Dear Parishioners,
I wish to express my thanks to those of you who have already reached out to
welcome me as the new pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Parish. It is indeed an
honor to be asked by the Bishop to take on this new responsibility. It is also an
honor to succeed Father Friedrichs who has done such a wonderful job over the last nine years. We offer him our prayers for strength and good health as he moves on
to a more relaxed schedule. We also want him to know that he is always welcome
as a member of St. Catherine’s Parish Community.
There is no doubt that things will be different as we go forward. Because of
dwindling numbers of active priests in the diocese you will now be sharing a pastor
with St. Francis of Assisi Parish. It will mean an adjustment in the way we all do
parish. I may not be as readily available in the office as you have been accustomed
to in the past. It may mean being willing to leave messages which I usually try to
return at my earliest opportunity. It may mean that both parishes will need to
cooperate in certain programs and activities. It will certainly mean that familiar
schedules and routines will change for all of you and for me.
All I can do is to assure you that I will do my best to be available and be of
service while I have to recognize that I can’t be in two places at once. With the
help of all we can keep both parishes strong and lively places where people can
encounter the Living Lord and be leaven in a community that desperately needs the
presence of God.

THE SPIRITUAL EXERCISES OF ST. IGNATIUS IN EVERYDAY LIFE will be offered here, at St. Catherine’s Church, beginning Thursday, September 18th at 7:00pm in the church. The Exercises grew out of St. Ignatius Loyola’s personal experience as a man seeking to grow in union with God and to discern God’s will for his life. The Exercises are profound and prolonged meditation
on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Their purpose is to bring about a deep conversion to Jesus and willingness to labor with Him for the kingdom.
