Reminder: Mass Time Changes

During the Spring, the parish did a survey and Fr. Jim announced a new Mass schedule. As a re-sponse to many requests, some of the Mass times will change the weekend after Labor Day. Beginning Saturday, September 10, the Vigil will be at 4:30PM. The Masses on Sunday morning will remain the same, but a 5:30PM Mass will be added on Sunday evenings beginning that week-end. We are also adding a 12:15PM Mass on Holydays beginning with the Feast of the As-sumption on August 15. Since the Feast is be-fore Labor Day, the evening Mass will still be at 5:30PM after Labor Day, future Holyday evening Masses will be celebrated at 7:00PM instead.

Wooden Benches in the Front of the Church

A kind parishioner has offered to rehab the bench-es and took them to Hershey’s Mill to work on them in their wood shop. We are grateful and look forward to seeing the transformation! Thank you Mike!

Grounds Work near the School Field

The tree work being performed near the School Fields has been completed. There were large, rotted limbs which posed a safety issue for the children. The landscaping is still a work in pro-gress, which we hope will be completed by the end of the month.

Sacraments For You, Your Spouse, or Your Children

Were you or your spouse never confirmed? Has your child above the age of 9, never been Bap-tized? Do you have a child over the age of 12, who never received Holy Communion or Confirmation? Do you have a non-Catholic spouse that might be open to considering becoming Catholic? If you an-swered “yes” to any of these questions, then RCIA might be the right fit for you! RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process of preparing adults and children over the age of 10, for the Sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. To join the Fall RCIA group, or for any other inquiries, please contact: Daniel Hoover at: [email protected].

Young Adults: Your Vote Counts Wednesday, July 13, 2016, 7:30PM

Are you a young adult in your 20s or 30s? If so, join the Catholic Young Adults of Chester County (CYACC) this Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 7:30PM at Saints Peter and Paul Parish in West Ches-ter. Fr. Tom Whittingham, from St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Chester, will provide us with an informed manner in voting consistent with Catholic moral teaching and fundamental human rights. 11 Cents: Why The Devil Wants Us Busy

I was at the gas station the other day, and at the

cash register they were selling gum with caffeine

in it. Why do we need caffeine in our gum? It has

been said that Americans spent 13.5 billion dollars

on energy drinks in 2015! America, this is ridicu-

lous, just take a nap already! Instead of promoting

healthy rest and relaxation we spend money to

trick our bodies and minds into thinking they’re not

tired.

As Americans we pride ourselves on our work eth-

ic. That is great, but what happens when we wear

ourselves too thin? When our tanks are empty it

affects many aspects of our lives. When we are

exhausted it is much more difficult to pray, harder

to focus, sense God’s presence, or feel consoled

in prayer.

It is not only our prayer life that suffers when we

are exhausted. It can hurt our relationships too.

When we are tired, we are much more likely to be

impatient with our spouse, children, or others. We

can also become more easily agitated or quick-

tempered with others, and we are more suscepti-

ble to temptation and sin when we are fatigued.

These are all bad fruits of not getting enough rest

and rejuvenation.

On top of all of this, there are thousands of stud-

ies about how stress is bad for our bodies. If we

do not get enough sleep, then we do not enter into

an especially deep sleep in which a chemical pro-

cess occurs that cleans the plaque in our brain.

When that plaque builds up it can lead to many

illnesses and diseases.

God wants us in the present moment in Commun-

ion with Him. Evil wants us worrying about the fu-

ture, which we cannot control, or the past, which

we cannot change.

Staying busy often gives us a sense of control but

it is much better to work hard while always trusting

more in God’s providence than our own efforts.

As Psalm 127 says, “Unless the Lord builds the

house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the

Lord guards the city, the guard keeps watch in

vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late

to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he

gives sleep to his beloved.”

Get some rest, America!

Worship Ministries

Local News

Liturgy Corner Hi folks! I hope that of you are getting a chance to relax and enjoy some down time during the sum-mer months. I wanted to share a few thoughts about how privileged I continue to feel by being able to serve this Parish as Worship Director. I was so pleased to hear such glowing and cautiously surprised compliments from the priests who helped us out while Fr. Jim was away! Many of them com-mented on the high level of participation here and how well and enthusiastically you all sang! Thank you everyone for your obvious and impactful in-volvement in our Worship here at Saints Peter and Paul Parish! Okay, now that I’ve softened you all up, I’d like to draw attention to a couple of areas I could definitely use some help. As you are probably aware, our still fairly new Au-dio/Visual Ministry has become an important part of our liturgies and a big reason our assembly is able to participate so well at Mass. However, it remains that the Liturgical Ministry has a low participation rate. To some extent this is understandable as peo-ple are probably less likely to associate the A/V Ministry with the Mass than say, Lectors or Altar Servers. This function should be seem as being as vital to our parishioners as some of the more tradi-tional ones. This might take a slight redefinition and expansion of how we think about sharing our gifts, talents, and abilities with one another in our cele-bration of the Mass together and the many different ways in which we are called to serve. Call me cra-zy, but I’ve seen a similarity here in the way in which Jesus challenges us to redefine who we call our neighbor in today’s Gospel, expanding that group of people whom we are called to love. If you have any comfort level at all with operating a com-puter, please consider helping us out, in order to help your neighbors or other parishioners. It would be great to grow this ministry team. Lastly and unbelievably, Fall seems almost on our

doorstep now and as you may know the Parish is

adding a 5:30PM Sunday evening Mass to our

schedule. The Worship Department will be looking

for folks to volunteer in Ministry at this Mass. If you

think the time of this new liturgy might fit your

schedule and you have served or are interested in

serving as an Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister,

Lector, Usher, Greeter or Audio/Visual volunteer

please contact the Worship Department.

Harvest of Peace

A world that desperately needs but obviously lacks peace. Sound familiar? This was also the world into which Jesus sent his disciples not to condemn, to curse against corruption and bad morals or to threaten divine punishment, but to announce the peace that everyone, many unconsciously, are seeking. Considering the reali-ty we live in, it really takes a great faith to imagine that it is possible to build a world where peace reigns. Yet this is the mission entrusted to the disciples. Christians have tried to build peace, but not always with the means sug-gested by Jesus who wanted them to be “lambs among wolves.” We have not always walked - poor, meek, and defenseless - alongside people in need of peace. In or-der to emulate those who have – St. Francis of Assisi, Blessed Theresa of Calcutta, St. Damien of Molokai – as our current Pontiff Pope Francis constantly encourages us to do, let us commit firmly to the belief that we who believe in peace will see the great works of the Lord.
