President Handover

President’s Night Special

This year’s Presidents Nights was held at Roselyn Court, where more

than 100 Rotarians, partners and guests enjoyed a great night of

fun. The highlight was the sensational skit set in the office

WingsAway Travel, 3AW and Holyrood Avenue! A fabulous Barber

Quartet (Peter Baker, Steve Roe, Richard Lawrence and Boris Struk)

sung classics such as Leaving on a Jet Plane, ‘Ulverstone’ to the

tune of Galvestone, a Gilligans Island inspired masterpiece which

‘really was a thriller’ and everyone’s favourite, I Still Call Holyrood

Home. Eileen Ray and Steve Chandler did a marvellous job as

Anne and Barry, Gaye Cariss was ‘Surely’ Kukk, Boris Struk had the

dulcet tones of Denis Walter and who could forget Simon Cookson

as the ‘shirtless’ Roger Leask. Guests were treated with the surprise

appearance of the Sydney Opera House plaque (there’s a lesson

for all ‘re-gifters’ there!) and a bikini clad Miss Davenport.

Royce Abbey Award

Simon Cookson was honored

with a Royce Abbey Award

for his tireless efforts and

passion for Rotary, in

particular the international

projects such as Burma.

Anne talked about Simon’s

‘gregarious outlook and

earnest work ethic’. Simon

was ‘shocked’ and said ‘I

suppose I’ve gotta stay here

now’, and we certainly hope

he does! Congratulations to

Simon on this well deserved

award.

The purpose of the Royce Abbey Awards is to encourage members who are relatively new to Rotary, to further develop and benefit from using the talents they have demonstrated, in furthering the object of Rotary at Club, District and International level.

The Rotarian would be recognised in his or her early days of membership, as a willing participant in club

activities.

More than 120 Royce Abbey Awards have been bestowed on Rotarians both domestically and internationally.

President Anne Rogers presents a Royce

Abbey Award to Simon Cookson during

President’s Night.

Paul Harris Sapphire

Recognition

Judith Anderson was recognized

with a Rotary Foundation Paul

Harris Recognition. Judith’s

recognition is a good reminder of

the sacrifices that all Rotary

partners have to make to support

their Rotarian spouse. Anne told us

that Tim’s membership turned out

to be a 2-for-1 deal with the

wonderful contribution made by

Judith over the years, and Judith

responded by saying it is really a 3-

for-1 deal with their son Banjo also

actively involved in assisting with

rotary projects.

Judith’s community service, always

hidden in the background, has for

years seen her ducking for cover from

any attention. Apart from her work

within the school community, this has

extended to work as an Honorary

Probation Officer. She works at many

Rotary evens where she is

affectionately known as the ‘Sausage

Queen’ – for reasons entirely BBQ

related. She has tirelessly supported

Tim over the 13 years he has lived out

his Rotary dream, and has willingly

sacrificed much of her family life as a

consequence. She has attended the

Essendon Rotary International Projects

in the Phillipines and the Union of

Myanmar, and continues to actively

involve herself in Rotary life, sharing

the passion of helping others have

greater opportunities in life.

Incoming District Governor

Iven Mackay, with his wife Marilyn

A Message from Outgoing

District Governor, Colin Muir

As I prepare for the District Governor’s handover this coming

Sunday I am reminded of what a wonderful year this has

been for the District, our Clubs but especially for Pauline and

myself.

It has been an honour and a privilege to serve our great

organisation, Rotary International, as the District Governor of

the biggest and best District in Australia.

This District once again has achieved outstanding results in all

Avenues of Service, Foundation and in the management and

administration of our organisation.

We have increased our members, improved the image of

Rotary and Rotarians in our community. We have met the

goals set by our world President John Kenny when asked us

for support of Water and Sanitation, Health and Hunger and

Literacy - It certainly has been a great year.

To my Board of Directors and the members of District

Leadership Team, thank you for all your efforts in providing

outstanding support to our clubs and also providing the

necessary assistance and guidance to our committees

throughout the year.

To the Presidents, the Clan of 2009-10, I thank you for your

leadership and the stewardship of your Clubs over the last 12

months. You can look back with pride at the achievements of

your club in your Presidential year. It has been a wonderful

experience getting to know you all personally.

To the Rotarians, Partners and Families of District 9800 a very

big thanks for your work throughout 2009-10, without you we

could never achieve our aim of Doing Good In the World.

Without committed members there would be no future.

To the incoming Leadership Team and the Club Officers of

the 70 clubs in our District congratulations and welcome. Your

commitment to Building Communities and Bridging

Continents is appreciated.

Now as the 2009-10 year ends and we prepare to hand over

to the incoming team could I once again remind you all that

no matter what happens:

The Future of Rotary Will Remain In Your Hands.

Colin Muir District Governor

Club Photo A Message from Maurice

HI ALL. JUST AN UPDATE ON THE CLUB PHOTO. WHEN WE SPOKE TO

"SCHOOLPIX" THE PEOPLE WHO TOOK THE CLUB PHOTO, THE QUOTE

THEY GAVE US INCLUDED 15 COPIES OF THE PHOTO. WE COULD HAVE

ORDERED MORE COPIES AT THE TIME BUT I DID NOT BECAUSE I

WANTED TO SEE THE QUALITY OF THE FINAL PRODUCT BEFORE

UP TO DATE HAVE BEEN OF GOOD QUALITY AND SOME OF THE

MEMBERS HAVE PURCHASED THEM.

I HAVE ORDERED ANOTHER 55 PHOTOS WHICH WILL BE DELIVERED

TO US IN 3 TO 4 WEEKS. AS SOON AS I HAVE RECEIVED THOSE

PHOTOS I WILL NOTIFY ALL MEMBERS TO ASK IF THEY WANT TO

PURCHASE A COPY.

I WILL KEEP IN TOUCH, MAURICE MOLLICA.
