Over the past 30 years, we’ve seen a technology transformation across consumer and industrial markets. We are entering the fourth industrial revolution where everything’s connected, but the energy sector needs to catch up.

So what exciting new technologies do we need to develop? What innovations can we adapt and adopt from other industries? How do we make the energy sector thrive in the 21st century and beyond?

The challenge

The UK Government has set a target of ‘net-zero’ greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. We now need to accelerate the transition to make the UK continental shelf a net-zero carbon basin as well as ensuring we maximise economic recovery for future energy security.

New technology is a fundamental part of this, but technology start-ups face unprecedented odds to succeed, particularly those trying to break into the energy sector, with a failure rate of around 90%.

The Oil & Gas Technology Centre TechX Pioneer programme aims to change that.

Our challenge is to reimagine the energy sector and create a more sustainable future.

TechX provides access to unparalleled funding with up to £100,000 available for each Pioneer. There is no equity taken or pay back required – and all intellectual property is retained by the technology developer. We are connecting major investors to support commercialisation and signposting market entry routes for SMEs with successful technology in other industries.

We provide access to innovative, forward-thinking partner organisations that are keen to support a new generation of innovative technology entrepreneurs. These are major players who can provide unrivalled access to rapid field trialling and cutting-edge test facilities. Field trials
