My Dear Parishioners,

Today is one of those bittersweet moments in the life of a parish, and the priest who shares his ministry with them. Of course I am referring to this Monday’s departure of Fr. Matt Tralies for his new assignment as an Administrator, which will

a year from now, become Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church, in Springfield, Delaware County. It is “bitter” for us to lose such a familiar presence of someone who in his own special way, led so many of us closer to Christ and His Church by his simplicity, approachability, humor and down to earth faith. On the other hand, we have to try to understand that despite his loss, there is a “sweetness” for him in assuming now a role to which most priests aspire, and that is to be a pastor and spiritual father to his own flock. And for this, we congratulate Fr. Tralies and pray for him. You know we will find occasions to have him back, so that we can hear his stories about this next adventure in his life. The collage of pictures he provided for the front cover is a reminder of what the life of a good priest consists. A priest must be rooted in a deep love of Jesus, his parish, his family, and his friends. Fr. Tralies has that, and that is what makes him such a great priest. It is hard for us to go back to having just two priests here at St. Bede, which was the situation only a few years ago. Fr. O’Donald and I will be calling upon priests who we know, that may be available to assist us. This summer for example, Fr. David Friel, who is on summer break from his studies at Catholic University in Washington, will be celebrating some Sunday Masses, and possibly some weekday Masses. Let us pray and see who God provides. The reduction in the number of priests in the Archdiocese has begun to affect even St. Bede’s. Finally, this Tuesday is the day when I enter Abington Hospital for the oral surgery I need for the removal of a benign but aggressive cyst. My surgeon has advised me to prepare for at least two weeks of total inactivity for recovery. That will be difficult for me, and I am saddened by the extra burden it places on Fr. O’Donald. I appreciate his assistance and your prayers for a successful operation and recovery.

May God Bless You,

A Message From Your Pastor

Scripture Readings Solemnity of the Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ (Corpus Chris) June 23, 2019 Genesis 14: 18-20 Psalm 110: 1-4 1 Corinthians 11: 23-26 Luke 9: 11B-17 Jesus’ words “This is My Body” and “This cup is the new covenant in My Blood” were only part of His table blessing. He also said, twice, “Do this in remembrance of Me.” Like the 5,000 hungry souls in the Gospel, we are fed by our Lord, but this is food that lasts and changes us. It is intended to be shared the way that Melchizedek shared bread and wine with Abram. Let us listen now for God’s voice, urging us to share our lives as Jesus did.

We are united in prayer with their families and with one another as we and all the departed await our rising with the Lord.

2019 Padre Pio Festival / Picnic Sponsors We have begun to put together the plans for the 2019 Padre Pio Festival / Parish Picnic. Corporate sponsorship in 2018 was an integral part in helping to defray expenses and contributed to the overall success of the weekend. We also realized that corpo-rate donations don’t just happen, they must be planned and budgeted by the donors. To that end we are now approaching corporations in our area with our sponsorship information to allow them the necessary time to consider our request. If you work for or know of a company in our area that you feel might be interested in becoming a sponsor, please contact us so we can present them with the Sponsorship Packet that explains the sponsorship programs for 2019. Please feel free to contact Jim Fitzgerald at (215) 355-6096 ( [email protected]) or Barb Rogowski at (215) 357-5720 ( [email protected]).

Our New Mosaic Is Here! Installing an unwieldy and delicate 650 lb. mosaic complete with thousands of breakable les isn’t an easy thing, but contractor John Eccleston and parishioner Bob Scanlan and their assistants were certainly up to the task! Aer placing the mosaic on a scaold, workers rst put a special epoxy adhesive on the back, then carefully lied it into the opening. It t perfectly! The mosaic, which depicts the Pentecost, is a wonderful addion to our Bell Tower and the front of our church.

Collection for Peter’s Pence Next Week Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Soon our diocese will take up the Peter's Pence Collection. Our participation supports t h e charitable work of Pope Francis as he reaches out to those who are marginalized and suffering around the g lobe . This year the Peter's Pence Collection will be taken at all Masses on the weekend of June 23, 2019. Let us join with our brothers and sisters in faith from around the globe to help Pope Francis reach the marginalized. Please prayerfully consider how you can best support t h e collection this year.

Gratefully and with best wishes in Jesus Christ ,

WASHINGTON—Yesterday, the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates voted by a 2 to 1 margin to affirm its longstanding opposition to physician-assisted suicide. Following the vote, Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann of Kansas City, Kansas, Chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Pro-Life Activities has issued the following statement: “We strongly applaud today’s action by the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates to reaffirm its policy against physician-assisted suicide. The practice and promotion of assisted suicide poses grave consequences for our entire society but particularly for persons living with illness, disabilities, or socioeconomic disad-vantages. The AMA was right to reaffirm its longstanding view that physician-assisted suicide is fundamentally incompat-ible with the physician’s role as healer.”

Hello Everyone!!!

This Sunday the youth and chaperone’s that are going to the Steubenville Youth Conference are receiving a Blessing at the 11am Mass. We have 22 youth going to Steubenville this year!! It is going to be a fantastic and grace-filled event. I will share photos upon our return. A HUGE Thank you to those who gave donations and sponsored students to go. We ask that you PLEASE keep us in your prayers— now, leading up to the conference and especially during the weekend that we are away (July 19-21) . Thank you all for your support and prayers!!! This week I am giving part of my column to a youth in our program, Sophia Hoffman, who is writing about her experience at our Triple T youth gatherings. Triple T meets every Thurs-day during the school year from 6-7:30pm. High School Youth gather for dinner and discuss topics that affect their lives.

God Bless! Maritza

Learn More About Triple T! Hi Everyone!

I have decided to write a segment for the bulletin about Triple T. Now I know many of the teenagers in the parish may think that Triple T is boring, but I am here to tell you its really not. I’ve been home schooled for most of my life, so I haven't had much chance of making friends. Currently I am a sopho-more at Queen of Heaven Academy (which is an online Catho-lic cyber school). While I do get to meet other kids in my online classes there is never a real face to face friendship be-tween me and the other kids. And so when my mom found out about the Triple T, I was skeptical at first because I didn’t know if it was going to be dull or not. But then I gave it a shot and found out what a great time it was! Its a really awesome envi-ronment to be in because you can relax without having to stress over other things (school, work, etc.). And everyone is always so kind and considerate, and it gives you a place to go unwind, and connect with fellow Catholic teens. A seminarian comes each week to spend time with us and it is really nice to see life from their prospective. Everyone always leaves with a smile on there face and a good laugh (and the food is good too). I’ve been going to the Triple T’s since last summer and let me tell you, I love it, going to the Triple T’s helped me make so many new friends, so now I am not lonely anymore. So I am encour-aging some of my fellow St. Bede’s teens to come to the Triple T’s, I am always there and it would be so nice to get to talk to some of the other teenagers in this Catholic community.

Sincerely, Sophia J. Hoffman
