick Road. The cottages are 500 yards on the right.

Open Garden – Lord’s WoodFriday 3 June 2016 • 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Frieth Road, Marlow Common SL7 2QS

An exclusive invitation to explore this truly magical and very surprising garden. The art world’s Messum family have spent 40 years creating 2.5 acres of beautifully cultivated gardens on their 40 acre estate. Whether you are in the herb garden or beside the rose border, in the dahlia garden or in the wild meadow filled with June orchids, you will see, crouching, peeping out, or towering above the foliage, stunning works of art which make this garden unique. Guests also have an exclusive opportunity to visit The Studio at Lord’s Wood, which houses some of the Messum’s artwork. Music will be provided by Allsorts.

Directions: At the top of Marlow High Street take Henley Road, but turn right at Platts Garage up Oxford Road/Chalkpit Lane. Continue on this road ascending a hill, high banks on both sides, for 1.5 miles. Pass Royal Oak Pub on left. Go past a turning to Bovingdon Green and another to Marlow common. 100 yards from that last turning, opposite a sign saying Valley View Stables, turn left down the bridlepath towards Lord’s Wood. Pass the first white gate and park on the verge.

Parking: Ample space on the owners verges.

Summer Charity Golf DayWednesday 8 June 2016

12 noon for a light lunch, first 4 simultaneous tee offs at 1.00pm

A hugely popular and very special golf day (Stableford competition) with good company, good food, good fun and a lot of opportunities to raise money for Scannappeal! The price includes green fees, light lunches, generous goody bags for each player, a silver service dinner, comedian, prize giving and a very exciting auction. It’s a top day out for entertaining clients or friends, or just for playing golf on arguably one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world.

Open Garden – Garden CottageSaturday 11 June 2016 • 2.00pm – 5.00pmCherry Tree Lane, Lee Common HP16 9LB

The Usborne family have created a beautiful bloom filled garden with many treasures. Refreshments will be served from the large alpine chalet, which offers a good vantage point for most of the garden. Just round a corner you step back in time as you gaze upon an old Romany caravan and imagine the lives of those whose cosy home it once was. Music will be provided by The Germains Male Voice Choir.Directions: Take the B485 (Frith Hill) towards Chesham. After 200 yards turn sharp left towards South Heath. Follow this road through South Heath and Ballinger, down the hill and up other side. Cherry Tree Lane is first road on the left. Garden Cottage is at the very end of the lane. Parking: is in a field on the left hand side just before Garden Cottage.

Open Garden – Burrow FarmSaturday 18 June 2016 • 2.00pm – 5.00pm

Hambleden, Henley on Thames RG9 6LT

This fantastic Tudor home, extended in Elizabethan times, boasts glorious views over pasture and woodland, making Burrow Farm and its adjacent cottages (which are not open) really exceptional. The very extensive grounds include cultivated lawns, a formal box parterre, a rose and vegetable garden, cottage gardens, an arboretum with 50 specimens, a ha-ha, a 300ft well and many other features, including an atmospheric and majestic 15th century barn where refreshments will be served. The Palmer family do hope you will enjoy your afternoon with them. Musical entertainment will be provided by Notorious.Directions: from the A4155 between Henley and Marlow, turn onto Skirmett Road at Mill End. After 300 yards, turn right onto Rotten Row. After half a mile, Burrow Farm entrance is on the right. Parking: There is ample field parking as directed by Scannappeal volunteers.

NB – to avoid congestion in the lanes, we suggest arrival between 1.45pm and 3.30pm, and ideally, no departures before 3.35pm. Limited disabled access.

Summertime Swing with the BBO (Bucks, Berks & Oxon) Big Band

Sunday 19 June 2016 • Concert 6.30pm-9.00pm Gates open from 5pm for picnic in the grounds

Amersham Cricket Club, Missenden Road, Shardeloes HP7 0RL

Bring a picnic to enjoy in the picturesque grounds of Amersham Cricket Club, overlooked by stunning Shardeloes before listening to a variety of classic swing, jazz and big band music from the very popular BBO Big Band. The concert will be seated at tables under the cover of a comfortable marquee.

Come and enjoy a peaceful wonder around Sue Hewson’s lovely garden that has evolved over the past three decades. This lovingly created garden includes herbaceous borders with many traditional perennials, dry stone walled raised beds, a rustic pergola and many other features.Directions: On the Wycombe Road toward Prestwood pass Hildreths Garden Centre on the right, after approx. half a mile take the left hand fork into Clarendon Road.Parking: in adjacent side roads with courtesy to local residents.

Open Garden – One Day Farm Wednesday 29 June 2016 • 2.30pm – 5.00pm

Blackwell Hall Lane, Ley Hill, Chesham HP5 1UN

Liz & Rick Holroyd would like to welcome you to their gardens. Originally named “Meadhams Farm”, previous owners – with a long standing desire to own the property - changed its name when their dream came true! Visit the wonderful gardens surrounding this delightful 15th century farmhouse. The roses will be magnificent as will the beautifully kept lawns, the kitchen garden, natural pond and surrounding woodland and meadow walks. For added interest, there will be a handful of classic cars parked on the lawns for you to view too. Musical entertainment will be provided by Allsorts.Directions: Pass Chesham Sainsbury’s on the right, keep in outside lane, at roundabout take 3rd exit up White Hill past Chesham High School. 3rd exit at mini roundabout to Botley and Ley Hill. Pass Botley Stores and on to Ley Hill past the school and after sharp left bend take first of two right turns, Blackwell Hall Lane, which runs immediately in front of two pubs. After 250yds continue through S bend and after 30yds take drive on right. One Day Farm is signed.Parking: in nearby field, follow instructions from Scannappeal volunteers.

Open Garden – The South PavilionThursday 7 July 2016 • 2.00pm – 5.00pm

The South Pavilion,Wotton Underwood, Aylesbury HP18 0SBHistorically part of the Wotten House grounds which were designed by Capabiity Brown, the gardens at The South Pavilion have been extended and imaginatively renovated since the property became Tony & Cherie Blair’s family’s country home some 8 years ago. Divided into many themed “rooms” by impressive hedges and walls, the gardens include a formal Victorian garden, a modern sculpture garden, a seasonal vegetable area, a new planted woodland walk, a breath taking wildflower meadow, plus extensive lawns too. Refreshments will be served from the sports and leisure area. Wonderful music will be played by St Mary’s Brass.TICKET ONLY EVENT. All tickets to be booked in advance. To gain admittance on the day, your name will need to be on our list. You will also need photo identification with you. Photography on any device is not permitted in the gardens of The South Pavilion.Directions: Will be issued with tickets.

Open Garden – Tyringham HallWednesday 13 July 2016 • 2.00pm – 4.30pm

Tyringham Hall, Cuddington HP18 0APThe Tyringham family owned the Hall from its construction in 1609 right up until 1968 when the current owner, Sherry Scott, bought it. Sherry’s care and dedication with constant planting throughout almost half a century, have created a strikingly colourful garden that also boasts unrestricted views of the Buckinghamshire rolling hills. This is a garden to relish! Part of the house will be open with access through the front door.Directions: Cuddington is signposted off the B418. Continue across the cross roads down Upper Church Street. Pass the local shops. Tyringham Hall is just past the church on a right hand bend.Parking: In the cricket car park at the end of Bernard Close, 600 metres walk.Disabled parking in Tibby’s Lane to the right of the Hall.

Set yourself a challenge…The Henley Swim

This series of swimming events is held over the summer months on the Henley Royal Regatta course, in one of the most famous and beautiful stretches of open water. If you are up for an endurance swim, after some family friendly water activity or up to a time challenge then why not consider taking part one of the following events while rasing money for Scannappeal.

The Henley ClassicSunday 26 June 2016

The Henley Classic is a 2.1 km endurance upstream event held over the Henley Royal Regatta course. Its a celebration of summer and provides a unique opportunity to swim in this stretch of water at dawn.

The Henley MileSunday 10 July 2016

The Henley Mile is a straight line downstream family swimming event. It features a number of distance options for all ages and abilities including mile, half mile and 200m.

Club to PubSaturday 23 July 2016

A summer 1.5km evening swim taking place in the heart of Henley. Starting from Henley Rowing Club, and finishing at the Historic Angel on the Bridge. The swim’s challenge is to complete the course within the hour and before the chiming of the clock tower bells.

Scanna SkydiveSaturday 16 July 2016 • Hinton Skydiving Centre, Brackley, Northamptonshire

Registration fee: £50

If you’re up for a thrilling challenge then our Scannappeal Skydive could be just what you’re looking for. This sponsored 10,000 feet tandem freefall takes place at Brackley Airfield (15 miles north of Oxford). It only requires 30 minutes of training before you then jump strapped to your instructor! The qualified tandem instructor does all of the hard work for you, allowing you to enjoy the exhilarating feeling of flying through the clouds from over 10,000 feet at up to 120 mph! It is a truly unforgettable experience. All we ask is that you raise £395 in sponsorship money in order for you to jump for free and in turn we will receive an average donation of £140.

Prudential Ride London 100Sunday 31 July 2016

Are you a cycling enthusiast looking for your next challenge? Is 2016 the year that you are getting on your bike? The the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 might be the event for you. Starting in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the 100 mile route on closed roads through the capital then continues into Surrey’s stunning countryside and finishes on The Mall in central London. With leg-testing climbs and a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists at the London 2012 Olympics, it’s a truly spectacular event for all involved.
